anybody dropping any character that long will be rusty
but I doubt he’ll maintain top blanka even if he continue playing his decisions on certain stuff is questionable… Just saw first match against poongko despite the fact he won fist game… It makes no sense why he’s continuing ball combos knowing perfectly well it’s gonna get punished and gives him ass position afterwards…
There are obvious stuff you can learn from Mizo but the fact he didn’t really learn and adapt from his mistakes shows that it’s not about how long he didn’t play it just shows he’s not capable of making smart decisions
I’m not expecting him to win poongko but like Josh P said: he upballed 4 times in a row when he’s corner knowing poongko is fully capable of punishing it… That to me got nothing to do with how long you haven’t played it’s called being ‘mizoterrible’… If he’d tried doing other stuff but still fail I wouldn’t rant about him much but seriously it’s not the first time I’ve seen or heard him doing stuff like that… And this was even back in vanilla when he was regarded the best…
LOL @ shitty SRK players talking shit about Mizoteru.
Mizoteru has been a top player in Japan for over 5 years now… That’s the problem with SRK, and all these video threads (as I’ve learned since I started posting up videos in almost every character forum). Players just wanna critique everything… pick apart every mistake… every questionable decision… every execution error… instead of actually trying to learn anything.
Everyone wants to make themselves feel good about their damn selves, while watching the video, so they point out every little mistake, then pretend that they would never make these mistakes, or decisions. It’s a joke.
Even if there are errors, and shitty decisions, there is still plenty to learn.
Also, most of the matches you guys watch are online fights… maybe not everyone takes them all that seriously… maybe they’re testing stuff… maybe they’re trying to figure something out… what do you know? People need to get off their high horse (located conveniently behind their keyboards). You’re not really impressing anyone.
I gotta say I agree, a lot of this is just a form of stroking your own ego. Still, you can find good bits of info scattered throughout and some people are really helpful in the process.
I think poongko is just THAT good, and most likely much more familiar with the matchup - - seth isnt very popular at all in japan, so pgko was more familiar with the matchup and situations he used to his advantage to steer the matches his way.
I feel using blanka is all about owning the direction of the battle by controlling space and introducing fear by making your opp wonder/think about what YOU will do to take THEM out of thier style of play, but you cant get there unless you can initiate or create space. Poonkgo took that way from mizo. Without that, you just have the reason why everyone else sees blanka as low tier crap.
That, and I PERSONALLY wouldnt have upballed so much in the corner…lolol j/k:wgrin:
So yea, we are all shitty, but if u didnt recognize, we learn by pointing out mizoterribles mistakes.
What brilliant decision wasnt learned from the failure of others? Now i know that seth has a million ways to punish upball, and it only took mizoterribles fifty kajillion upballs for me to figure that out.
And of course tbere are other things to learn, but the point is that people should be a bit ok with some playful shit talk, especially when the play is obviously terrible.
And while you toss rocks at the poor blanka players pathetic houses, you aint got shit to talk about either. I aint heard of u winnin any big shit, so frankly get off the blanka lawn as we growl in your general direction! Besides i HAVE travelled and won a couple tournaments this year, makin some decent cash in the process. I suck as well, and dont really care if people wanna shit talk, but chances are I have a chance to beat absolutely anyone.
I just watched 30 mins of the vid… saw the consecutive 4 upballs… wasn’t bad as i imagine… but it was hard to watch because he was leading by soooooo much and he wanted to finish seth off with upballs but failed…
Seth as expected… did some crazy mixup that gives everyone problems… Obviously i did see some stuff that i can learn from Mizo… while other stuff i can’t bare to watch… but one thing that confuses me a bit why doesn’t he do electricity combos? I only see him do ambigous hop -> electricity… but never a combo that ends in electricity makes me wonder if he’s just so rusty that he doesn’t trust his piano skills or is he purposely aware of this? i haven’t seen the other hour and half so i have no idea.
as for what HAV said… welcome to the internet… what else is new? But he obviously didn’t really read our comments… just know that we’re ‘talking shit’… just jumping into conclusion and ranting off on what he thinks of us as haters I don’t know if that’s much better than the people he’s describing.
Since im in the mood, a list of things mizoterrible did extremely well with.
Punishing uppercuts with ultra. Too often people do weak punishes. In almost every whiffed uppercut i saw, mizoterrible was able to puish with ultra. Small point, yet good reminder.
Often, poongko did safejump or just jump setups into divekicks where ex upball would whiff completely and go to other side of stage. In response, mizoterrible used lk upball and often had very good results, when used as anti-air.
So in a span of a couple minutes, from 1 hr 24 min (maybe a little b4) to 1hr 26 min, twice mizo hit crossup ultra setups on poonkgo. In the first attempt, ultra hit only once, and seth bounced behind. Second ultra the ultra hit twice, and then seth fell out.
Makes me think crossup ultra setups might not ever do full damage on seth. could be character specific.
HAV does have a point to an extent. It’s like Daigo said way back in that interview about his replays. He said when he read some of the comments on some of the mistakes he made in his matches, he’d always end up thinking to himself “Why are they focusing so hard on THAT!?” . It’s just the nature of the internet I guess.
But Mizoteru really did make some really WTF choices. I literally said out loud “why the fuck would you do that?” several times while watching some of the earlier matches. I thought maybe he thought he would stun Seth, but it didn’t really make sense. I guess the point is though that if it’s an obvious mistake, why spend a lot of time talking about it? I’m not gonna pay to much attention to these matches though. It’s cool to see him play Blanka again but it doesn’t really look like he was trying to play seriously.
you guys should know better. now ves has a point that taking a year off can ruin your blanka game (i can testify to this) but mizo’s blanka is still damn good.
I remember when I used to watch mizo vids when Blanka was his main that he never used electricity much and did a lot of ball combos. In fact, I remember wondering if he could even do walking elec consistently. But mizo’s strength has always been crazy spacing/zoning/footsies/overall strategy. He takes a shenanigan character and excels by playing safe. If you were to combine mizo’s strats (prime mizo) with TSRAI’s execution, you’d end up with the best Blanka ever.
Nah, he’d just sit on the other side of the screen hitting cr.mp or whatever. He’d never be in position to land the stuff that T SRAI does.
Nishikin has that Mizoteru patience, and much better execution, and I think he’s pretty much what Blanka players should aspire to be. I don’t think he’s quite as smart or has as good of spacing, but he’s still so good.
Taku is a different style but he has really really good execution, he doesn’t put it on display as often as T SRAI, but Taku can do anything Blanka is capable of combo wise and do it confidently. If you were to make a fusion of T SRAI’s best qualities and an actual good player, you’d get Taku.
T SRAI’s biggest thing he has going for him isn’t execution anyways, it’s setups. He puts himself in position to whiff punish a lot of things, and he has a lot of ambiguous jumping stuff(the good blanka mixups) that people don’t really pay attention to. They just see short x 3 ultra, or short x2, jab x2 xx ball xx super and see that as the player. He’s pretty mentally weak though and he breaks down if he gets behind or loses a round.
Mizoteru in Vanilla >> NISHIKIN >> Taku >>>>>> T SRAI
What we have to compare T SRAI to other ? Nothing, T SRAI only did XBL matchs and no offline, no important tournament or something so he is far to being comparable to them i think.
Taku is a beast, but my fav blanka of all time and the one I consider the best is FAX Gimoto. Good execution, displays patience when necessary and also adept at shenanigans. Taku actually reminds me of FAX a lot, but FAX wins out for nostalgic reasons.
I disagree with TSRAI’s execution not being TSRAI’s main skill. If you watch his inputs, he plinks most everything perfectly. It is hard to compare the level of execution of other Top Blanka’s though because a lot of TSRAI’s stuff is high risk/medium reward and frankly not the risk, and other Top Blanka’s don’t take the risk. You could argue however that if a Blanka player did have perfect execution/better than TSRAI, he would cr. lk hit confirm into ultra every match. On that note, I was disappointed when Nishikin missed his hit confirm ultra on Taku in their match. I wanted to see how it would play out.
Mullah: Look at the video again. Seth’s punish to a hit blocked ball did way more damage than the upball when in the corner, and when not in the corner it seemed about even, or too close to call, and lets not forget how seth’s punish put him in great position for pressure. Only seems worth it if upball would kill.
Tick death = trying to kill someone through special block damage. Mizo would often lose rounds because he would just try to do block damage with special move shinanigans and get raped for it.
While you may think jab elec is overrated, to see the stuff mizo was doing, which often involved just sitting in one location, I would have preferred to see some more jab elec. Thats kinda the bait to force seth to do more random uppercuts. But if you never throw it out at all, it cant be bait for anything. Its funny though, but of all the big japanese blankas, mizo has rarely ever done walk up jab elec pressure, so either A: he dont like it, or B: he has execution problems doing it every time, or C: he just dont care. Whatevers.
And regarding the anti-airs. Certainly internet lag could be a problem, and yes blanka dont have an srk, but blanka does have a lot of options to anti air seth crazy shit. lp upball (which thankfully mizo did start to put to good effect) and just simple avoidance, getting awway. Often, blanka just took the block, putting him into block stun, allowing seth to do crazy shit.
So my point, to reiterate, for the third time i think, is not purely to call mizoterrible terrible (which has, I admit, not gotten old yet, gimme another week or so) but to learn from mizoterribles mistakes.
