Yup, air teleports are a little tricky since you can be crossed up easily along with long recovery time on sents moves you just have to pick your spot. If you mess up XF and if she’s in the air after XF tkHD if she tries to do anything
The main problem with fighting Wesker is that Sent doesn’t have much for a Wesker that’s going to take to the air and shoot gun. His hit box is too large to avoid taking damage trying to move in and Wesker can teleport down on the ground or forward in the air afterwards to avoid being hit by random supers. Lame air gun Wesker is something that Sentinel really can’t do much about even with most assists. Your best bet is to have XF2/3 available so you get more speed to close the gap and can one shot him when you land something easier. You really don’t have anything solid to approach a Wesker that jump guns and teleports effectively.
My best bet against this is a yomi super jump M. That, or super jump fly and take it from there. It’s tough, but those are the only things Sent can do against the peashooter.
Let me make some points and contributions:
Amaterasu(say it right!): Its strictly an uphill battle. She is faster than you, has moves with far greater priority, she can easily duck under most of your moves, and that Cold Star is tough to beat. Couple that with Okami Shuffle(very safe) and its nearly impossible to get her. Yes she may have low health but for good reason, given what she has. The only way to deal with her is to use an assist or to wait for her to screw up. I use Tron’s Gustaff fire, which has worked pretty well for me. Once he gets a hit on you, you will EAT ALOT OF DAMAGE! To Amaterasu, Sentinel might as well be a target dummy, hate to admit it though.
Wesker: The man is a freaking nightmare to fight. High health and teleporting easily puts him above Sentinel’s mobility. Given that most of Sentinel’s normals are slow, he can easily counter with Rhino Charge (which is not that hard). On the topic of instant overhead, I believe they are refering to his H teleport. Any good Wesker will wait a bit to see if you throw out launcher, after which he will proceed to have his way with you. His Samurai Edge also serves as a very effective way of stuffing your projectiles. This is once again another uphill battle. In my opinion I would suggest a good anti air, Tron’s flame helps me out. Even then its still hard.
Dante: Not nearly as nightmarish as Wesker. His teleport is slow and predictable and his projectiles don’t exactly beat yours out. If he does teleport, block and punish. His gun super is nothing to fear, just super jump over it. Not sure what else to add, never had many issues.
Does anyone have any advice about how to deal with Rocket Raccoon as Sentinel? It feels like a really goddamn annoying match-up because of his size and instant overheads and burrowing.
I would just recommend staying in the air and making him come to you. Raccoon is a beast (see what i did there) on the ground with his burrows and instant over heads. He can instant overhead anyone, and sentinel can be instant overheaded by anyone, so thats a bad match up right there. I usually just try to take to the air. I have akuma tatsu backing me up which will eat raccoon alive. But one-on-one, i recommend flying and trying to catch him with a frying pan. After all, you just need to catch him once and sentinels most basic combo will kill him. You could also try a meaty cr.M him when he burrows, but if you guess wrong you will get comboed
Let raccoon come to you and make a mistake and you capitalize. Well I hope that helps my fellow mutant-killing-robot!
I don’t have a lotta raccoon experience, but from the little I know, never use spit, ever. Raccoon can duck it, plus he can burrow and punish you for trying, so the risk reward is non existent since its all risk pretty much. If you gonna stay on the ground use the :h: drones, they can carpet bomb the ground and protect you from his burrows. Plus I think you can get a combo if you hit him with them as well. When your airborne watch out for the log trap, it seems like it might be a nice AA against sent so be prepared to unfly when u see one coming.
Finally, just be patient, you can kill him in one combo but he can’t do the same, so just wait for that opportunity to hit him with a pan.
hey so what the hell do you guys do when you have to fight hawkeye? he is so annoying…
Well the good thing about hawkeye is that while he bodies sentinel for free from full screen, unlike some other trench coat wearing assholes, sentinel is at advantage when he is up close(at least I think so). So the first thing ill tell you is forget sent even has projectiles, they are all far far too slow and just get beat by everything hawkeye has. Second, when he has bar, be careful with everything you do, you should never whiff anything, but this goes double when fighting against hawkeye, cause that a free gimlet into w/e else he has under his sleeve. This poses a bit of an issue since one of sents biggest assets is his flight, but hawkeye can gimlet you out of the start-up. I can’t really think of an answer to this issue against a hawk eye actively looking out for your flight activations so Im just gonna say don’t do it, inch your way gradually until you have him in the corner using your assists for back-up and shit. Once you have him there, he should be free, his normals are extremely slow and he has no air mobility to speak of so unless your almost dead at this point, the match should be yours. Watch for the up back, and either cr. or air throw that shit. Hawkeye has 900k health, so learn your 900k combos and make sure that one hit you get is the only one you need.
As was the case with RR, I don’t have a lot of hawkeye experience(in fact, I don’t have any hawk eye experience) so my apologies if anything I said was incorrect, I just did a lotta theory fighter to get to this conclusion.
no activity? don’t get bopped. sentinel’s too fat for them gimmicks
How about we discuss some of them matchups against the characters from Ultimate (the 12 new guys)
I think we should discuss matchups against all characters. I know for sure Sent v RR is 6-4 in Sentinels favor because if he tries to use log trap and an assist then a reaction HSF or tiger knee’d hard drive will shut em down. Plus if he tries to burrow up behind you, then Sentinel can just use Drone Bombs to stuff him and combo with cr:m:
But it could defintely go in racoons favor being that he’s such a smaller target in general and has faster movement and we all know how weak sentinel is to IOH mixups. I mean he could do rocket skates with a follow up but Sent could just dash back/forward and do a st:m: or cr:m: to stop the shenanigans
I would agree that it is 6-4 in Sentinel’s favor, the only threats that I’m aware of the coon are the IOH’s, the burrow to avoid HSF, and his small size to avoid Sent’s pressure somewhat. More often the coon will try and zone you out, but low spits can destroy the projectiles no problem.
Also, all you really need is one poke/touch to kill him. An easy abc combo is MORE than enough to kill RR. I would advise to call assists only when safe because he can try to tag the assist with Rock 'n Roll or Log Trap.
Drones with assist calls are vital in this matchup because one bad assist call can mean heavy damage to Sentinel + solo mixups with the traps. Try to chuck stuff at him so he either burrows to “avoid” it and get tagged by :h: drones, or force him to take the fight in the air where he’s helpless, which essentially becomes like an 9-1 matchup in the sky.
Another easy matchup for Sent IMO is Ghost Rider. I feel that it’s a 7-3 matchup in Sent’s favor. Most of the time, he’ll be backed by some assists, which then easily snipe the assist with a HSF on reaction.
Also, a lot of GR’s tend to just jump :s: + assist calls, just blow them up with a Happy Birthday. If they try to be patient (aka stay full screen) then just spit+drones away because he really has nothing else that can kill you. If tries to be smart and blow through your zoning with a Spirit of Vengance, just HSF his ass because you get 450k with it since GR has hyper armor, meaning no damage scaling.
All you gotta do is just touch him with at least a 1/2 bar stocked, meanwhile he’s gonna have to hit you TWICE to get the kill.
I feel the same way about the GR match up. I remember going ft30 with a friend when he was using GR/Sent/Doom and I used Mag/Doom/Sent. He got the happy birthday in one match and it was all up to big papa pump. Some things I noted in this match up is that when Ghost Rider starts throwing out j:s: and he has missiles out when you’re close to him (at least mid screen or near the corner) you can tiger knee a hard drive and it’ll catch both him and the assist. Then afterwards, xfactor and clean up with hard drive loops.
Another thing is that when Sent is fighting GR that, Sents j:m: xx j:s: is really good in this match up is that it’s faster than ghost rider’s j:s: but you wanna get him closer to the ground for the follow up combo.
I haven’t played this matchup specifically in a while, but I find it really hard to believe that Sentinel beats GR.
With assists GR is a slight pain in the ass. W/O assists, it’s easy for Sentinel, assuming you can keep at a higher altitude that him, and you’ll be fine.
Ah ok. yeah, i agree 100 with that.
I was talking about the match up as a 1 on 1 solo, but, assists are taken into account for those who disagree with some of the things I said. Taking the matchup as a 1 on 1 though, I make the assumption that the matchup has the following parameters (1 meter, no X-Factor, Anchor battle). With assists, the characters’ matchups almost always change to make it more or less even.
Just came to say that I love the thread title.
How do you guys feel about the firebrand and strider match-ups? I don’t have any experience in either, but I actually think sentinel might do well in both. In the case of firebrand, sent can keep him honest while he is doing his air shenanigans with his j.'s since if any of them connect firebrands a dead duck. Then there’s also the fact that sentinel can escape the un-blockable uf he has a bar available, thus reducing firebrands damage output on him significantly. With that said, if firebrand gets him in the corner with cold star assist in the back I doubt he will have any issues opening sentinel up. I think its a solid even match-up.
And to open up an old argument, I actually don’t think sent vs ammy is in ammy’s favor, and if it is, its not by much. I definitely think the cries of bad match-up were very premature, ammy can’t spam cold-star if sentinel has a bar since he can easily feed her a HSF which at worst would trade with okami shuffle. When sent is airborne ammy can fake him out with a counter and shit, but on the flip side sent can just perform a low altitude :s: have it whiff and command grab her. Then there’s also the fact that almost any hit sent lands on her will lead to a very dead dog, while the opposite is not the case for ammy. The only real issue in this match-up is the fact that she can duck his spit making her very difficult to keep out.
