C.Viper changes/alterations

A good focus attack?

I’ve done this plenty, it’s pretty easy really. Just have to connect EX TK as an anti-air, which never happens.

Well, tbh it’s a matter of a PoV. For instance, to go into your perspective here, you say Brawl is a mash fest, when in fact high level play is very precise. (don’t get me wrong, I think brawl is a PoS. Melee is where it was at :wgrin: ) As far as Viper’s down/up jump cancel input goes though it is just bad design imo. It feels like just as much a bug to perform as kara throwing (total garbage here) And it’s really quite hard to perform without a quality stick. With a pad I would say it’s nigh unlearnable, even with a lower quality stick it can be quite challenging. I wasn’t able to get the timing on it down until I got a TE fightstick. For a game that capcom feels is designed to bring people back to the 2D genre, having a character that is only impressive in the hands of people with tweaker hand speed or quality controllers is just poor design or shortsidedness. Especially when jump canceling is not properly explained in game. “Yes this is our new character C.Viper. She’s a very complex character to learn and you will probably have to consult user operated forums on the internet to figure out why some people can link moves and you cannot.”

Don’t get me wrong, I <3 C.Viper big time, but I think it’s lame how hard you have to work to do stuff that is comparable to what others can do for much less work.

And yes, I agree with the model comments. Her bust and pelvis look super odd.

i use pad and shes difficult but not impossible
i think any true viper player are proud of what they learned and what they’ve acomplished, aside from some priority issues she has, i dont really have much complaints. True viper users are proud of how unique she is and embraces her moveset and potentials

my god, stop complaining about High jumping it’s everywhere GG, BB, MVC etc. and in SF4 with viper you dont’ even have to do down up. If i got payed everytime if found a highjump shortcut i’d be rich. And it’s not hard on pad or stick, you don’t require a stick to play viper, you can play viper on pad she isn’t that difficult if you take a few minutes to look at how to do some stuff it would make it so much simpler for you. and if your complaining about Viper being hard as a character, I wonder what you would do with an actual difficult character.

I don’t see the problem. There are 24 “usable” characters, we can’t have just one that’s mad difficult to use?

alt = hair down please. that is all.

If sagat whiffs his ultra, he doesnt do the whole thing. Why shouldnt Viper be able to do the same? Or at least if you get hit with the first hit and miss the rest, the other person cant just get right up, walk up to you, recite the pledge of allegiance, cook a turkey dinner, then punish you however they see fit. Its like this with Chun’s ultra. You get hit with the first hit but it doesnt fully connect by the time you get up shes already done and ready to block.

i think u dudes who main mid to low characters deserve to hav ur main improved. I hope ssfiv gives us more colourfull and varried tournaments and online play. She wont become the next sagat so im all for her improving

Yes. Please.

Do you really need him to do the second TU in order to punish him?

would it be too op to let her ex tk travel through fireballs?

IMO no it wouldn’t, it’s virtually useless as it is, it would make perfect sense to go through fireballs

Make her burning kick an overhead…=p

I strongly disagree with you guys, IMO, I don’t think EX Knuckle should go through projectiles.

Eh, yeah, ex tk going through fireballs would be overpowered because of crumple stun imho. Viper already has enough tools to deal with projectiles anyway.

^ I agree with what your saying, but the move is useless…

Well, it kinda has a few uses, lol, but yeah, on the whole, it’s not particularly that great a move. But I still disagree with Alcheymyst and co. about it being able to go through projectiles for pretty much the same reasons Lost Fragment posted. Whilst that would be great, everyone would be crying if EX TK did that, lol.

opps, yh that is kinda overpowered when i think about the crumple state, it’s just that for me i almost never use the move, i only use it against akuma and dhalsim to close distance without jumping, or a random moment to score ultra, but lets be honest it’s startup is wack!

Honestly, Viper is fine, and i think the most true-to-form char they’ve come out with. She was designed as a glass cannon, and that’s exactly what she is. Any time you get beat, you beat yourself. You mistimed something, you got too reckless, etc. She has tools to deal with everything, you just can’t be daft and still be successful like some of the other cast. Honestly, i was done with SFIV until i played Viper, and fell in love with the play style. In a wonky, slow engine (compared to the marvel/GG i’m used to) it’s nice to have someone with some speed.

And yes, “fixing” moves would be nice, but she doesn’t need it. As far as her getting owned on wakeup, that’s the nature of the character. She’s not designed to be a defensive fighter, more of a “get your opponent to twitch, and punish the shit out of it” fighter. If you get thrown out of HP knuckle on wakeup, you lost the mindgame. If you get jab mashed out of EX Seismo, you don’t know the matchup and forgot you can’t be point blank with the character. Every situation you lose, it’s because you either lost a mindgame, or didn’t adapt to your character’s strength/shortcoming. It’s the same in every fighter, (yes, i assume even smash, though i haven’t actually played it for anything other than the novelty of shooting someone with a big-ass Samus-ball). Hell, i’m sure that even applies to Clay Fighter 64, or the travesty known as KI2.

And i agree, definitely don’t tone down the execution. I like people not playing viper because “she’s too hard”. Personally i like the feeling of accomplishment and knowing the hours of practice i put in a week pays off. And i love the people who come into the Viper thread with their “man, i can do all of <insert character here>'s hardest combos and 1frame links, but i can’t get past Viper’s hard trials, halp meh!!!11!1shiftone” posts. If you don’t like the execution or difficulty of her, fix it at the character select screen. You have 24 other characters who are easier to choose from. Hell, just pick Zangief and Spin-to-Win like the other simpletons who want to put in no work, get wins, and talk about how good they are at SFIV.
