Busted or Bust, lets bet on who/what ends up being broke

Just for the “I called that shit 5 months ago” factor, what characters or aspects of UMVC3 do you guys think are going to be problems in the future once the game evolves? You can name up to 3 things/characters/moves and list a reason behind each. This should be entertaining.

Here’s my guesses:

Zero - No, not just because I’m a Zero main. He’s getting some pretty nice buffs in ultimate. I picture him having the Fei Long factor where he was good before but because all the other busted stuff moved down and he got slightly better, suddenly he’s top top tier.

Nemesis Super Armored Assist - With Haggar and Tron on the outs, and Nemesis looking like a MUCH better assist character when forced to be on point, I see his super armored overhead punch being the new GTFO assist and making him a staple on a lot of teams.

Herp Derp Super Air X Factor Super - I really see this being used A LOT by scrubs. random air super x super, shit like okami shuffle, hail storm, skrull inferno, etc etc. Not that it doesn’t happen with ground supers but I see every bad players combo just being a regular bnb with 2 of the same super tacked on at the end for EVERY character now.

Nova is probably gonna be busted. It’s like they were like “how can we make this character as good as possible”.

Of the new character at least…

Vergil is looking like warning signs for OP. It won’t be as easy to come by since he sounds a bit more limited than Dante without meter, but with meter packed on ready to go he just sounds like such a beast.

Strider could end up being retarded too as any character with low ass health usually does but I haven’t seen anything from him as strong as Zero that doesn’t require a bunch of meter.

Of the old characters…

Zero for sure. Guy was already stupid except he could kill you in one combo and build 2 meters in his own combos. Plus hard knockdown on buster was probably among the stupidest shit in the game. He’s nerfed in the meter/damage department a bit but now he’s basically going to be harder target to hit with all of those buffs and he was already the walking spaceship/hit box in Vanilla.

Dante could end up being hella good considering people are still figuring out new shit with him to this day. Not just in his combos but like in setups with assists that set up really nasty mix ups that can’t be advance guarded. His hammer will still be strong for mix ups to create double overheads especially on the bigger characters. Long as the frame advantage is still big on block it’ll have a lot of uses to set up mix ups. Being able to triple jump and double air dash in devil trigger will make him even stronger during a super that wasn’t used far enough in Vanilla. With a lot of important characters getting their health nerfed going into DT to buff up your damage and recharge health is going to be big. Plus with triple jump you’ll be able to get up to super jump height and then throw 2 thunderbolts, activate flight and throw 4 more thunderbolts before landing. All while being able to call assists since you didn’t super jump. Gonna have some nasty ways to shut down zone and assists with the buffs. Double air dash gonna be nasty for getting in faster also.

**Viper is still being discovered to this day and with little to no nerfs…will end up being top tier easily. Probably gonna be the best in the game. **One of the few offensive characters that can completely protect themselves with reversals.

Storm or Trish sound like sleepers for new OPs also with their buffs.

Captain America won’t be OP or anything but being another character that can actually deal with rushdown other than just sitting and blocking, he’s definitely going up also.

Busts: Haggar, Chun Li, Hsien Ko. Still all butt tier on point with one assist worth talking about. Haggar still S tier assist at least.

No offence but does this really need it’s own thread?
Anyways
Magneto Gravitation/Repulsion/Attraction, just look at it, it’s stupid.
Firebrand, once people learn mixups/combos/resets with luminous body and the homie, I don’t see you being able to do much.
5 meter anchor Vergil + lvl 3 XF = Dark Vergil

The European economy lol but srsly :shake:. First them then the US and rest of the world except Germany and China.

Naw but seriously I think Zero will be even better, for those people who can use him. He is barely getting nerfed, and getting a big buff. He was already good, and now that everyone does less damage due to DHC glitch nerf, his damage will be normal.

Vergil will have some Wolverine factor with his crossups into safe Supers. And his gdlk Level 1 swords armor. He can combo off of a backthrow which is always good, idk about his other throws. He can self OTG so it helps is combo abilities, he’s got sick range and teleport mixups are always good.

I think Skrull is a sleeper too, he does big damage, and he’s getting a major mobility and punishability buff by being able to meteor smash in the air. He’s only getting better, and with less easy one-hit kill teams he will rise in ranks.

Trish is going to be good, she was already really good, and now she can OTG super, and her keepaway is getting better with faster startups on her zoning specials.

Same thing with Chris, if he stays how he is he will be a beast. Command normal pistol xx gun specials in the air and on ground will be good. And with faster startups on his specials he’ll be a beast.

And Doom. Already massive solo damage, can combo off of throws, tricky dash/jump cancelling from normals into hi/low or double hi/low. And now he is getting faster and his foot dives will be ridic. I don’t mind seeing him being good though.

And Viper. She’s technical but she is a beast in the right hands.

Broken idk, but they will be really good.

Yeah I see Doom easily being within the top 10 characters at this point. Don’t see him being better on point than Dante/Vergil/Viper/Zero but considering not many characters in the game are going to be better than them still it seems he can definitely be like right under them. Honestly someone with as strong of assists as Doom doesn’t really need to be much better than they are at this point.

The top tier hotness:
Old characters (aka why are these characters getting buffs): Zero, Doom, Viper
New characters: Vergil, Nova

The high tier sleeper characters:
Old: Skrull, Trish
New: Firebrand, Strange

Characters that will be complained about by scrubs during the first month of the game:
Sentinel, Nemesis, Ghost Rider

Characters that will still be bad:
Hsien-ko, Chun-li

I also think Chris and Captain America are gonna see more play, but I still don’t think these characters will be high tier. MAYBE Captain America but I’ll remain skeptical. Obviously Vanilla still has some characters that are being slept on hard and hopefully with some of the nerfs more attention will be given to those characters.

Sentinel’s super armor buff on his air normals is going to make the kiddies mad again.

The Anti-zone madness that is the Strange/Captain/Nemisis team! Not necessarily in that order but still, you might as well not even have projectiles if you play against any variation on this.

Strange is kinda like Viper in that he has a lot of elements to him that make it hard to decipher exactly how he’ll turn out but he’s definitely looking like a clear cut high tier as long as mystic sword is strong enough of a poking tool to cover his limitations with his ground normals.

In a game that is going to be more centered around zoning I definitely see Captain breaking through since he already had a ton of tools to deal with projectile game. Plus cartwheel now has invincibility on the start to pass through projectiles also. I feel that was kind of unnecessary actually but Captain needs what he can get so whatever.

You left out Hulk and Nova… Hulk getting Armor of both parts of gamma charge is going to just blow projectile users up and Novas Centurion arts charge blows through projectiles also…

As for my list…

I think the best characters so far
Vergil just looks really really good all around just does not seem to have any air control that may be his only weakness and I think Firebrand and Strider will both be a different brand of retarded… Nemesis will be the source of a lot of online ragequitting for the first few months as will ghostrider.
Hawkeye is really being slept on in my opinion and has the potential to be an absolute nightmare he may not be top tier but he will be very solid… Dr Strange is just scary a command Counter and the durability on his projectiles is going to make any attempt to zone him pretty futile not to mention his instant teleports and beam counter… Old characters to watch out for Cap,Doom,Zero,Hulk,Dorm,Chris and Skrull will rise up through the ranks. Side note I LOL’d so hard when I read Sentinel now has armor on his air normals…

Shhhhhh Don’t tell everybody its a secret.

Characters who will remain retarded: Viper, Zero, Dante, possibly Magneto and Phoenix.
Characters who will become retarded: Strider, Vergil, Doom, possibly Hawkeye and Strange.

I actually think phoenix wright , nemesis and iron fist are going to be complete ass

well not ass but just ok at best

(Wait, what’s this about Nova?)

Hmmm…I pretty much agree with :034:'s post almost exactly, even the Chris thing as a Chris player. The sole exception outside of the Nova thing that I apparently don’t know about, I have to say that I don’t think Strange will be a “sleeper” top tier, unless you mean “a top tier that scrubs will think are bad because they don’t understand that his specials are all entirely projectile and set-up based”. In that case…yes, then. He’ll be a “sleeper”.

I suppose I do feel also like there’s someone he’s potentially forgetting from that “sleeper tier” as well: Hawkeye.

At the very least, Hawkeye seems like one of those characters “scrubs” complain about (for the first month of the game), if only because Gimlet is Level 1 super that hits everywhere on the screen almost instantly.

Oh, that reminds me, Magneto’s gravitation moves will probably end up being busted, at least against some characters. Same with Storm’s Fair and Foul Wind moves since they can both super cancel those moves. Fair Wind into Elemental Rage or Hailstorm is going to make people rage.

Not Phoenix. COUNT IT!

Swagneto with the new Swaggitation move is going to be retarded.

I really just kinda feel like commenting on a lot of characters and not just who I think will be good. Anyway, here I go:

Crimson Viper is an incredible force to be reckoned with so I’m sure she’ll still be one of the best despite requiring a bit of extra effort to make work. She doesn’t seem to have been toned down at all in Ultimate which is kind of unnerving.

Dr. Doom wasn’t bad at all in normal Marvel 3, but in Ultimate he seems to have only gotten better, so he’s definitely going to be a scary one. His new jumping :s: is absolutely ridiculous among other things.

Trish and Zero are two of the most annoying characters in the entire game as far as I’m concerned, and neither of them seem to have been hit too hard. As far as I can recall Trish hasn’t gotten worse in any regard and while Zero has been changed in various ways he still poses a great threat. His new Buster is going to be something.

Dante will still be a solid contender regardless of the fact that he’s been toned down a bit. He might be out shined by his brother this time around, but Dante is Dante. I don’t really see very many people dropping him. Vergil really does look good, if not a bit overrated currently.

It appears that in the areas that they’ve toned down Magneto’s rush down they’ve upgraded his defensive game. His gravity related specials will probably be rather annoying to deal with for certain characters.

Amaterasu is still solid despite the air dash change, but I think that just means that Amaterasu players are just going to have to play a bit smarter. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. Air weapon switching will be rather interesting to experiment with.

Dormammu’s changes seemed to be indicative of statements made by Capcom that zoning is becoming a more viable playstyle in this game. Dark Matter ( :f::h: ) special cancel and aerial Dark Spells change up things a lot.

I’m not sure how Jean is going to end up in Ultimate. She’s coming in with even less health, a single action per air jump, and her TK shots disappear when she gets hit. Needless to say she’s been toned down a lot. Dark Phoenix will still be a force even with changes to X-Factor but I do think the game has been leveled quite a bit.

Wesker and Wolverine are still going to be good. Not much else to say about that. Meanwhile Haggar, Tron Bonne, and Hsien-Ko don’t seem to be getting what they need to be viable point characters.

The developers appear to be only concerned with Haggar and Tron’s assists and completely ignored how weak they were as point characters along with Lei-Lei. It’s rather unfortunate, but I hate Tron anyway. :stuck_out_tongue:

Speaking of characters generally being ignored, what’s up with Viewtiful Joe only getting one new special move and a mashable Mach Speed hyper for more damage? Everyone has a mashable hyper now, so that barely even counts.

Seems like Capcom still insists that Viewtiful God Hand is enough to make the little guy a serious threat. We’ll see how his new Slow Dodge ( :s:+:atk: ) changes things. Still sad about no OTG :m: Red Hot Kick.

Firebrand is someone I’m really excited about and curious to see how he’s going to fare. He seems to have all the necessary tools needed to be a viable character. New Wolverine? Maybe not, but definitely a good character.

Nemesis doesn’t look good to me. It just seems like he’s going to get zoned out hard and punished every time he makes a move by other, more defensive oriented characters.

I forgot about Hawkeye… I think he’ll be good but I still gotta wait and see how great zoning is really gonna be in this game and how much damage he does. Zoning’s definitely got a 1-up but I still think rushdown is gonna be a very dominant strategy.

About Nova: this guy just seems to have so many things going for him, all kinds of good mobility and good damage. He might be straightforward but I think that isn’t gonna harm him at all. In a way I kinda compare him to Balrog, another straight-forward character that just has a lot of good tools.

I more or less define a “sleeper” high tier character as a character who’s good, but who still isn’t seeing a lot of play for whatever reason there might be (even if a lot of players acknowledge how good this character is). For vanilla, characters like C. Viper, Felicia, Jill and a couple others I would described as sleeper character: they’re really good, but either they get upstaged by other characters that have a very similiar gameplan, they don’t have a solid assist or they don’t see a whole lot of play for another reason (like executional barriers).

Hsien-Ko and Morrigan are going to be broken… but in the bad way. :frowning:

MODOK will continue his secret monopoly of people who are momentum based.

If he gets going, he OCVs a team easily. If he doesn’t he’s the worst character in the game.
