I actually have never seen his gameplay personally, but combo videos mean fucking nothing.
Dont try and call me out because i said trying to learn viper on pad is an exercise in pain,if you wanna play most the better players (Ryan Hart comes to mind but i’m not really up on euro pros) in a real setting it’s gonna be in an arcade.
I figure it will stay it does have use’s but they are limited and you really have to break her execution down to be able to use it in an actual match,i cant think of a single top level viper i have seen using it on offense.
It had so many uses though. Invincibility frame(reversal hur hur), goes through fireballs and can be comboed into. Of course it was gonna get a nerf. If it only went through fireballs, nobody would have nerfed it.
Who said anything about hit-confirmable? Just speed up the startup a little so its better for punishing random focuses and people fishing for shit, but still not able to combo into. Give the move a use.
And yeah, you can’t compare EX tk to the original form of EX Dread, which had startup invincibility, great speed, went through fireballs, could be combo’d into from a jab and looped into itself. That would have been ridiculous, easily best move in the game.
And, mp TK is already great at punishing random focuses. No need to KILL people for throwing out a single focus attack. The punishment doesn’t fit the crime.
I don’t use it often, but it’s great for murdering teleport spammers like Akuma.
It’s also good for a little tick damage, for people who jump a lot, people who spam specials from a distance to gain meter, or just ranomdly since it’s completely safe (unless you do it into a corner). It’s low risk/high reward.
Woah, EX TK is not completely safe. The distance it creates keeps you safe from a lot of stuff but it’s still -5 on block, so you’re open to anything that can reach you in that timeframe. Unless done at point blank range where she ends up farther away, Ryu and Ken can super her, any shoto cr.mk tags her, Dhalsim can super…oh yeah, Sagat gets free TUxxrape, learned that the hard way when I started playing Viper. Auto-reversal Chun super punishes even at after point blank EX TK.
Supers aren’t much of an issue, since they take forever to build and they’re rarely used over EX moves and FADC.
And, if you do it at the right distance, even TU and crouch MK can’t touch you. Plus, crouch MK is a one frame window, so it has to be perfectly timed.
My point is that against most of the roster, you aren’t risking much if anything by using this move once in a while. Compared to what you stand to gain from it…an easy 551 damage.
An easy 551 if your against an AFC(away from controller) opponent or a drug addict with retarded reflexes. How hard is is it to block that shit? It can’t punish anything properly. Srsly, i only landed that move when me and my friends had just started playing. Even then i usually got a srk or ultra.
EX thunder knuckle sucks. It has its random uses but it generally sucks ass and isn’t really a reliable move for Viper. It could use a slight tone up. Especially considering how long the start up is for the move.
I’m not saying the move is good. It’s very difficult to connect with. However, it’s hard to punish, and it has a huge payoff. Generally low risk if done at the right time, but a potential REALLY high reward. The only thing keeping it from being ridiulous is that huge startup.
Now, people were suggesting that startup be faster, and I say that if startup is faster, it would be too dang good…unless the properties change.
Get rid of crumple stun, then. Make it more punishable, then.
But, don’t just decrease startup and leave it as is, because that would be lame.
I mean I like the way the move is now. Has random uses that when applied with the rest of Viper’s game allows her to overall control space very effectively. The move was generally made to be situational but powerful move. Which basically means on its own as a special moves it sucks ass but when used at the right time with the rest of her game can be powerful. You aren’t going to be using it very often though that’s for sure. It wasn’t really meant to be a move to punish whiffs or anything like that. That’s what EX seismo or MP thunder knuckle were designed for. If EX Thunder Knuckle was sped up to where it would travel the entire screen in the same frames as say EX seismo it’d basically be the best whiff punisher in the game.
Anything but perfect timing of the move will put you in possible trouble but that’s worth it for a special that crumples and breaks armor like it does.
Yeah I’d rather have a completely different application of the move or just leave it as is. I mean I’m not going to complain if they decrease the start up but it’s not really necessary. There’s plenty more things that Viper could use toning up in that don’t involve that special.
