I was having a lot of fun with Ultra Blanka until I did a jump in with j.HP and my combo whiffed.
He’s better overall I think, the c.MK pushback change is still stupid, its not as bad as I thought it was. Most substantial buffs are close standing MK being airborne on frame three, and up ball being FADCable. I kept doing it over and over again in casuals because I just wanted to do what it feels like to be an idiot and never commit to your reversals (feels pretty good!) Your mixups after jab electricity are better now cause of the cls.mk buff. Red focus is neat and gives you much better combos. HP Ball Knocking down means certain matchups are less horseshit now, but the characters that buff mattered against are now better than Blanka anyway.
Blanka still isn’t good. Like you still have to work WAY harder than the opponent and use more resources to do damage. He’s overall less terrible, or better I guess. He’s still bad but this is arguably the best version of the character since Super.
Delayed wakeup makes a lot of your setups less effective, but it does the same thing to every other character, so this isn’t really a net nerf to Blanka. Overall I like delayed wakeup a lot but its still just a band aid fix for the games problems that won’t matter once people just have an additional canned setup to deal with delayed wakeup.
I also ended up playing Viscant in tournament TWICE and he beat me both times. They were close matches though, and while watching me play he said “wow good shit” after I did some overhead, Ultra setups in matches against other people. Went 2-2 in Ultra and Viscant advanced in winners. Senpai noticed me guys ;_;
Ultra Blanka is probably easier to win with now, but not really by that much. He just has bare minimum shit other characters have had forever, like two in ones that don’t get you killed on hit and actual damage output from focus cancels. Honestly this is as good as this character is ever gonna be without the complete redesign he desperately needs. Like he has shit that he should have had one, two iterations ago, and everyone else who was already good got better, so his buffs don’t really matter that much.
Good point ves. I forgot to mention that when I had a 6 button stick, I rarely did jab into elec, I would use crouch lk, or crouch mk, because the inputs were super easy: crouch lk~hp~mp~lp~mp~hp.
Only issue is I found that crouch short into elec would whiff a lot when u just walked up and did it, whereas the standing lp pushes blanka forward a bit and helps make sure he hits opp.
problem with jab to fp elec with 3 buttons is you need to do that flick correctly. Go to practice mode and see how often yer 5th button is fp…I always got a lot of mp until i mastered that flick. The electricity comes out most of the time, but its difficult to make it fp consistently
We both played it how you should, so so lame its a miracle neither of us died of boredom. Punish stuff with slide because that’s your only punish, used the stupid safe jump setup to make EX up ball work that only really gives you a slide punish, etc.
It’s a hot topic, but SELECT is a button that already exists in the stick, you are only changing its placement. Two directional inputs in one button it’s not a real thing in any normal controller…
Not to mention that back/select plinking only works because the SFIV engine accepts it and gives you an advantage for doing so, but binding two direcional inputs in one button is an universal solution, that doesn’t deppend on the game and it’s far worse in my opinion
BTW: I think that back/select plinking should be removed from the game, but that’s up to Capcom to do it
