Buffs required to make Sagat solid in USF4

Anywhere from 5-9 EST on the weekdays and I’m on randomly on the weekends. I play it by ear on the weekends.

Lets see…

High tigershot - revert the recovery nerf on it to its standard 39 frames. If not, at least make it 40 or 41 frames of recovery, just so that we can push back other characters fireballs. (Ryu and e.Ryu springs first to mind).
Sagat should be able to push back their fireballs even if slowly, right now its ridiculous that they can fight on even ground with Sagat in the fireball war. Especially since Sagat loses up close.

Then Sagats ultra two should get at least + 30 or 40 damage, right now as all of you know im sure, we deal less damage even with all hits connecting.

Ultra one is fine I suppose, except that it doesnt seem to hit fully sometimes, that needs fixing.

if we cannot combo our standing light kick at least let us do damage with it, add 10 damage from 30 to 40 on the second hit.

Also a change that I would very much like is if we could boost the damage of the forward light step kick from 50 to 60 damage, maybe make it -2 on block then, but keep + 3 on hit.

Or maybe just entirely rework it keeping it -1 on block, then make it +1 on hit, increase the damage to 75, and make counterhits with this move sweet the opponent. I dunno that seems kinda silly. Oh well, all in all
I just want him to gain some damage back on pokes since he lost so much damage in his ultra combos…

I would say the extra frame advantage is way better to have than 10 extra damage…

We ain’t getting shit. Time to level up or bail out.

Come on you guys, the thread is called, “buffs required to make Sagat solid” isnt there going to be a small extra patch? Im aware that might just be bug fixes but still.

True. I’ve moved on to Ken and other chars lately, but damn, their buttons seem to lack weight sometimes. I still enjoy them, but Sagat is a tiger, even in this version, and the other characters are something else. Oh well.

Kind of ridiculous, but at this point I’d be happy even just to have high TS back. It wouldn’t be enough to make Sagat a threat, but at least I could be confident in my fireball game again. It’s demoralizing facing Gouken or Rose in this version. Even though I still manage to pull off the win here and there, I’m working so damn hard!

On a positive note, I’ve been absolutely destroying players who used to beat me with setups. I don’t think they know what fundamentals are. These are guys who were nearly 4000pp in AE, looking like complete rookies without their precious setups.

Unfortunately though anyone can beat scrubs, but Sagat gets really exposed verse quality players, therein lie the problem.

Yeah, I’m finding DWU fairly helpful, but isn’t it the case that DWU doesn’t work after throws and command throws though, so they still have quite a few setups?

Correct me if i’m wrong, but throws and command throws are hard knockdowns, and if im not mistaken, DWU can only be done off of hard knockdown situations. If you attempted DWU in a soft knockdown situation the characters would simply quick-rise at the pressing of the buttons.

It’s how i understand it so far…or am i missing something?

I thought it was only off sweeps and other hard KD moves strikes.

Any hard KD, if throws were out we could still safe jump. Read guys !

What I would do to buff Sagat:

Make st.hk 70+50.

Move enough damage from first hit of all tiger knees to make the second hit 50 damage.

Far st.lk second hit active frames increased by 2, recovery frames reduced by 1, damage increased to 35.

Make cl.st.mp come out from further away (and hits crouching) to allow new combos: cr.lk, cr.lk, cl.st.mp xx TU connects. Damage reduced to 70. Bnb is now 30+30+(.870+(.7120)=200, instead of 30+30+(.830)+(.7120)=168. The more forgiving range of activation also means he can use it as a pretty reliable close anti-air.

Stun increased to 1050.

These are all suggestions that I feel help Sagat in his weaker matchups without skewing his better ones much.

If they just fix his TS i’ll be ecstatic. He feels like a completely different character without it.

Glad to know Sagat still needs buffs, even though he got 2nd at Evo, 2nd at Tokyo Game Show, and 1st at GUTS (albeit, Sanford had to switch to Oni for GFs). Clearly the problem is the character, and not at all the player

just love these types of comments. great…Yun evil ryu and viper havent won any majors…lets buff them shall we?

Bonchan is the best player in the world arguably. Sagat still needs buffs.

Just like Sagat, they’ve proven their competitive worth.

Sagat does need some cleaning up here and there, but it’s a very small cleaning up job; almost everything that happened to him in Ultra made sense. He was easily top 10 in the original Japanese arcade build, bordering nearly on top 5, which says a ton given how good he was in v2012.

Sagat has been made fair in the same way that Fei Long and Cammy have been “made fair.”

Given how good he was in 2012? Dude, sagat was mid tier…what are you talking about?

And you say that in the original japanese version he was borderline top 10…like it was some kind of taboo banned thing for him to be there.

Lastly, how could you say that a 3 frame nerf to tigershot and an ultra 2 that does “full hits” with no damage are sensible adjustments?

But hey…its your opinion buddy…so yeah…rock on i guess.

He was top 10 in 2012, don’t underplay it.

Oh no his Soul Fist game became sensible, the horror. The air damage on Tiger Cannon did get absolutely demolished, so I can concur that it needs to be at least as good as Sonic Hurricane (albeit, Guile ain’t got dat 'gat damage) and that it was unfairly nerfed. As I said, he -DOES- deserve -SOME- buffs, but you can’t go crazy on a char who can zone-out a huge portion of the (largely crappy) cast and can ALSO play a significant ground game against the rest.

In other news, guess which character JUST got 2nd at USF4 Japan Nationals over such chars as Yun, Ibuki, and Evil Ryu?

Still waiting for your collective apology.

Right… we’re sorry i guess?

Can we nerf fuete now?
