Buying a stick made in china

it sucks having to pay more, but that’s just the way it is, buyer is usually responsible for duty/custom/taxes fees, not the seller. a lot of auctions on ebay will state this as well. since you are dealing with new seller in China, i bet they don’t have a clue what the importing fees of the other countries are.

I understand he could also not be aware of it, but I’m just not taking responsibiliy for it. The UPS guy couldn’t even tell me what those costs were EXACTLY for. He just said “maybe it’s this and that”. Well I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely not going to pay for just “some thing”.
So now the package is on the way back.

My posts were not a complaint about the seller by the way, he is still friendly and I dont know whether he will refund or not. I expect him to do so though.
I just made my post so that other europeans know about these extra costs, which make the deal A LOT less attractive.

I have shipped Niking.Niking back the broken joystick I received and am waiting for him to send me a refund for the cost of return shipping as well as waiting on him to send me a new replacement joystick.

So far his customer service has been good I must say.

What did the shipping cost you?

iCu the problem is because your seller has not declared the parcel as a gift and has not declared a lower value, so you had to pay taxes, i’ve talked about it earlier in this post.Usually in european union it is 20% of taxes + 15 to 20 euros of treatment fees. The seller used certainly EMS, with Airmail you rarely have to pay taxes.
Check the tracking, does it shows that you have refused the package???Use the tracking to get a refund in that case, it is a proof.
I’m sorry to say that but it is your fault, you must be aware that you have to pay taxes when you deal with outside of UE…

He used UPS (dont know whether this is EMS?) and indeed the tracking says I refused. But it’s good to know he should have sent it as a gift, so thank you for that information.

Most people have no idea about the hidden brokerage fees until the package is at their door and they have to pay. I definitely sympathize with iCu because had the seller shipped the item the correct way there wouldn’t have been any retarded fee’s. I learned the hard way when i shipped something to Canada using UPS… bad idea. Sorry iCu, you better get a refund.

They sell them in NYC? Where at?

Also if he used EMS,UPS or DHL, you have to pay taxes 90% of the time.
last year i refused a parcel and the seller pretended to have not received it back (it was sent to me by usps priority) the seller didn’t provide me a tracking number, so i couldn’t complain on ebay cause i got no proof and the shipping time takes to long, i ask the seller to contact me in case he received it, i’m still waiting…
So always try to get a tracking number in this kind of transaction.

I don’t know that they have a storefront, but the sites seem to mention they’re based in NYC. You could probably email the owners of the websites or contact the youtube users to see… I’m sure you could check it out in person and buy it if you really liked it.

Is any body interested in a group buy for the GVR in Canada?

thought it might be useful for the curious

Greater Vancouver Region. Technically now called Metro Vancouver.

I’m in if someone is willing to help set it up since I have no time to do it.

for ppl who wants the stjjyg sticks for ps3/ps2/pc they are available from the european agent here:
http://stores.ebay.com/chenlefr
they are worth their money

Fiol, do you have any idea which online store sells these sticks you posted from taobao: http://shop33917627.taobao.com/?catId=42233953&queryType=cat&categoryName=U09OWSAgUFMzvda7%2BtKhuMs%3D&encodeCategoriesName=y&search=y

Is it www.stjjyg.com or www.dianwanjie.com or some other?
I’m after a high quality chinese PS3 arcade stick, but those sticks from taobao don’t seem to match the online store ones. I’d get one off taobao but it’s all in chinese and I think someone mentioned taobao only caters to buyers within China.

as i said, outsider can’t buy from taobao since it’s only for chinese (mainland,hk,tw).
to buy one of those stick (they are just some example of what the company “stjjyg” or “dianwanjie” can do, you can customise your AS as you pleased) you have to contact directly the company through their website or contact their agent… the problem now is that if you don’t know any chinese it’s pretty difficult to talk with the company and with the other agents except for the european one and the HK one… so as i said so many times contact the HK guy and tell him what you would like to buy and he can give you prices and other informations that might help you decide.
anyway most of your question has been already answered here: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showpost.php?p=6401696&postcount=193

shipping the item the correct way means lying about its value or status as a purchase?

Yes,the way to avoid custom tax is to declare the item as a gift with low value.
In this case, the customer won’t be charged a custom duty in most case.
