C.Viper changes/alterations

Lol, you play Sagat now?

Yeah…it’s stupid to only play one character in this game. Unless the one charcter you play is like Sagat or Akuma and covers all matchups. C.Viper just fits my play style so that’s why I use her and I like having that element of surprise in tournaments. Unfortunately there’s characters like Gief, Honda and Rufus who just don’t give a fuck. So they’re getting Sagat.

Actually for now I’ll probably still use Viper against Rufus since I personally feel like I can fight the match but Gief and Honda…I just don’t play against enough of em and whenever I encounter them I have to go through this grueling battle just to almost win but lose. I really like the times when I just flat out lose. When I pick Sagat…I don’t. :lol:

Viper is still my main for like 90 percent of the cast. It’s just that extra 10 or so percent that needs to be covered by someone who doesn’t die in 2 hits against characters that can make all the mistakes in the world and still come out on top.

After eating dozens of 3 frame crouch jab > etc. > Ultra by Boxer last night, eating random safe invincible turn punches and losing 1/4 of my life, losing repeatedly after having the lead, and then switching to Abel and then doing MUCH better…

…I totally understand.

Not that Abel is better than Viper…but he sure is easier to use.

BTW, Rufus is ridiculous. He needs a redesign STAT. But, according to the rumors, he can now cancel the last hits of his Ultra and Super, or some nonsense like that. So, I’m not holding my breath that Rufus will be toned down at all…

i use viper a lot. besides her not being able to take a hit, her ultra doesn’t land most of the time in the desired combo or when someone jumps in when i want. the timing on the height is weird sometime, look like it’s gonna get em but then it doesn’t. but then again i always thought her ultra was terrible. the jab thunder knuckle comes out real slow. i’d like it to come out as fast as the med tk. it goes under fireballs thats cool. but sometime when u wanna put it in a combo and u get a little too far it doesn’t combo -sometime- it looks like it should. maybe a little -not too easy- way to do a instant HJBK it’s hard to do to begin with. i miss it sometimes and i have fast hands. i know some ppl don’t have that fast of hands and want to pick her up but can’t. oh well, i hope they make changes to everyone.

so i played in a tourney today and lost because i tried to ultra with viper after a blocked ryu cr. lp , cr. mp, cr. mk into a fireball. i interupted right after the cr mk. the fireball went thru me and the explosion landed their airborne and the 1st hit of the ultra landed EVERYTHING else just missed completely and i land and get killed and lose the match. really CRAP. i think the should fix that. i mean if the explosion lands and the 1st hit lands the rest should land too not have them fall backwards weird and have everything else miss. this can be solved really easy, just have her move the smallest fraction forward on the ultra if it lands so everything else lands too. viper’s ultra is SO inconsistant.

It’s not so inconsistent. What you posted was pretty rare – in fact, that’s the first I’ve heard of it.

Maybe it should hit a little higher on startup. Currently I think it only hits what a seismo would, which can sometimes cause problems but I don’t think it’s a big deal.

after thinking some more about it, what i want for viper is:

-Faster sweep. slowest sweep in the game. really?
-Un-grabbable knuckles. i hate how i can get grabbed out of any TK, including heavy
-Ultra. i dont think it should ever happen when the first punch hits but the kicks dont. ive seen it happen alot and that should be fixed.
-Costumes :rofl:

I cant argue against this,it’s rare but i have lost to this too,it’s like a big misread on max range.
If you dont want to go so far please reduce it,but as i am 100% committed once i execute it,can you 100% commit if it hits?

But i still stand by my earlier arguement that ex tk should be useful in higher lvl play and not just punish boxer and dictator scrubs for bad play.

And everyone here should at least listen when deviljin or kryo and a few others speak on viper as they have been holding viper down for a long time now,and have given us all tons of great info.

Viper and Guile are the only two who can hit me with their ultra, but not finish AND let me get a free punish.

It would be nice if her HP electric punch move worked consistently as an anti-air. Maybe you could have two different ex versions of it 1 being the current dash across screen and the other would be an ex version of her HP electric punch with some invincibility frames

Hey, at first blush I have to say that’s not a terrible idea. I definitely don’t support the idea of her needing any buffs, but this would give her more versatility without really changing too much overall. :clapdos: Perhaps as a way to balance it, the EX anti-air TK would not link to ultra. shrug

but that sj shit is so equipment dependent though. some joysticks are impossible to perform those one inch sj. flame kicks off the ground.

i think better normals is the most important. everything else is fine, better health wouldnt hurt either. maybe make the ultra easier to land also, but i guess the payoff for huge damage is making it so tricky to land.

It took me a lot of trainng mode to get one inch (instant) super/regular jump flame kicks consistent. :lol:

The Ultra already is pretty easy to land; the timing might be a bit trickier than for most but she has a shitload of ways to combo into it.
The only things I’d change are the whiffs of the ultra-kicks when the explosion hits and maybe remove 1 frame from some of the normals. Other than that I’d say she’s perfectly balanced.

So, just to be clear, I don’t play Viper, but yesterday playing against her, I jumped in and when I saw she was doing her ultra I threw a sonic boom right when she’s into her motion where she punches the ground or whatever, I don’t remember exactly. And here’s a big problem (in my opinion anyway), somehow I manage to hit her with it, but she did punch the ground, so there was dust flying up everywhere, none of us could see the characters after that, we both were behind that dust curtain, so I just thought “hey, I’ll try my luck and throw another boom”, which I did, and I won.

The point is, they need to make it so we’re able to see through that big mountain of dust, because I was totally lost when I saw that yesterday.

Do any of you Viper players agree with this? :confused:

Adeste…it’s not that big of a deal. She’s basically in a crouching position ready to get hit when the dust comes out. If you don’t want to deal with the dust just block the Ultra instead of pressing buttons at it. Once you low block the seismo (if you are close enough to have to) and block the fire kicks you have 349 frames to punsih Viper once she fall back down into a crouching position. Pressing buttons at her Ultra right before it hits you is just setting yourself up to get hit. That’s why so many scrubs on Xbox Live get hit by the fire kicks after the Ultra has already whiffed. Crazy people.

That’s part of the excitement…there’s always a brief moment where neither player knows what just happened. I’m pretty sure it was intentional on Capcom’s part.

Regarding her Ultra, I wonder if it would be too much of a buff the make her Ultra connect everywhere it looks like it should connect. In other words, extend the hit boxes behind her a little bit. The flames and seismo impact visually explode out behind her, too. Yet, there is no hit box behind her. The flames just go through the opponent without doing anything, and it looks silly.

Besides making sense visually, it would also help her out on wakeup. But, maybe a bit too much…

I really dont have any issues with the visuals.
The god damn spratic nature of the ultra is a little irritating though,i lost a match vs a dictator that tried to focus my wakeup,i ultra’d and landed the siesmo but wiffed the kicks into a loss.
So relibility would be much appreciated.
