Busted or Bust, lets bet on who/what ends up being broke

I think Strange will be S Tier. As said many times above me, he has all the options to play both a keepaway, and a nasty-looking rushdown/mixup game.

Why have we been complaining about Dark Phoenix then? Let’s just go blow her up because she used a teleport! Just like Phoenix has TK Shot, we have over 9000 projectiles to keep us safe while we do whatever mixups we want.

Yea I am a bit more confident into saying Vergil won’t be that high then doing the same for Strange, most of my post was towards V too, but if every one of Strange’s moves are usable and not to risky I won’t doubt he’ll be that high, that is if most are usable. I also forgot about his counter/super which look deadly.

I hope they won’t be to OP so that there won’t be floods of those two (Prob. won’t happen with Strange anyways tho) but regardless ill play em. LETS GO MAINS

Phoenix has an air dash, Strange does not. Most of Strange’s projectiles look rather questionable, his double beam attack look like the worst beam attack in this game (can’t even beat Dorm’s normals), his mystic sword can only be used in the ground and is easy to jump over, his eye requires you to palm it to move, his homing rings look rather easy to deal with in comparison to Phoenix’s salty balls (Light one is fast and easy to jump over, the rest comes out slowly). Whether or not his glyphs are effective or gimmicky remains to be seen. So Strange’s tier position is still extremely hard to predict.

If you only have $40 in your bank account and you buy this game then you will be broke.

I called it here first, folks!

To be fair, Dorm’s normals stuff a lot of projectiles. They are designed to do so.

the best thing about ultimate is it will allor we me to play who i wanna play and not worry about me needing to build/spare meter so i can get dark phoenix

THIS. I also expect Groot for more saltiness.

As for tiers…
Top 5:
Viper
Zero
Wright
Strider
Doom

Let me start by saying this: I haven’t even played Viper much in Vanilla but I have watched enough streams to know that she can kill easily for nothing. Put her with OTG assists and her damage becomes more insane. She’s like Rule 63 Wolverine on steroids.

Zero was already amazing at rushdown and keepaway. His Keepaway game is only getting buffed due to his buster buff, and it also enhances his rushdown too. He will be just about as braindead as Doom possibly will be due to his ability to extend combos by himself and with OTG assists despite the fact that hitstun scaling is more harsh overall.

Wright is going to be a top 5 character. Jumping out a bit yes, but he has Maya and deceptive damage. Add on top of that finding evidence isn’t that hard, AND add on top of the fact that he does have an OTG assist that hits low, Wright will be used on teams. This exludes his Turnabout mode, which makes him Dark Phoenix kinds of broken with a lv.3 that does 600k unscaled damage. Wright can easily kill 2 characters by himself in Turnabout mode. Just don’t use him as an anchor, he is ass as an anchor.

Strider does ass damage, and ass health. So? Oroboros does chip now, and with the Doom beam assist, I see Strider doing great things already. He already has a relaunch combo and possibly other things that we haven’t discovered yet. Strider is also one of the more mobile characters in the game next to Zero. Tracking teleport assist means we’ll be seeing him a bit too.

Doom is all SORTS of nasty in Ultimate. His Air-S not only does a hard knockdown, but hit-confirms into his bnb’s, and is the new Wolverine dive kick. His beam assist is still really good too. X-air factor helps Doom a ton too, considering he can do two finger lasers in the air now.

Nemesis is still really really good too. The only thing he lacks is speed and a decent projectile. His IDGAF super will surprise people and will make people rage online too. Nemesis’s damage output is only greater with OTG assists too. Nova is probably the 6th best character in the game. If he can flight cancel his moves, consider him Space Magneto. Nova also hits like a truck, and his gimmick is also cool as hell.

I already pointed the footdive change, actually. I honestly think the footdive buff only serves to make Doom easier. Once the novelty wears out, he’s gonna be about the same. That’s def. good for him considering he was already damn good in vanilla, but I have to reiterate; in the end, will these changes place him among of ranks of retardedness that is Viper and Zero? I highly doubt that.

i think (character name) is going to be the most OP character because of (insert guess) and i think only (insert character/characters) are going to be the best people to deal with it, i cant wait to see all the (character/character/character) teams played in tournies.

also (character) (assist name) assit looks to be the new gustaff/lariat.

you arent totally accurate on the OTG assist part. im pretty sure you are referring to the maya slide, which does hit low,and otgs, but people arent going to put him on teams for that reason since that move is not actually available as a true assist, it is only available while he is on point, and only in investigation mode, which the main point of PWs design is to get OUT of investigation mode pretty much ASAP. so people will need another character if they want an otg assist to aid their other characters.

plus you are gonna need some great setups to land the finger in turnabout mode since midscreen they can just block high and invalidate any finger pointing.

I think Doom can compare to Viper and Zero. The only thing they really have over him is mixup potential. Doom does just as much damage, builds just as much meter, has more health, has WAY better assists, and while he doesn’t have the crazy mixup potential they have, he’s no slouch in that department either. Viper and Zero are better rushdown characters, but Doom’s overall value probably makes him about even with them.

I have thought about this since the official mini change log was posted. Honestly Dr Doom will be a scary top tier character in UMVC3 but his hype is overshadowing the true threat. Dormammu will be so godly in UMVC3 that it is not even funny … Everyone knows he can cancel dark matter into any special and all of his specials have faster start up and recovery. That is all good and well but I think what is going to make Dormammu the scariest of the old marvel group is the fact that 2d, 1c or 2c, 1d Come out now after activation no matter what. Think about that for a minute… Yea exactly.

Viper doom and zero are trendy right now, lol.

Viper is still going to be the least played supposed “top tier”

Because shes not as good as people make her to be. Shes S tier in theory but Marlin Pie is the only decent Viper in the entire scene. Explain that.

points at Chrisis and Kbeast

Edit: There are only so many top players in the game so 3 viper specialists isn’t bad at all, and watching any of them play shows you why she’s freakin’ unfair.

Where was this confirmed in the bold?

Viper is difficult to use and not a well-liked character in general. Wolverine, Wesker, Magneto, Dark Phoenix, and Dante are very easy to use and (Except Phoenix) are very well-liked characters in general. Not only do most people not want to put in the effort it takes to use Viper, but most people don’t like her in the first place. It’s a lack of desire combined with the mindset of taking the easiest path to victory available. It’s the same reason there are people who still think X-23 is just a poor man’s Wolverine.

But the game has only been out for six or seven months and the general public has only just started to see Viper as a top tier character within the last two. With more time she’ll definitely be more explored and get more use. Count on it.

as an aside, I hate the ‘xxx is the only good yyy’ argument that you see so much (c/f: Clockwork is the only person to make doom good).

Viper is just a character where it’s so obvious if anyone gets better than her than they are now…it’s going to be a real tier differential between her and the other characters. Esepcially when a lot of the characters that used to be strong got nerfed but she’s the damn same.

There’s plenty of other good Dooms. Maybe he’s placed the best in local tournaments but he’s not the only Doom that’s done well at local or major tourneys.

Exactly, that’s my point :stuck_out_tongue: The above is a Chen quote.

Saying ‘marlinpie is the only good viper’ is the same thing though, just more commonly said.

Strange’s life is 850 (not that it matters)…and at least from watching the video (and being a Dante main) I can say for sure both L and M discs once they project forward will home in and hit you completely faster than hysteric ever could.

I don’t know if you’ve figured out what the strongest mix up in this game is but it’s basically call tracking projectile or general, horizontal based assist…wait for it to about touch your opponent…then teleport in the middle and hope they blocked the wrong way. Frame advantaged, completely safe mix up that the opponent must guess within single digit frames which way to block. If they block wrong, you get a combo. If they block right you get in for free with advantage. That is MVC3/UMVC3 in a nutshell. If you aren’t doing this yet with a teleport/command dash character, you need to start doing it.

MVC2 was about the up down, MVC3 is about put shit in the middle of them, then left or right. Strange is practically the epitome of an MVC3 character and why he’ll be pretty set to be a higher tier character. It’s also why he doesn’t have an air dash because Capcom is basically convinced he is the ultimate left/right character to the point where he won’t need much high/low.

Maybe people think they gave Strange the best teleport in the game just so he can look cute…but you’ll find out in a month.
