This right here is why I mained Viper. I played a ton of GG back in the day so I enjoyed rushing down to no end and you had to master your FRC strings to either get big damage or put the pressure on. Viper was the only character in SF4 that remotely resembles how a GG character plays.
I enjoy the fact that she is getting buffed though she only needs a few to make her better. I don’t want her execution to be easier just leave the execution as is but fix some of the retarded aspects to her like the lack of hit boxes on her c.mk. If these so called buffs put her at top tier I will not feel guilty using her as this would be sweet, sweet, retribution for the bull shit she had to put up with in SF4.
I love bustin out Viper’s jab super lately against folks who like to throw fireballs at close range 'cause people don’t really expect her to be able to super through that shit
But yeah, having her super be more useful in general would be nice. Could say the same thing about a lot of other characters too though.

100% agree.
Lol, I wonder why I never do that. Anyway, buff or nerf, she’s still going to remain my main char because she’s really the only character in the game right now that’s, well, any fun, lol(well, Cammy’s pretty fun too). Hopefully the new characters like Juri will be as fun to use as her in SSF4.
And I’m not sure, considering all the ways she has to land her first Ultra like all the SJC stuff, it’d probably be the same deal. Unless Capcom removes her SJC stuff(don’t you fucking dare), her Ultra is a grab(don’t think it would be like that) or like Deviljin said, it’s like Guile’s Ultra, lol.
Viper is absolutly fine the way she is, whatever improvements they make I hope they don’t affect her gaming to the point where she feels diffrent. Her execution shouldn’t be made easier in my opinion and part of the reason I like Viper so much is learning her hard execution. The only qualms I have with execution are the super comging out when you try to do an ex move or an ultra, and many people complain at this as it affects the whole game.
I’m not meaning to be disrespectful or rude in anway but I feel the people that want her exection made easier are people that don’t have the pateints to learn her, they want things easier because they are either not patient enough or too lazy to learn her.
The thing I most concered about with ssf4 is the introduction of new ultra combo’s for all characters. I’m kinda worried about this because if you have to pick your ultra like 3S I get the feeling there will be one dominant ultra similar to how certain characters had a dominant super art in3S, for example ken super art 3, Chun li super art 2, Urien ageis reflector, and Yun geneijin. Other characters such as Ryu, Dudley, Necro for example, could use more than one super art effectivley but the top players generally stuck with the best super art. This is what I hope ssf4 doesn’t turn into (which it most probably will imo).
I wonder what Vipers new ultra/ultra’s will be? will they be better than the currnet one? I don’t know what to say about this. Which brings me to my last point, Vipers ultra at the moment while not easy to use can be used effeciently with practice. Learning her sjc fadc ultra and sjc ultra from a poke or combo is difficult to master, and I’m sure many viper players can agree with this. What I’m getting angry about is, if the new ultra is better than the old one I would feel angry after learning all her difficult stuff. I will make me feel like I worked hard for nothing.
cr. Mk fix the hitbox because it looks stupid when her foot doesn`t hit and it clearly looks like it should.
make the explosion hitbox on her ultra slightly bigger. Same reason, it looks stupid when it doesn`t hit while it should. It would make comboing from f.Tk more reliable, and midscreen ex seismo > flamekick > ultra slightly easier and more reliable.
Yeah I always thought viper would be top tier easily with some tweaks. Outside of her so so normals she pretty much emphasizes what being top tier in sf is all about. Space control. Sagat is top tier for the same reason. You are never 100 percent safe from his offense anywhere on the screen.
As far as the ultra thing…it was only the top 3 characters in 3s that had the one super for all situations issue. Hence why they were top 3. To use ryu at high level play u had to be proficient in all 3 supers and certain ones were better for certain matches. Makoto required u to switch between at least 2 supers for different matches and so on. People even sometimes used other supers for characters like urien and its obvious his aegis blows his other supers out of the water. Just have to hope capcom makes each ultra useful and varies enough so that between different matchups different ultras can be used. Which was basically 3s outside of top 3.
I didnt know cr.mk hitbox fix and 2 millimeter bigger explosion hitbox on ultra would make her broken while new moves and even more ultra setups will not. Remember everyone else is also getting buffed, even Sagat so i dont see a reason why Viper shouldnt. Id rather see a technical and difficult char like Viper on top, then braindead Rufus or Sagat. IMHO offcourse.
I really just want her c.jab to be at 0 or +1 on block, everything else is really just the scrubby SF4 system holding her back. If they toned reversals, throws, and fixed some hit boxes I think she would be a more solid character.
Yeah that’s all you need to be tops. Go even with the big guys and beat the rest. Sagat is shitty as fuck and he’s top tier. I remember when top tiers used to really make you work and had really fun ass shit. Sagat just feels so bleh to play. Like he has more tools than most of the cast and he still feels dry. I guess it’s mainly because most of his matches are still won on easy mode easily OS’d shit. Being creative with Sagat has like almost no purpose. Sagat is just always the last guy standing. Boring. He can’t do anything but go even at most against most of the high tier characters in the game. He’s just less shitty than everyone else. Oh and thank god he kicks the crap out of Gief. That’s about the only thing I like about Sagat.
Viper not having options on wake up wouldn’t be a huge issue if she wasn’t also secretly limited on offense as well. People see Viper high flying in match vids but don’t see inside the mechanics that she’s just a time bomb waiting to explode of holes. Especially with that low ass health you don’t want that many gaps in an offensive character. Yun had shit all to do if he got knocked down in 3S but his offense made up for it. Same with 3S Chun. You knocked either of those characters down and they were free, but their tools made up for it and made them as strong as they were. She doesn’t have to be retarted as either of those characters but I don’t believe her offense even comes remotely close in reliability. I just don’t believe Viper’s offense makes up for her lacking defense whether it’s on wake up or standing or whatever. Too many characters with faster frames and holes in block strings and an ultra that doesn’t hit reliably doesn’t help.
This game isn’t broke enough though so yeah. They just need to balance the core game mechanics and then just make everyone go wild.
One thing I’ve noticed about this board is the gross overuse of the word “broken.” Either posters don’t really realize what the word means or they really don’t get how the game works because every other idea for a character buff gets shot down as “broken.”
“Uh I think if Vega could FADC out of a blocked Barcelona attempt he’d be way too broken.”
