I think the point is that those stigmas shouldn’t exist. You’re not better than someone because you have a home or because you’re white, male, straight, etc. You’re not going to catch the disease of homelessness by looking at them (which is how most people act). It’s not trying to “prove” something, it’s calling attention to an issue that people don’t normally bother to think about. Everyone deserves respect and attention.

people not acknowledging bums is not a societal problem, its just life. life fuckin sucks. for a crazy old guy who has no family left to take care of him, and thus is forced onto the streets, life is hard

i give money to homeless people because that could’ve been my parents living on the streets when they first came to canada. if it werent for the golden hearts of certain people, my parents could not have survived in canada.

And you don’t have to give them money. When someone asks for change, just try having a conversation with them if you have the time. You’ll realize most of them are decent/kind people. Not being treated like a pariah for a couple minutes probably means more than a loonie anyway.

there was the one time, I did have cash cuz Jamie would pay his rent in cash a few years ago. so I would always have crazy amounts of change. one day I grabbed all of it from my desk like $18 in loonies and quarters and shit. and then I saw a homeless guy holding out an empty styrofoam container and I walked right by him. then I was like “no, you know what? I’ll give him all of this.” so I grabbed all of the change out of my pocket and dropped it in his container at once.
either the container or him wasn’t ready for all the weight of that many coins and everything got dumped on the sidewalk right in the middle of DT pedestrian rush hour. I hastily apologized and then left. so in the end, I felt shitty about it instead of good
