I dunno what you guys are talking about, the advantage on burning kick was pretty serious and definitely an advantageous tool. It wasn’t guaranteed cause the + frames you get off a blocked burning kick were different depending on the situations. There are times you can snap a burning kick so tight and deep(which are the exact type of burning kicks you should pretty much always be shooting for) that you are at an advantage frames wise large enough to counter hit any button an opponent hits with a stand strong, which then leads to c.strong xx tk, and that’s like somewhere around 270 damage. I don’t mind burning kick advantage being decreased, I just hope it doesn’t become legitimately punishable by 3 frame jabs or reversal 3 frame uppercuts.
The biggest flaw I see in the change though is that there is already a universal buff against burning kick spam, and that’s the increased speed of lvl 2 focus attacks. So increasing that speed along with losing +frames on blocked BK’s is a double nerf to the move. I won’t freak out cause I’m still yet to play the game, but I’m not excited about the change by any means.
Also since when is Viper’s. c.mk so revered that people ignore c.strong?!?! C.mk is 7 frames and has a flawed hitbox, while c.strong comes out in 5 frames and stuffs dive kicks. The only real advantage in c.mk in SFIV that I utilized is a small increase in range from c.strong and of course the fact that c.mk hits low.
With a change to c.mp though maybe Viper will be able to c.mp xx ex seismo as a combo, doubt it, but if they changed the move to be better, that’s a possible advantage it’s new properties might hold.
I guess you’re referring to the lowest possible burn kick you can pull off while still being in the air? Yeah I don’t think you’re safe on that, but I don’t agree on it being able to to counter any opponent’s hit afterwards. Balrog has the fastest jab in the game and it seems like at close range, it beats out almost anything. I also believe that E. Honda and Balrog should still be able to punish that with a command throw too.
I don’t think anyone believes the frame advantage after a BK wasn’t useful.
It’s just that it wasn’t as “spammable” as they claim. It took timing and positioning to set-up, it was susceptible to reversals, and FAs allow you to escape them cleanly.
There’s nothing wrong with a move having good frame advantage when set-up properly. BK falls in that category.
And, if they truly want to tone down “spammable” moves, I hope Balrog’s jab, Bison Scissor Kicks, Honda headbutts etc. receive the same treatment. They probably won’t, though.
If burn kick actually did damage outside of the corner I’d see a reason to do something about it. Though people are whining about something that does 100 damage if it hits. ONE HUNDRED DAMAGE. Oh and gives me a techable knockdown.
“We’ve made some adjustments to the moves that she could just spam. For example, her Burning Kick, where even if the opponent blocks Viper is at an advantage. While there are no changes if the move hits or misses, on block we’ve added a few extra frames of recovery.”
to the moveS that she can spam…so aside from bk, theres another move she can spam…tk…
Then they give 1 example of the moves she can spam that they made adjustments to.
Well there’s also the fact that apparently MP knuckle has one more frame of recovery on block. Which means Chun can reverse super it on block now and stuff.
i was doing some testing, i did the lowest trajectory sjc lk bk and hk bk…
a reversal dp beats it all.
The advantage is good enough that ryu can’t jab outta it, and would be thrown.
but these are escapable situations… he can tech as well.
