Mullah gets it. I would comment further but he has it.
jab electricity is much needed… it’s kinda like what Josh P says you kinda need it to bait the DP to come out… and i don’t think you can be interrupted between jab and hp electricity unless you cancel it too late… and lets say you’re right and i didn’t know even when cancelling at the first possible frame… cancelling it into MP electricity or even LP electricity is still good.
Blanka NEEDS the frame advantage because he doesn’t really have a true block string that’s completely safe without it…
it’s the same as wake up… you’re more or less guaranteed nothing on wake up on like lets say ryu… he can either tech, block or dp you… but it doesn’t make wake up situation is ‘overrated’…
frame advantage just gives you a slight advantage for frame traps, block string and baits which is easier to setup compared to other scenarios… so i don’t see what’s so ‘overrated’ about jab to electricity…
when you limit your own options you make yourself more predictable… and when you make yourself more predictable it’s much easier for an opponent to beat.

Shizuoka Saikyo for me. He was basically my inspiration to continue playing with Blanka. This is still my favourite set of Blanka mirror matches:
I think Taku’s strength is his yomi. He does a lot of unsafe shit with Blanka but he gets away with it because he seems to be very good at reading the opponent. I’ve seen him do dumb shit like fullscreen U2 vs Ken but he gets away with it because his opponent didn’t know how to punish. He’s entertaining to watch and even though he’s considered to be the top Blanka, I feel like I learn more from other Blanka players (not that I’d skimp on of the details in his matches). Yomi isn’t really something you can learn from watching vids.
i had that set i had on my ipod and i used to watch it every day on the train to work, as well as some matches of a blanka vs 2 rufus’s and a viper. that was way before sfiv was released in europe! good times
These mirror matches are quite amazing… both players are pretty aggressive yet both players know the match up well… i’m quite impress because when i usually play Blanka vs blanka… i tend to end up more defensive compared to most of my other matchups.

On the jab xx fierce electricity point, it’s a true blockstring… most of the time. At max range the electricity will sometimes make contact on frame 12 or even frame 14. It’s character specific too.
YAY
Ves ill never figure out how u know all this stuff, but I’m glad you do.
I’ve watched the mizo v poongko video again. I’ve come to now believe, this cant possibly be mizo due to the million repeated mistakes over and over again. I would like to think that a good blanka player never forgets the basics (yea yea, im dreaming, but I can hope).
Other problems that others should never ever ever repeat.

Using focus as an anti-air, DONT DO IT. He does it numerous times, sometimes seth would even go behind the focus, so the focus completely whiffs. More often than not, when blanka focused, he got punished bad for it.
-
I double checked on the damage of the multi-hit leggy thingy from seth for punish after upball. Assuming seth is using fk one, which i believe he is because he has so much time, he is putting out 20*13 (260???) damage compared to blanka’s 120 or so. Yea, ok, so upball = shit.
-
Jab electricity is a must. Often times, mizo just couldnt apply pressure, and even on whif punishes, sometimes he would just do low mk, and then nothing else, like he was trying to link maybe a jab into ball but fucked up. When in doubt, jab elec (or standing short elec for slightly more damage) is a relatively easy, guaranteed combo (its a 2 in 1, no links necessary) that does really good damage and sets up a decent wakeup attack if played right.

Please oh god, everyone, learn to STAY MOBILE. I understand the wall, downback approach has its place in certain moments. BUT, I think a much smarter, better turtler looks aggressive and stays mobile while still not actually taking risks and putting himself out there. Especially a character like seth, but many others as well, if you stay in place, and try to turtle, they are on your ass and its over.
-
If you land a super combo, please dont try to use ultra for an ambiguous setup. Mizo did it a gajillion times near the end. All of them were crossups, and all were blocked then punished. In Vanilla, it was possible to make ultra crossup very ambiguous, but from super on, the forward distance of blankas ultra increased a bit, and now its really really hard to make ultra crossup ambiguous as it almost always crosses up. I understaand the hail merry approach, but the guaranteed knockdown of a super, or a throw, is best used for some crossup setup with low shorts or a jump fierce to make a DP autocorrect the wrong way. Especially against seth, where if he has a quarter life thats basically a jab elec to kill, Hail merry = giving up, whereas just holding your own for a bit longer and looking for that one more combo could be all it takes.

Seth ultra 2 cannot be avoided if seth is in chip range. I saw mizo use ultra, ex ball (i was shocked this didnt go through the ultra, i guess seth ultra 2 aint a projectile), upball, the whole nine. Nothing worked. So if seth is chipping your ass, well, the lesson is dont get in range to be chipped to death. See #4.
Ok, thats it for now, wild ravings aside.
One last thing, regarding jab elec as blockstrings. One exception (though not really) is if you do jab~FP elec on a stale focus (meaning the focus has been held for a moment cuz your reaction was a little slow) the focus attack can often hit blanka before the FP electricity comes out. Against focus, I recommend doing jab into jab or strong elec, or just jab into hop, unless your reaction is fast and u jab fp elec right after they focus.
Does anyone here play on PC?If so,can anyone play vs this guy in a FT5 or FT10 and upload the replays?I just want to see how other Blanka players would play vs this Cody player.
These matches were from 3 weeks ago.Right now this Cody player has almost 5000 pp.From all the players I have played so far in SSF4 I would rate him from skill lvl as strong as GeoM MoDInside,Moshtaba and Pikachuakuma.
I’m good at training mode. I noticed this because I had a jab elec string that looked weird recorded and I could dp it. Then if I took a tiny step forward I couldn’t. So I played around with it. It’s just weird stuff like that. I try to do one random thing in training mode and try to learn something from it.
It does 150, then the stomp followup in corner is 125ish, yeah it’s just not smart.
Depends on spacing. Late u1 can outright beat seth’s u2, and if you are close enough you can get a double whiff situation with ex upball. Poongko has good spacing though generally.
I think jab xx lp elec is the best choice here, or jab xx hop. The latter is probably the safest, but you don’t get the most damage.
Will watch this in a minute, watched the first match, didn’t see anything exceptional. Both of you don’t know the matchup.
Okay stopped watching 5 minutes in, neither of you know the match and both are playing horrible. So much unsafe stuff. Both of you have a free ultra punish over and over and aren’t taking it. You aren’t using backthrow. You don’t know each other’s frame data. It’s just bad play on both sides.
Why do you play Blanka like that?
I agree with you, but why so much people enjoy his Blanka ? Look at the comments in the video, look his channel damn, i don’t understand, because Blanka is misunderstood again today ?
Regardless of what anyone may say, blanka is a unique character, looks badass, and can electrocute the shit outta people.
Required watching imo.
He releases a lot of content, thus he’s popular. It’s really not complicated. I prefer his Ken/Guile. More people know who he is than Nishikin is though which is sort of a shame.
Veserius, you do play on 360 right?I think this Cody player does also play on 360.
It is ok to receive feedback, but I think you should add this guy and play vs him.He is really strong.
It is always easy to criticize a replay, but playing vs someone on this lvl is difficult and I wouldn’t have said that he was on the same skill lvl like GeoM MoDInside or Moshtaba who is considered as the strongest Sagat on consoles,if I haven’t played this Cody player often enough.Really anyone who played this guy feel free to upload a set because I want to see how other Blanka players play vs this Cody player.
And besides Veserius, feel free to take a look at this (it is replay 2 and 3 Sagat vs Blanka):
I do always receive negative feedback from you and you do also say that the other players are bad in these replays, but really play vs these guys to see how strong they really are.
You are right that I never changed the way I have been playing Blanka and maybe I should just give up this character?Take a last look at these matches vs that Sagat player and tell me how you would rate my Blanka.Would you say my Blanka is that bad?
Lastly,I have uploaded sets on my channel vs all these players in this video and most of these players are really good.I am doing well vs anyone of these players as Blanka with the way I have been playing.
This is probably the last post from me here in the Blanka forums.I think I even remember why I stopped posting here long time ago, mainly because nothing I post or upload (Blanka related) is good because everything I do as Blanka and the way I have been playing Blanka is wrong.
Anyway, thank you for the feedback once again.
I’m not saying he’s not a strong player
Basically my point is that NEITHER of you are playing the matchup correctly and are making suboptimal decision repeatedly. Not like little decisions like "oh I should be using cr.strong instead of st.strong cause it handles this normals hitbox better and trades less. It’s like theres a free ultra, then 5 seconds later another. And yeah sometimes you miss the ultra punish, but it’s obvious that neither of you know about what is/isn’t safe. Not backthrowing Cody shows you aren’t up to date on the Blanka vs. Cody metagame because you don’t know about the setup vs. him.
Also I’ve seen Moshtaba play, he blows this Cody away.
You say that like I don’t play against top players ever both offline and on.
I see sagat getting hit by point blanka ex upballs with ultra stocked and not ultraing them. I do that, you know how good my Sagat is? It’s terrible. But I know the matchup. You aren’t respecting the ultra(or kara tiger uppercut punish on block), and Sagat isn’t using it. How can I even assess a match where one of the key aspects of it is being completely ignored?
I can roll players who are better than me and don’t know the matchup. I’ve done it repeatedly. I’m watching these replays and I’m not seeing exceptional players. I’m seeing players around your skill level who you are doing solid against. Which is good, Blanka is hard to win with, but when the other people don’t know the matchup it becomes much much easier.
Don’t be a whiny bitch. It’s not like I’m going out of my way to attack you, you posted your vid, I commented on it. If you can’t take negative feedback you’ll never be as good of a player as you THINK you are.You aren’t playing the matchup correctly, what the hell am I supposed to say? Oh nice missed ultra at (insert timestamp)? I could respect your play more if you were at least TRYING to do these things and simply had an executional failure or something, but you are playing completely unaware.
What have you contributed to Blankas gameplay? What do you do that is unique above and beyond what everyone else is doing with the character? You want to know? NOTHING. You are still doing the same gimmicky, unsafe on hit bullshit Blanka players were doing 3 years ago, and you are refusing to acknowledge that maybe thats the wrong way to play the character.
Go ahead and leave this section, you’ve contributed nothing that won’t be missed. Comeback compilations, Funny and Cool Moments, seem to be more to your strengths.
And don’t be a passive-aggressive whiner. Spare the sarcasm.
You just need training Liang, learn the Blanka’s basics.
Don’t get upset, it’s just good constructive criticisms.
Maybe we should just show step by step what could be optimized, punished and otherwise improved in one of his videos.
It’s how I evaluate myself. I see where I am getting my damage from, what is causing me to take damage, what can I do to improve either, and what gimmicks are working.
I notice not jumping occasionally or using roll to shut down rush moves can totally mess my game up.
General advice: Giving the opponent lots of things to worry about makes them take thinking away from their offense. Go crazy with Blanka, just try to be safe about it and mix it up.

normally b.throw, dash, j.whatever doesn’t crossup on deejay, gotokaffy walked in after the dash to cause the crossup. Pretty smart.
ROFL ves gets so uptight sometimes.
