If that’s true, wouldn’t Nova be considered a short-burst character? Doesn’t really do extended combos, but does alot of power in small combos that end with hyper combo?
I can understand that, the only reason I’d kind of want Ms. Marvel is because of projectile absorbing. Kind of a shame they gave the projectile counter to Strange since it’d be perfect for her or Bishop.
Could you fly cancel any of the specials?
I was thinking use fly after wallbounce to get some hits in before a jS smackdown. THen using Nova’s 50ish OTG’s combined with assists for some Dante/Viper style OTG nonsense.
I liked Jubilee back in the day for the story dynamic she brought to the X-Men, or at least the venue I followed her in: The 90s X-Men cartoon. She had a lot of the same “will flagrantly ignore authority if I damn well feel like it” thing that Wolverine did, except she was generally sociable and cooperative. Even her tendency to ignore authority was mostly rooted in an interest to either be herself, or to help someone that others were ignoring. I somewhat recall an episode where she was the only one who understood that the X-Men’s insistence on being needlessly firm with… was it Angel, or Iceman(?), was causing problems.
I forget which, but one of them visited the X-Men and was promptly driven away by their constant “follow orders” spiel when it was completely unjustified on the part of the X-Men. Jubilee was the only one who really tried to help him, and Professor Xavier even admitted near the end of the episode that she was absolutely right in what she did. It struck a positive chord with me, and I liked her. To hear that she has since been depowered, and now turned into a vampire (I’m told she has all the traditional weaknesses, like having to avoid the sun and must drink human blood every so often?) is a little “Well, that sucks.”
To return to the topic of combos, what you’ve outlined sounds plausible to me. It even sounds like a decent enough combo to start with. I’m definitely looking forward to playing Nova, even if my understanding of him as a comic character is limited to “He’s a space-cop of some sort… right?” and so on.
jak d ripr: I’m interested too. Admittedly, I got my second favorite color scheme (red with gold secondary) already, so the only way they can really top it for me is a white (gold secondary) color set. I’m hoping for it, but won’t be disappointed if it’s not there. Perhaps that purple and gold alt someone else wanted will be in; I think that’d look good on Nova’s form.
Actually she is more interesting as a vampire, before she was just a lesser 90’s kitty pryde. All IMO (though not a unpopular one)
Huh. Enlighten me? Insofar as you can without derailing a Nova thread too much, anyway. What’s she up to now? Last I’d heard, in vague detail from someone, vampire-Jubilee was just being held in some underground facility for her safety.
I didn’t mean to sound like I was attacking you, I just used jubilee as a reference for a convo I hadwith another person. I def don’t expect people to read comics like I do, but that day, that guy just got on my nerves lol
In regards to combos, I didn’t try flight cancelling any of his specials, which now that I’m home makes me feel really dumb. I was trying to come up with as many combo’s that avoided j.S for the sake of damage scaling and hit stun. Plus, I was seeing how he worked with chris most of the time
Quite alright. No harm done, and it has apparently lead to… or may yet lead to, “Jubilee’s getting shafted in story matters!” “Well, she was… but now they’re going to…” and I’m waiting to hear what’s happening with her. Who knows, maybe I’ll get back into comics based on what I hear.
Hanging with x-23,helping her with some emotional stuff or something. Not really following her(poor) but her personality has become its own,and she has had to deal with the whole vampire thing, giving something unique in the xmen world. The main reason she has gotten better is she has gotten over being a 90’s kitty pryde(it was her original purpose) but more annoying and having less character development. Now she has gotten her own shtick and character development so i find that a improvement.
As a quick aside from this thread, if you want to see if comics are worth it, you should pick up The Thanos Imperative (which has our very own Nova being a boss) as well as Uncanny X-Force, which is imo the best marvel series out right now.
Jubilee is X-23’s big sister figure while Gambit is X-23’s big brother figure. They all go pretty well together.
I wanted to read a comic with Nova, but there’s several options. I read Taskmaster’s mini when he was still just part of a leak, and a while before that I read Defenders mini for Dormammu (then started Immortal Iron Fist, but still need to finish that, and Iron Fist is actually in the game now). I don’t know where to start with Nova, without having to spend too much time. Interested in Annihilation, though, unless Thanos Imperative would be better.
Start with annihilation.Thanos imperitave is (until later this year) a end point
Annihilation. Read it. Love it.
You only need bother with the main arc, not the tie ins.
I posted a reading list for Cosmic Marvel awhile back, you should check that out. Take my advice and just skip the Silver Surfer and Ronan tie-ins for Annihilation though. Just read Nova, Skrull, and the main books and you’re good.
Actually, I guess reading the Defenders was also for my desire to see Strange and interest in Namor, not Just Dormammu.
I guess I’ll get started on this, then (after I get Iron Fist out of the way, being 11 issues in). Thanks.
Yeah, that thing would be helpful.
Sorry to join in late…But I have a question. I’m probably going to end up using Nova, but I’m a bit confused. Seth Killian has said that Nova has 2 supers that will drain his red health right? I’m pretty sure he said that in the demonstration. The beam and the super skrull esque ultra. But in the trailer, the super skrull ish ultra did not lose it’s red health. Was this just a bug, or did I misinterpret the demo?
Combo thoughts for those who might be in a position to test them:
After the Wall Bounce, fly and ADDF, you might be able to sneak an extra hit in for a bit more damage/meter.
Try using Spencer’s slant shot. It forces stand which can let you re crumple. That combined with his groundbounce OTG should let Nova do quite a bit of hitstun-free damage.
^That’s sounds pretty cool. Lemme know how it works.
And btw, I’ve found the transcript: http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2011/oct/13/phoenix-wright-nova-transcript-seth-killians-demo/ <-Scroll down a tad.
And here’s Nova’s reveal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3qsjIFAz_0 <-Fast forward to about 0:40.
Notice his red health doesn’t drain. Someone let Seth know ASAP.
I don’t remember the Skrull tie-in that well, so I can’t comment on its importance to the overall plot, but the Nova tie-in is a must read. Not just because of continuity, but because it ROCKS. And the Annihilation main book is basically the quintessence of awesomeness.
