Buffs required to make Sagat solid in USF4

It’s not about her dive kicks IMO.

You can’t zone her out for starters, her FB game is very good against that.
She can lock you down in the corner with one mistake
Her normals seem to be very good against Sagat’s

It’s not 7-3 imo, but it’s a hard 6-4, like the Dudley match.

Nah, serious, it’s 7-3. All of her buttons counter your low tiger in range and her two into ones with stored fireballs fuck up any type of focus attempt. Basically you’ve got two options - Block or DP. Even the tried and trusted EX tiger knee get’s beaten out be her stored fireball on reaction.

If you’re in the corner, you’re dead and trying to not get there is impossible.

She zone’s you better than you can zone her
She has better footsie than you
Her AA is simple and reliable
She can reaction TS
She does massive damage from one hit confirm with a store
Her Ultra is extremely hard to avoid when you move as fast as a fucking wheel barrow with a flat tyre.

People are too conservative with match ups in fear of getting called bad, shit is MASSIVELY in her favour. When a character negates EVERY part of your game, I’m not afraid to call it horseshit.

Well I’ve just discovered yet more bullshit with this character. Some of you might already know this, but the cancellable 2-hit stand short doesn’t actually cancel from far range. And I’m not referring to when your opponent is at the tip of your stand short and only one hit comes out. I knew that couldn’t be cancelled. But even when you are close enough to get the two hits to come out, it’s still not cancellable at a certain range.

Juri was already around 6.5/3.5 her favor when she was introduced in Super.

She is now imo a pure counter to Sagat.

What can he do to truly challenge or scare her?

Agreed…all things being equal between the actual players, Sagat loses handily to Juri. In addition to her normals etc. as highland elaborated earlier, that Feng Shui Engine is the straw that breaks the Tiger’s back. Zoning her out is impossible, Fighting her on the inside is extremely difficult.

I personally keep fireballs scarce in this fight and just focus on getting on the inside and trying to apply meaty pressure on wakeup. Try to keep those games going with tk traps and mixups till she builds enough meter and ultra, then brace myself for the onslaught when she has ultra. Once that happens, I just play as random as i can. Sometimes it may work, but you are inevitably toast most of the time.

That’s just it, you can’t consistently out play her, not if you’re faced with an opponent of equal or greater skill. You HAVE to take risks, you can’t just play the traditional “I’ll wait until you fuck up” type game.

isn’t that the case with all non grappler sagat matches right now though?..its just exacerbated by her ability to put the pressure on you and pick you apart when it comes to Juri.

Seriously considering looking into Guy. Gat will always be my main, but i just need to look into another character for those times i want to switch it up a little…and by switch it up i mean not get my behind handed to me even though i know whats coming but am not in a position to do anything about it.

If you think they are going to buff Sagat, look no further than Deejay. That guy was utter trash in AE and they made him even trashier if that’s even possible.

I think they did something to break U2 as well. I could swear that EX TS into U2 has something wrong with it. I’ve noticed it miss on Poison a few times and also Gouken once. It’s like the juggle state is shorter on some characters.

never was a real threat U2 for Gouken at least , since he can be demon flip thrown out of it on startup…So its NOT juggling em as long?

I mean when you hit him with an EX shot at full screen and try to juggle with U2. That used to work 100%. Now it seems like EX shot doesn’t always produce enough juggle for it to work.

What I would like to see done to Sagat:

-RECOVERY REDUCED FROM 15F TO 13F
-HURTBOX REDUCED IN WIDTH

Would make this a better button to use in neutral, and would give him a little more variety.

Pretty much Vanilla st.lk with less damage. Would make Sagat good again.

How this move functions currently is ridiculous, it’s just horrbile. The hitbox is WAYYYYY further back then the animation suggests, and the hurtbox is so much ahead of the hurtbox it’s always getting beaten out at mid-range. This would make it so that it at least trades.

-DAMAGE CHANGED FROM 8040 TO 4080

Not really necessary, but it just makes more sense for the 2nd hit to do more damage considering the far version isn’t special cancellable.

HIGH STEP KICK

Nerf was unnecessary, especially considering the next change that I’m suggesting.

Simultaneously buffs the move, while also making trade uppercut into U1 impossible.

He deserves this damage if he can’t trade into ultra anymore, and the sytem changes making him negative after FADC anyway.

This is just a different change that I thought would make him more fun and dynamic. It’s unnecessary though.

There, now Sagat is not only much better, but also much more dynamic and most importantly, fun to play as.

It’s interesting how they managed to fix the Ultra in the corner, but totally break it in every other way…
If they don’t fix any of the new balance issues, then they should at least fix all that is totally broken…

As stated earlier, Sagat’s buffs (besides tiger knee) are purely cosmetic and some are downright nerfs. Old ultra 1 beats this version hands down. More damage, more utility and if the wall was the problem there were numerous ways to circumvent that problem. Ultra 2 is utter garbage from a damage standpoint and when used in any scenario besides when an opponent has his feet planted on the floor is pathetic.

But hey, you get to see all the hits connect right? that should count for something.
