Bust This B*tch! The Sentinel Matchup Thread

Yeah, sent vs firebrand isnt as bad as youd think. I just feel that small mobile characters just own the big slow robot. and this is all assuming theres no assists in the mix, cus that changes things a lot.

when it comes to ammy, however, she can be a real pain to deal with. although i will always favor characters that can win with patience. ammy cant just rush in on him recklessly. she plays carefully and waits for sent to whiff something, she can easily punish him. but with her speed, size and slow super, there isnt much sent can do. Granted, if he gets that one hit in shes a dead dog, but good luck getting that one hit in. so i still think that matchup is very much in her favor.

And then theres strider. I hate him. hes too fast, i cant even react to vajra with st.m or with supers. thats another small fast character who owns the big slow robot. but again they have to hit sent 2 or 3 times, while sent needs just one touch. so its all up to the player and his skill/patience.

All these small mobile characters owning sent are the reason ive been trying to learn RR so i dont have to deal with keepaway (which sent is free to i believe) or small fast striders and zeros.

Also, sent vs teleporters sucks…

One important thing to note: VAJRA is ALWAYS THROW PUNISHABLE, even in Lv.3 X-Factor

yeah just jump upback and block then punish that shit lol

Heres one match-up everyone knows is bad but no one discusses, taskmaster. I honestly think that is in the top 5 for sentinels worst match-ups, he has a lot of the tools some of sents more infamous match-ups have, but on top of all this, he has 1.1 mill, exceptional range on his normals, can actually punish hard drive in numerous ways, and has one of the few hypers that straight up beats HSF. I hate this guy SOOOOOOOOO much, much more than wesker tbh.

I play him myself, and the way I go is to take to the skies flying around patiently, waiting for the opportunity that he makes a mistake. Once he makes a mistake trying to chip you, you move in with his cleats and bop him for trying to do something stupid.

Usually, Taskmaster tries to chip you with arrows. recognize the pattern and swoop in for some damage. Nearly all Taskmasters will panic and arrow super to make themselves safe, it’s then where you wanna Hard Drive them and hopefully hit him with a combo to get him scared.

Don’ t just throw out Hard Drive, he can counter super you on reaction. The thing is to bait him into doing a mistake and make him pay dearly for his mistake.

The key to this matchup is to have X factor on deck to kill him in a combo.

I’m having a difficult time moving in on morg/doom based teams. Has anyone had any casual experience? Online exp for me consists of chicken blocking double jumping missiles and flying around and in all I get locked down for a good 4 of the 10 seconds illusion lasts. Thing is I find a lot of wanna bes but maybe twice I felt the full bullet hell being hit 15 times and it just kept going.

If I get doom he’s gone, no questions about it. It’s just morg has a fast unfly block thing going on and the ability to do what seems like two full screen backwards air dashes is ridiculous haha.

What I’ve tried do far
H/D.H flying diagonally backwards up and zooming her way to get out of range of airborne projectiles and when I come down eleven if I’m not close to her / them I slam down s since I feel it’s a more secure projectile remover

Fly m unfly m fly unfly dash hcommand

And going for tk rp to HD

For me, it’s all about getting the right read. If I know I’m facing MorriDoom, my primary objective is to get 2 meters stocked.

The meter is used for a THC in response to Doom and kill Doom, or a Hard Drive Escape into a safe DHC.

It all really boils down to reading your opponent and getting that clean hit.

The thing is I do get the reads but It feels like… That old Indiana Jones flick where the walls start closing in with spikes on them and chance for movement becomes tighter and tighter. Maybe it’s because I haven’t been put into that predicament long enough to see through what almost seems like a hyper screen control.

This makes me consider keeping a character with a full circular dhc that eliminates all projectiles from the screen and around me. I would go into detail but that’s more of a team for sentinal evaluation.

I’ll take what you said into consideration. Now I just have to find a mor/ doom person I can get some matchup exp from.

Honestly, I think that is one of those match-ups where if you don’t have to play sentinel, just don’t, he is far far far too much of a liability in that match-up. Even his assist becomes useless against morrigan, if you have a secondary character I would advise busting them out. With all that positive stuff said, if you have no option but to play him, I would advice practicing an extreme amount of patience, rushing in trying to bop morrigan is only going to get your robot killed. Your first goal should be to kill doom as this match-up really isn’t that bad if she doesn’t have missiles, so if you have x-factor just a straight up HSF xf HSF should do the job, otherwise you just gotta keep sniping doom whenever she calls him, even if she stops calling him when you are grounded to stop you from killing doom, thats a victory in itself. Also if you have a fast horizontal assist, counter calling doom could also be effective, especially if you pair it with spit chains

The match-up once doom dies is a lot more manageable, if she even thinks about activating astral vision inside of rocket punch range you spit on that chick and feed her a rocket punch, xfactor and kill if you have it, otherwise plasma storm/HSF depending on the range. When she does get the vision started, just super-jump up, fly and rocket punch to stay in the air longer, anything to weather the storm. If she’s up close, the only thing you really need to be worried about is her shell kick as it beats sents armor, other than that, I don’t believe she should be too much of a headache.

Is there anywhere I can find information on counter assist properties for sentinal? Maybe although the others could never be as good as charging drones maybe some hold properties that are beneficial for their invulnerability or evasion vs morg doom teams when your left with the bot or whatsoever.

I’ve used the search button by the way but only can find the finger cramps hitbox and related but nothing specifically on counter assist.

What exactly do you mean by counter assists? Do you mean assists you can counter call missiles with? If thats what you mean, then any beam works, disruptor, plasma beam, unibeam, greyhound, while tatsu and shopping cart work from relatively close range, and lariat works from right next to them. Other than that, I don’t really know what you could mean by counter assists.

I mean when you press block and during you press forward assist

You’re talking about the Cross-Over Counter. It spends 1 meter to tag out your character with an assist by having them come in doing their assist attack. Some assists gain special invincibility when coming in (most DP assists, and Drones assist) but lose the invincibility early on in their attack.

I’m guessing the 2 meter reversal with Sentinel is what you’re talking about. Your other character is in danger of getting killed, so you Cross-Over Counter to Sentinel and as soon as you see him coming in, but before he touches the ground, you do Hard Drive and it will work.

I figured I would go around and post this on character forums so folks can check it out:
