While it’s nice for them to work the origin of the music into the game’s story I still would’ve preferred they used more music from the classical era. Hearing Mozart’s Requiem was really the only time I stopped playing to absorb the game’s atmosphere that wasn’t graphics related. Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata 1st movement would’ve been nice… or anything by Tchaikovsky.
That wouldn’t have fit the theme of Columbia being a city of the future tho. I like that they took the modern stuff and made it retro. The rendition of God Only Knows for example is great.
nice use of Hiesenburg uncertianty principle, and Schrodigner’s Cat’s to tie it all up nicely.
It was obvious after the fact to. Even though he knew where he was and even though he knew what he did, he wasn’t always quite sure if he was there or he wasn’t there. Just because the action was observed, it was impossible to be certain that said action was actually observed.
And then the ending, what a way to use Schrodinger’s Cat and tying it up with that ending. Holy shit man, that was some BRAVO level shit right there.
Because of the fact that he actually attended the baptism, there where two possible outcomes. Does he go through, or he doesn’t. It didn’t matter what the choice was, since he was presented with a choice, both choices can be observed, thus both valid, thus they both happened. Because of this, the only way to end it, was to eliminate that scenario. and the only way to go about doing that was to kill himself at that point in time (more like destroy that memory so that the brain could manufacture new memories in place) so that the choice was never presented, thus Schrodinger’s Cat postulate could not be observed. Because he wasn’t there ever, there was no choice, therefore, all realities that where spawned after that choice where eliminated.
I also like how Infinite can be an alternative reality to Bioshock 1.
Both sent there against their will, or manipulated into coming to said city, both ideal cities, both suffering from the same strife, both saving girls from a twisted and rusting community.
really smart intutive game
only problem was that I didn’t really find myself needing to use the Vigor’s, maybe that will change in 1999 mode.
It’s strictly a personal preference of mine. Yes, it fits thematically but I’ve always preferred listening to orchestrated or original music composed for a game over licensed works. It’s the RPG effect.
Some of the vigors are too overpowered not to use, especially at end game where one vigor gets you invulnerability for a short time frame and on top of that there’s a charge upgrade that refills your shield.
In 1999 mode, the biggest piss off for me was that possession fails to work on anyone except the the automated mechs, forcing you to actually play the game. Here’s a tip, max out shield then try to upgrade salt meter as health get emptied out quickly in 1999 mode. You’ll first have to beat the first fire man to get to your first save point though…get ready to run around and empty 3 hand gun clips into him because he doesn’t go down and he’s very scary yelling incoherent shit and throwing balls of rock everywhere. Even with 100% health one rock will bring you down to near-death and the next one kills you.
“Playing Infinite, I realize that Halo-style recharging shields are actually a huge mistake in shooter design. But all shooters use them now. Since people are going to ask: There are two problems; one is about emotional pacing, one is about gameplay crispness and fairness. With shields, you are always doing okay in the medium and long term. They low-pass filter the emotional high of surviving a tight situation. The crispness problem is: In order to provide difficulty, designers now have to overwhelm your shields all the time, which means designing situations that are spammy (get hit from all directions so you can’t process what is going on). These are confusing and not fun. These feel messy to play but they happen all the time because they have to. Or, like Infinite does, have super attacks that take away all your shields at once and 1/3 of your health, which feels steeply unfair. With shields, you are always doing okay in the medium and long term. Also, shields train the player to ignore getting hit most of the time, which becomes grating at the end when guys start hitting hard. (You trained the players for one thing but then gave them another!) I think shooters are much stronger experiences when it matters if you got hit. In shield games you get hit all the time, like flies buzzing. You can have a tight situation on the order of 10 seconds, but not on the order of 5 minutes, which matters more. Yeah. I think there is nothing wrong with 30 seconds of fun, if one doesn’t forget 5 minutes of fun, 1 hour and 5 hours.”
I don’t have BI yet nor will I until it gets a steam sale, but IMO regenerating health, health pickups, and a hybrid of the two all have their applications depending on the game rather than 1 system being inherently “better” than the others.
I agree. I think they both have a place, and it’s simply a case of most devs misusing them. i think the sheilding systems works in Bioshock Infinite as the combat in the game is purposefully designed to be chaotic and high pace, but the upgrade system for the HUD meters also lets you tailor how much of an impact something like shields has on your experience.
I rarely used Charge at all, mostly shock and long range guns. Maybe I should upgrade Charge and play with that more on the second playthrough. Anyone know what all 8 vigor combos are? So far all I got is flaming crows and charging people on fire.
It recharges your whole shield on the spot huh? So shotgun + melee based gear + charge upgrades is pretty strong I’d think? Wonder if that’ll hold up for 1999 mode?
Has anyone figured out what the Heater is good for? It seems like such a shit gun with only one shot. Wasn’t really feeling any of the Vox guns, tbh. They all just felt like shittier versions of the main guns.
I got a peice of Gear the other night that doubled my clip sizes for all my guns. The Heater had two shots in it making it kind of useful against heavies. Still rather just have the China Broom tho.
No idea, never used the heater. Some of the guns are just useless. If you are going for the scavenger achievement you’ll be using all sorts of guns to avoid buying ammo from the dollar vending machine. I didn’t upgrade anything on my 1st 1999 mode run. Later I found out there was a glitch to farm money/lockpicks/gear in the middle of the game:
This would of made my 1999 mode run a bit easier.
For 1999 mode I felt no upgrades were necessary at all but you definitely need to better your odds by getting all the infusions, most of the gear (a lot of them are useless), vigors. You don’t have to buy vigors if you know where to find them and if you want to upgrade them for the last fight or for the siren’s it’s your call.
I played and streamed the game today from start to finish. Took about twelve hours total. Amazing game and an amazing experience on its own. Can’t wait to play it through a second time. BED TIME NOW THOUGH.
