Button Mapping Discussion Thread

MvC2 layout, with the claw method for trijumps in mind. I blame the ROM for these habits lol:

B C A1
A E A2

Just really need my crouching lights as my lk button, also Spit needed to be it’s original button.

alot of trijump moves are now on B, so this layout works the best for me

L H A1
M S A2

it take about a half hour to get used to it when using sentinel, but it makes lightning attackxlightning storm really easy IMO

i need some help with my button layout im using a 360 controller for now until i get stick later. right now i need a easy button layout for me any suggestions?

Going with the “TvC” layout.

L M H
E A1 A2

I still find myself used to the MVC2 layout though. Doh!

Do you think this button layout is better than B for a Fightstick?

I’ve been using B, but it still feels a little weird calling assists. Do you guys think it works to set it up like MvC2?

Say these are the 6 buttons on a Fightsick:
135
246

1 Light
2 Medium
3 Heavy
4 Special
5 Assist 1
6 Assist 2

What do you guys think? or is there a better layout to use?

Fuck it! Can’t get used to the default :l::m::h: on top layout.

This however:
:l::h::a1:
:m::s::a2:
…fits like a glove.

I’m using:

:l::m::h::s:
:a1::a2: N :s:

N = Nothing

I found it works well although I’m new to the MvC series, let me know if I left something out or doing something (unknown MvC move) is a problem with this layout.

Also I put two S, the top one is to activate x-factor along with the LMH right beside it (easy to press all four buttons at the same time) and the bottom is for the launch or x-factor also. I just found doing a combo using the top 4 buttons a bit hard because my hand has to move to the right or my pinky has to reach far right just to launch but the bottom S is already where my pinky is so it fixes that.

I’ve been using

:l::m::h:
:s::a1::a2:

though I’ve been switching around for a Mvc2 style:

:l::m::a1:
:h::s::a2:

:l::m::a1:
:s::h::a2:

and

:m::h::a1:
:l::s::a2:

The only odd part is that one of them suits for one character, not so much for another :
on a HRAP3 btw

I used the Beta set up in options:

L M H
S 1 2 (assists)

Just seems the most natural to me for this game rather than MvC2 controls all things considering.

I am glad that this layout is comfortable for you! Ironically enough it ended up being uncomfortable for me =
I just use the standard B-Layout on my TE and the Y- Layout on my HRAP Vewlx

idk man im a mvc2 player and the Beta setup seems to work fine you just gotta get used to it.
ive tried the MHS but i cant seem to land a decent combo with this setup.
L A1 A2

I have a custom Happ/iL stick, and I use:

L M H
S A1 A2

Feels okay, though I’m toying with the notion of trying:

L H A1
M S A2

For a more MvC2 feel.

Also considering this for thumb assists:

L M H
A1 A2 S

L M H A1
S S S A2

Mine seems pretty unorthodox to some people. In TvC I used to configure the bottom row as the “partner” command as it gave quick access to Baroque. For MVC3 I also use this similar format for mostly comfort. To launch into an aerial combo I press the third ‘S’ with my little finger and I knock down with the first ‘S’ button using my thumb. The middle ‘S’ button helps if I play with C. Viper because of her focus attack using A+S. If I ever use C.Viper the move will feel natural like playing SSF4. Also teleporting with Akuma only using one button seems weird. The A1 and A2 buttons on the far right prevent me calling out an accidental assist because they can be killed so easily. LOL

L M A1
H S A2

for me.

Yes, the button config is the stupid archaic way. You would think that with all the stuff they included in training mode that they would have put in something that’s been around since MvC2.

L m h
s a1 a2

Im new to MvC3 and its hard when you’re used to SF4…

Anyways my current layout might be onorthodox but seems to have a flow in it…
If anyone got some pointers where troubles might lie with this layout plz point them out as im a complete nub.

Ive got an arcadestick ABCD being toprow and 1234 bottom row.

{ABCD}
{1234}

A= Heavy
B= Medium
C= Light
D= L+M+H
1= S
2= assist 1
3= assist 2
4= assist 3

I chose for this layout so I can make a nice flow with my right hand

  • Light, Medium, Heavy
  • Ringfinger, Middlefinger, Forefinger.

at the moment is feel more comfertable than the standard layout

that’s mines as well, with A1 & A2 at the top R/L. I play on a saturn usb.

this one didn’t take as long as I thought it would, it’s more of the same setup I was running in MvC2. I do not use “Z” or “C” buttons.

:m::h::s: (none)
:l::a1::a2: (none)

I’ve been using the Blazblue style setup above, and it has worked well for me – someone above mentioned wanting the low short from SSFIV on the LK button, and I have found myself needing that also.

A1 and A2 aren’t that hard to hit in this setup either, though everyone can tell I don’t have much MvC2 experience. :stuck_out_tongue:

layout is simple and you never have to take your fingers off the buttons as has been said a couple times before

a b c
s a1 a2

althought when people start mentioning blazblue in here it makes me think why not just set it up just like blazblue

A B A1
S C A2

it would be the same as default blazblue layout with s being similar to drive attack … abc of course being l > m > h

L M H
A1 A2 S

Easy xfactor and I’m liking the idea of keeping your thumb free for assists
