I meant in comparison to his old self. He got nothing new and everything nerfed. Unless you count swiss cheese which is basically just a move to troll scrubby players. He’s obviously going to be the same because Wolverine only ever does 2 things ever. If Mike said “he also got a new follow up on his berserker slash that is unblockable” then…maybe. It’s like in SFIV AE when Ryu got nerfed to hell but “he can still throw hadoken and shoryuken so its the same”. No shit…that’s what Ryu does.
Which brings his scare level down a lot. It was just in Vanilla those two things were basically like a dragon punch that 50/50 mixes you up into death combos and generally turning on XF1 and having enough time to kill off 2 people. Those 2 things are gone and/or nerfed to shit so there pretty much goes any reason to be afraid of the character anymore. At least not any more than the other rushdown characters which many will surpass him in potential now that the only 2 or 3 things he had are brought down to less super human strength.
Instead of Akuma assist being a retarded addition to everything else he used to be able to do, Akuma assist will be necessary to just amount basic offenses now. If Wolverine is fighting a character with a projectile he will need akuma or other projectile assist just to get a chance to get in. He’s going to be burning meter on berserker charge a lot more now and generally just not being able to amount things as quickly or as effectively as the other rushers anymore. He has no tool without an assist that will close the gap safely anymore. No desperation invincible move that gets him in while most other rushdowns like X-23 and Jill have quicker, safer screen clearing options and at least 1 or 2 desperation supers that blow through all zone.
It’s obvious they want his play style to be more based around braindead turning on berserker charge and running forward but I don’t see it being a lasting strategy especially since you can’t build meter during. He’s just an average rush character now…nothing unique about him anymore. He’ll have the Rufus/Ryu effect where top players who use him will still make him work, but they’re ultimately handicapping themselves on the tier list rather than taking the most advantage of the game.
He’s obviously designed to use turnabout mode to hitconfirm random hits. The actual “Objection” hits looks like it tracks, and even if it doesn’t, it should have sufficient range - and then you can start your shit with the fingers to actually kill the character with silly wall bounces.
You don’t understand the character if you think turnabout is supposed to be used outside of hitconfirming or punishing.
LI Joe goes into the much more offensive style that Strange will present. It’s just simply it’s set up via zoning since he left rights instead of up downs. You need space to set up the left rights but once you get it you’re good to go.
They nerf his berserker slash and his dive kick but not to shit, he can still use them effectively, just that he will get blown up if he gets copypasta with his berserker slash. His normals are still some of the best in the game, berserker charge is still very dangerous and the air dash nerf is a big buff for ground base characters like him. In fact the new hit stun system is a secret buff for him and Wesker too as they are the ones who retain their damage. So he’s less effective but you will be disappointed if you are expecting him to turn into some low tier crap.
Am i the only one who thinks that rushdown will still be just as strong as it is now in mvc3…No airdash blocking okay fine i will just rush you down on the ground and teleport in your shit all day fuckin being in the air.
I don’t think she’ll be broken but I don’t think people should exactly sleep on Phoenix teams yet.
Less meter gain means more emphasis on the first two characters; by the time Dark Phoenix gets around you should be in a worse position overall, but since Dark Phoenix is worse it kinda negates out.
Sideways TACs can always be blocked while being comboed. Sure you could be randomly reset if you are just mashing special or you could allow them to do free combos or get easy meter, but considering the new color system I’d practice always naturally countering sideways and learning to react to up or down based on colors. It will be troublesome if a player does something like upward TAC into Morrigan meter stealing fireball, but we’ll see what happens with that since apparently not being able to block during air dashes makes her ass.
Air X-factor makes it a much better idea than before to bring in Phoenix when you have five bars. Once she goes dark hard tag in your last character and feel free to play normally with meter. When Dark Phoenix come in just Phoenix inferno -> air x-factor and you should be good… unless her invincibility got nerfed. Which might be possible.
Lack of options when snapped in makes it harder… but good players wouldn’t let her just run away, anyway. They had guaranteed mix-ups holding them in place and would force her to block. Snapbacks are apparently worse, anyway, so forcing her in might be harder overall.
I’m not sure if the vanilla Character + Assist + Phoenix teams will still work nearly as well. Personally I use Wesker + Akuma/ Magneto + Phoenix because I don’t like on relying 100% on my initial character and I will probably do the same in ultimate… unless she really is ass. And she might be.
Regardless I’ll try sticking with her and breaking her till I find a team I want to use otherwise.
It’s hard to say. The fact that the DHC glitch is gone and X-Factor level 1 is pretty much useless is gonna make Ultimate so much more the better game. But as far as characters. I am calling that we are going to see ALOT of Dr. Strange. Especially once someone figures out what the “perfect best buddy” assist is with him when he is setting up his traps + teleport. You are gonna see lots of people flock to that character, hell I’m pretty sure many already have there eyes on that character.
Nah I don’t think Strange will be that overused, maybe in tournaments a bit more. He got low HP, requires setups/execution/thinking, if theres a char like Wolverine (Nova?..) who can be as effective without any effort/trouble thatll be the dude mainly used instead. Same way I think Strider won’t be that overpicked.
I think the exact opposite about Stephen. I am going to invest a lot of time in Dr.Strange but I think he will be a difficult character to utilize to his full potential. Maybe not C.Viper Execution heavy but there is going o have to be some serious strategy going into battles. Most people just like to Derp their way to victory. I really don’t see him working like that. I also think the lack of an 8 way air dash will turn alot of noobs off which is good. Initially I think the most overplayed characters will be Vergil,Strider and Ghost Rider… and in that order.
Comparing Nova to Wolverine is like comparing Iron to helium, The fact that he has access to fly unfly combos is already leaps and bounds beyond logan in execution. Nova is definitely a character I will main but I said that day 1 after the leaked roster… The Character that looks most derp to me atm is either Vergil or Ghostrider.
‘‘who can be as effective without any effort/trouble’’ I didn’t mean that Nova’s playstyle is like Wolverine lol. What I meant was, if there is a character who can be incredibly effective still without to much effort, he would most likely be more overused than the chars that require way more. (And everyones been talking about how insane Nova looks, and also at the same time how kind of …generic? he is. He doesn’t look complicated or hard to play at all but looks like hes crazy, hence the reference I made. Guess you could say he’s like a Ryu/Ken at base) Ghostrider def. looks the most derp so far
Ah…I figured they would let him get cheap in the corner but I guess that goes to show how strong they think his left/right is going to be. That means people will definitely try the corner to escape his mix up but that will most likely be the area where you can more reliably set up high/lows and throw any way.
