Buffs required to make Sagat solid in USF4

Lol, if Bonchan didn’t exist, neither would that guy.

Sagat doesn’t need nerfs, but he doesn’t need MEGATON buffs. Just some tiny pinches here n’ there.

That said, if Fuerte repeatedly gets top spots as Bonchan and Sanford Kelly repeatedly do (as I write this, Kelly just got tied for 5th at The Fall Classic), then I will also contend that while El Fuerte doesn’t need nerfs, he doesn’t need huge buffs.

Sagat was unfairly hit, absolutely, but how many top placings must Bonchan and Kelly get before you guys concede that he’s still DA KING in this game? :expressionless:

Fun fact: declaring “it’s the player that’s good, not the character” officially confirms that you guys are garbage, not Sagat.

I don’t think anyone was ever asking for mega buffs for Sagat. The buffs we asked for were simple things such s.lk working properly and revert high-TS. These changes would make Sagat a lot more well rounded (and fun), while possibly moving him up to high-mid tier. Hardly mega-buffs…

Bonchan makes Sagat look a lot better than what he is, of that there is no question. It was funny watching Xian counter pick Sagat vs Snakeyes (Zangief) during the Fall Classic, he got completely destroyed in a supposedly 8-2 matchup (Xian that is). It’s not as easy to pickup Sagat as some people think, he may not require mad execution skills, but the subtleties required for this character are something else…

You seem to say some sensible things but then throw things in like this. If you think Sagat was a top ten character in 2012 then you obviously didn’t play the game that much.

Without even thinking about it - Fei Long, Cammy, Akuma, Adon, Sakura, Seth , Viper, Ibuki, Makoto and Yun were all easily better than Sagat , then about another ten characters like - Gen/Rufus/Ryu/Rose were about the same spot as Sagat , solid mid tier with a bunch of bad matches.

I don’t know why you guys even talk about this, there is unlikely to be anymore changes. Sagat is a good character with some decent flaws, same as he always was post Vanilla. Until they either do something about his Dp damage or his lack of decent mid range footsie’s, he can never be considered a top tier character.

That’s not to say you can’t win with him, because he does have a lot of good matches, he’s just not someone I would consider a top tier character, that’s a pretty fair assessment.

Sagat is such a fucking chore to play as though. There’s very few matches left where you can just play your game. You’re the one on trial. Fuck up once (honestly even that’s unfair to say, it feels like the whole game is designed to butt-ram Sagat right now) and the opponent’s in your face abusing your slow walk speed, shitty mid-range footises, abysmal backdash, honestly lacklustre reversal options, huge hitbox etc. etc.

Sagat doesn’t even have those amazing fireballs to back it up any more. Honestly that 3 frame recovery nerf is just a slap in the face.

Who needs neutral game when you have DWU?

Capcom’s making balance changes again, hopefully with all the complaining we get some stuff back or some actual buffs this time

u do realize that just means possibly more nerfs right? I mean with how bonchan is doing in tournaments right now, everybody and their moms are yelling that gat is a top 10 character (besides us gat players) so yeah…u do get points for optimism though.

LOL, look at your quote from eventhubs…

'Ryan Hart is fraudulent like Justin Wong and Sanford Kelly. We only think they are good because they do well locally; as soon as you throw some Asians into the mix, they collapse like a house of cards.

Also, Ryan Hart’s views on Sagat are rubbish. He wasn’t nerfed; he was made fair. Bonchan has repeatedly done well at top level competition, so if Ryan can’t get on that level it’s his fault (namely since he trained in Japan).

I do agree Sagat could use some buffs, but now Sagat actually has to work for his wins, instead of just Soul Fist’ing the opponent into submission, then High Fraud Kick’ing his way to U1.

Also there’s no way he’s going to beat Luffy or Daigo so let’s hope he doesn’t ever stumble across them. He should be able to beat somebody like PR Balrog, but PR has been studying that Sagat match clearly, so who knows who Ryan can even beat (except for ChuChu, AKA “who is this player and why are we even allowing him in?”)’

You actually know very little about the character and likely the game as well.

lol, Joe aint letting nothing slide.

New patch coming out around December 14th. Any predictions for the changes they will make to Sagat (if any)?

Given Capcom’s track record, I hope the change log doesn’t look something like this:

  • Increased lower-tigershot recovery by 10 frames. (We felt Sagat was too good at controlling space)
  • Buffed s.lk, increased damage by +2, but reduced range by 10%
  • Buffed Taunt - (We felt Sagat had lost some of his intimidating presence since Vanilla).

the buffed taunt actually made me chuckle.

I think they might put his high tiger back to the original. That would be the smallest yet best buff they could give us.

At this point though , Capcom has shown ZERO love for the solid characters and more to the horse shit brigade.

Version 1.04 changes to Sagat:

-Bug fix where his throws had 1 frame shorter tech window
-U2 does 303 damage from 255 on airborn opponent

They may as well have thrown in that buff to taunt that I mentioned earlier, what an absolute joke!
They couldn’t even revert the fireball change? I mean seriously?

At least Ryu, got something to help his zoning:

**Ryu changes:

-Close standing HK increased recovery frame from 15 to 17, 3 more frames of advantage against standing opponent, 2 more frames of advantage against crouching opponent, 2nd hit is now cancellable into focus, red focus, and super
-Light Hadoken travels slower
-Heavy Hadoken travels faster**

More and more, we are seeing even the likes of Bonchan struggling to make Sagat work in his current iteration. A damage increase on U2 is nice, but it won’t change anything.

Looks like Capcom agrees with me - Sagat only needed something small.

His U2 now works as intended. Wish they’d make his U1 fully connect under all circumstances.

Hope you all are enjoying your new, awesome Sagat. Inb4 “Bonchan didn’t do well at Capcom Cup and Ryan Hart didn’t use him, therefore WHY CAN’T THEY REVERT HIGH FIRE BALL?! I WANT TO PLAY MORE BRAINLESSLY!”

lol @ playing Sagat brainlessly. You really have no idea…

all this time i have been gripping with “why the fuck didnt my tech work?” “Why the fuck was i thrown when i started my throw at the same time as his?”

I WOULD NEVER THINK I ACTUALLY HAD 1/3% LESS OF A FRAME TECH WINDOW THEN EVERYOTHER CHARACTER IN THE GAME

So they’ve gone ahead and still left the ultra 1 shit for 1.04 …

Here’s a video compilation of the glitchy ultra 1 in action. Videos are short, so give them a view.

As far as I see it, USF4 continues to get worse with every update they’ve come out with. While they can leave the horseshit characters like Dudley and El Fuerte untouched, they’ll sure as hell buff Ryu’s fireball game, and buff Rose for no good fucking reason. Meanwhile, Sagat’s 1.04 changes won’t make a slight bit of difference, he’ll still remain a weak character in USF4. There are people who don’t even play Sagat that agree that his High Tiger shot should be reverted back at the very least, but the biased people working for Capcom seem to have some sort of grudge against Sagat.

Its infuriating. I’ve pretty much stopped playing as much because of how much they’ve ruined my favorite character. And with the 1.04 changes, they’ve hammered the nails into the coffin.

Yes, there is a reason why Ryan Hart didn’t use Sagat at Capcom Cup, because he knows the character is ass tier now.

If you are about the edge of the SC bar away from the corner and ultra towards it on Poison she will fall out after the second hit. It’s pretty repeatable and happens on both sides too

Yeah, that’s really weird. Conversely, Dictator’s front throw had a 1 extra frame window to be teched by everyone.
