I’m gonna guess with f.mk and Mach Breaker? Also, is Bryan plus on the last hit of the one two combo?

Safe pressure strings involve his jabs a lot, one two body blow (LP, MP, LP) is safe, and Gatling combo then just stopping at the third hit. One two, high kick (LP, MP, MK) is pretty safe too, but all of his one two strings are interruptible after the second hit.

His best pressure move is easily cl.MP. Gives a massive frame advantage (at least +9 on hit) has very quick start up, and can hit extremely meaty. Most of his up close pressure consists of st.LP, his new cr.LK, Kara throws, and probably sweep. He should only be up close for small amounts of time though unless he has meter, in which case snake pit tag cancels are very useful, and he can plow through single attacks with EX rekkas armor.

Other than that, Bryan is pretty much all zoning with a little bit of oki. Abuse the hell out of far st.MP, sweep, Gatling, and make sure to hit any sloppy jumps with LP fisherman.

Yeah, the third hit of his f+MK is safe on block. I believe the second hit is too, but it might be something like -4. You could also cancel into Mach breaker which still seems difficult to punish honestly, but it’s around -9.

Is sweep safe in this version?

Someone said you can link off his cLK now, but I haven’t verified it yet.

Because he’s cool as fuck and fun to play. Not everyone plays characters just because they’re good.

You can’t do f.mk,mp,lp,mp ,ff+lp off of a j.hp, the last hit of the string doesn’t connect, though if you hit them with j.hp from a forward jump or neutral jump in the corner, you can do cl.mp, cr.hp xx mk flying knee for 15 more damage (337) than f.mk,mp,lp xx Mach Breaker.

edit: After a bit more testing, I found out something very cool. If you time it correctly, off of a j.hp you can actually whiff the f.mk part of the f.mk,mp,lp,mp chain, which lets you tack on a Mach Breaker at the end which actually does one less damage than the combo I mentioned earlier off a raw j.hp, but adds on a lot more off of a tag combo or doing it later in a combo.

It’s a pretty easy link. If what Swoops said is correct, it’s at least a three frame link meaning it’s not a problem.

According to the 2013 change log, his sweep is now -9 (lol). So not at all. Also after trying for a little bit, I’m pretty sure you can’t link from his short, not even a s. or cr. jab but I’d need to see the frame data on that to be sure.

Also on another note, Bryan can do cl.mp, cr.mp, cr.mp(that’s a one frame link), cr.hk or whatever. Not entirely useful, but could help set up some sort of wake up game. Secondly, for one meter you can do:

j.hk, cl.hp, EX Snake Pit, f.mk,mp,lp,mp, Mach Breaker for 478. Very solid damage for one meter solo. (448 off of j.mk, 468 if you need a cl.mp, cr.hp to confirm, and 438 if you do both)
or Double Back Knuckle, cl.mp, cr.hp, EX Snake Pit, f.mk,mp,lp,mp, Mach Breaker for 435.

Wow, I was doing this earlier and for some reason thought it was easier than the cl.mp > cr.hp link @_@ I thought it might be the strongest hit confirm but I’ve only been playing the character for a day so I’m not sure. I think it’s pretty neat though.

Sweep is still pretty good. It’s fast, Bryan is super low to the ground, and it’s still difficult to punish if he connects at the tip. Still, I really wish they would’ve made it safe. Other characters that don’t need them have much safer sweeps.

Cr.LK links into itself.

Could someone list his best combos? theres not a combo thread yet and im really curious about Bryan. If someone could list his optimal (as of 1.6, cause thats what I have…I dont have the balance patch yet since im on PC) combos, Id really appreciate it

Combo off a boost chain (bryan coming in)
optimal punish combo (solo, no meter)
and his optimal hit confirm
tag cancel off a DP

I would really appreciate again <3

okay, i finally got to play some games with bryan and try him out in training mode

really everything that ppl said seems to be true. can’t seem to find any crazy combos, but i like his atomic slam one so that is alright with me. the f MK series juggle is a bit lame but the mach punch is a cool move.

i really like how he moves around and basically moves around at inconsistent speeds, it can really help for footsies.
mach breaker moves incredibly fast and is great for people trying to keep him out with normals
f MK step kick series is just great for getting in although i didn’t try the EX mach breaker combo after step kick series on hit
overhead is just swingin forward; it kind of sucks as a mixup (can’t really threaten low at optimal overheads ranges) but at least it is safe. the startup gets stuffed if i don’t use it at smart times, although my favorite usage of overhead is still after a jump in hohohoho
his sweep is a pretty fast startup sweep with decent range, so it’s a low option to keep them honest when i am swingin around with the overhead

far stand MP is a great poke and counter poke; i really like playing bryan even though i think he’s kind of weird. not having a reliable reversal is unfortunate, but whatever.

i can’t really find characters i like to go with bryan, the other char i’m sort of interested in that i think is good is nina and that team has no real safe tags [unless nina’s overhead works; i know it goes into a decent combo on tag]

So glad this thread is going again, I’ve switched my juri/bryan team about to bryan on point as the more I used him the more I like him. Been putting the I do in this thread to great use and it helped me win 3 in a row!

Combo off a boost chain (bryan coming in) - I believe most damaging is, st.mp, st.hp xx hk Knee - Though I just do gatling combo to mach breaker for corner push.
optimal punish combo (solo, no meter) - Optimal Punish with no Meter is cls.mp, cr.hp, xx fisherman hook, slam, cr.lp xx knee (i believe)
and his optimal hit confirm - He has a variety of hit confirms from cr.lk you can go into a fisherman hook combo, or other wise its lp,mp,lp xx fisherman hook, slam, cr.lp xx knee
tag cancel off a DP - I believe its the same has his tag…

Safe strings include the first 3 hits of gatling combo
st.lp,mp,lp
cr.lk,cls.mp (boost) safe boost string hitconfirm

Definitely Giving Bryan another shot in 2013, testing allot of different characters to pair him with.

It’s great that new people are picking the game up, and I realize that a LOT has changed with Bryan, but many of these questions were answered before in the thread, and this thread isn’t even that long so I would strongly recommend looking through the whole thing to get an idea of what you can do with Bryan, then double checking rather than asking again. I’ll try to reiterate here:
A couple of things I’ve seen so far:
“Is Bryan plus on block for x string?”
-I made a compilation of all of his tekken strings, please see that post.
“Does Bryan open people up more than Julia?”
-No. Bryan has three overheads: f + mp, knee dive, gatling combo + mp launch ender. Realistically, you won’t catch them with a naked knee dive. You may catch them with a random f + mp interspersed into your block string, but there’s no reason you should ever catch them with a mp launch ender from a blocked gatling when they can either reversal or alpha counter (or even backdash).
-One change that they made between the two is that Julia used to have an extremely fast half screen super as a punisher, to the point where I would consider it in many ways to be a full screen punish since its range mostly ignored block pushback. Her super doesn’t have the speed anymore, which means that a huge difference between the two is their supers. Bryan appears to be the only one in the game with a full screen super.
“Why play Bryan?”
-I think Bryan’s character is very identifiable. Sometimes you just want to wreck something. Bryan isn’t very good, he has been nerfed pretty hard since he came out as DLC so if you’re looking for something like top 10 he’s not up there.
-Full screen punish.
“Who does Bryan pair well with?”
-He doesn’t have exceptional partners because of his average damage, limited juggle capabilities and limited tag set up capabilities. If you pick Bryan you’re going to be playing two characters rather than a synergistic team.
“What are Bryan’s safe tag cancels?”
-I made a compilation of his most common tag cancels many pages back, but suffice to say if you get a midair mach breaker or any wall bounce you can safely tag out. He has no safe block cancels.
-Regular mach breaker is still not safe, even with the removal of Julia’s 1 frame super, but it’s less likely opponents will try a roll now with nerfs to the roll.

^was actually thinking the same thing but I had time so I figure meh, ahaha.

I know Snake pit tag canceling isn’t a 100% safe but does it at least get the first person in if they block? Also one way I like to tag in is to just launch of Fisherman Hook->Slam, I don’t use it that much cause Im usually looking to boost into Paul (dat damage)

I think snake pit has enough block stun to get your partner in blocking, but Bryan can be punished as can your partner if you do a move. If you have a teleport you can get in kinda safely by doing a crossup teleport with your partner, that way the opponent is turned around so they can’t hit Bryan and it throws their timing off because snake pit has a long blockstun and teleports have invulnerability for a time. You can still be punished for this, it’s more of a shenanigan like Hworang’s hk hunting hawk tag cancel.
