I’m a pad warrior, but I believe default settings on the PlayStation 3 controller have :a1:+:a2: set to L2 which I deem entirely pointless.
Instead, I’ve decided to keep the default controls for the most part and simply switch L2 to :l:+:m:+:h: to make it easier to go into X-Factor than trying to mash multiple buttons with a single thumb.
In BlazBlue I always have :snka:+:snkb:+:snkc: mapped to L2 so pressing L2 in combination with the X button for all four face buttons is natural to me.
Can someone explain to me how that’s the type B control scheme? Unless I have a glitched copy type B is not that. Left bumper (fierce punch in SF) is listed as an assist button and RB (Roundhouse in SF) is listed as hard attack. Like I said, is my copy glitched or something? It’s incredibly frustrating having to set up my controls everytime I play with a friend and having the normal type B would help immensely.
I’ve been thinking, and I’m going to try this next time I play:
:l: :h:
:a2: :a1: :s:
I suggested something like this earlier in the thread, and someone else mentioned they use something similar, but there’s a very slight change I think changes the whole dynamic of the layout: :a2: is on the LEFT.
Why? Well, this game does something very… odd when you lose a point character. The first partner replaces the point, but the point becomes partner 1, with an empty health bar. However, unlike MvC2, you NEED to use :a2: for your second, still alive partner, instead of both :a1: and :a2: controlling that partner’s actions.
Putting :a2: on the LEFT makes it easier to hit with the thumb. In theory. Haven’t tried it yet. Will try it tomorrow.
I played with standard stick lay out for the first day and it just didn’t feel right. After changing (which was pretty hard after learning the default controls) I’m really liking
well first of all, the buttons on this game are stupid… thats all that needs to be said there. after playing for a week with:
L M H
S 1 2
i find that configuration appalling. the assists are weird and going H to S in a chain is highly counterintuitive. also its uncomfortable.
so i’ve switched to:
L M H
1 2 S
so much better. assists feel better for some reason that i’m not aware of… i guess they dont seem “in the middle of nowhere” like the first layout probably cause they are where short is, which is a highly used button on other games as a starter.
S in the HK position just fits cause it continues the magic series perfectly.
x factor isnt a problem cause i just use my thumb on s and 3 fingers on the top ones… much better than palming it for me.
When I played TvC, although I didn’t get into it, because the 3 attack buttons being lined up meant I wouldn’t need to move my hand, pressing assist with my thumb felt really strange…
in tvc my layout looked like this:
:l::h:
:s:
However, after looking at this though:
:l::a1:
:s::h::a2:
I might use this when I get the game, having to shift my middle finger down to from to :h: means I can use my index for :s:, and can easily slap and :h: together with my middle finger for Super (which I never got accustomed to doing yet)
Actually, If dashing can be done with :l::h:, I’m going to have to reconsider this and go with:
:l::h:
:s::a1::a2:
or
:l::h:
:a1::a2::s:
Guys I think I found our solution!
:l::h:xx
:a1::a2:xx:s:
*xx means blank/none.
What this does is give you the pros of the B layout without the cons. It also works better than:
:l::h:
:a1::a2::s:
-You can x Factor easily
-Fingers never have to leave
-You can assist easily with just your thumb
-Your pinky is not awkwardly placed below your ring finger
I have been using the MvC2 style, but X Factoring is kind of a pain and a lot of big combos seem to involve X Factoring (It’s like the FADC for MvC3).
So I’ll be using this for a bit to see how my hand feels, let me know if you guys like it or have a tweak for it. It just seems to literally fit like a glove. Try to lay your hand with your fingers open across the top row of buttons and your pinky falls right where I placed it on this layout.
I’m having a hard time adjusting to the controller/button layout on MVC3.
I’ve played MVC2 for 10 years now and to change controller/button layout is becoming quite difficult!
Does any MVC2 players have this issue?
How are you overcoming it?
I current have the
i have RT as my dash (L+M) and LT as my assist 2
i have RB as assist 1 and LB as (L+M+H) so i can press that and b to get x-factor
i might consider putting right joystick click as assist 1 if i need another button for storms lightning attack but i dont know , its hard to do that on a pad consistently
if u think about it, the mvc2 type set up should be either
M H M S
L S or L H
depending on what button you normally used as a launcher or stuff like that
i like having lmh in order like that, the deafult pad controls put LMH in a row but has S in the upper right corner, i just rotated it 90 degrees
x factor is weird for me but it is what it is. i could complain about the weak choice to greenlight the fuckery that is the choice for an “easier” button layout but whats the point. i’m dealing with it.
is perfect for 8 button layouts, and I may fall in love. It doesn’t take much for my finger to reach over, and my fingers are on the attack buttons at all times.
but I like as well.
:l::h:
:s::a1::a2:
I don’t know how you guys play with S on the other sides of the assists
