Bionic AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRMMMMMMMMM! MvC3 BioCom general discussion

You can techroll, but certain techniques you can’t tech out of.

lol i was thinking duke nukems bionic ginger cousin more like it

Nothing wrong with that, solely because you think he’s related to Duke. Meaning he’s awesome

Hype for Spencer. Despite the hate, I loved BC for 360 and Spencer was a left field but cool choice. Some sick OTG combos.

I would have preferred Rearmed Spencer for his retro-cool shades and awesome dumb Shinkiro grin, but new Spencer will suffice.

As a point character…I’m not sure what kind of assists would most benefit him, but with how self-sufficient he seems to be combo-wise, he seems like he’d mostly only need help either covering him on the ground/extending his pre-launcher ground hits, or some sort of pop-up assist at specific points in his combos to help fight gravity/tech scaling and let him grab people multiple times. Seems like he’d be best as a first character; he doesn’t look like an outstanding battery, but he doesn’t look like he’d rely a whole lot on meter for damage, either. Put him in, let him sling people around a bit, combo to Bionic Arm, DHC and spend some surplus meter.

As an assist, well, we can only guess at this point. My guess would be that he’d be almost exclusively combo utility, with assists that variously drag the opponent back in for more close-range hits (possibly his anti-air get-over-here snatch) and/or wallbounce (the “COME ON SUCKER” punch) the opponent for juggle utility. On that count he seems like he has a lot of potential; he seems like he’d benefit many different characters’ combos.

DHC utility…does Bionic Arm have any kind of invincibility for safe-tag purposes? His snatch super looks like a good DHC combo ender; looks reasonably fast, grabs juggled opponents, has a canned animation to ensure the whole thing hits, and leaves them right at Spencer’s feet for wakeup pressure.

Doesn’t seem like he’d have much THC utility unless his supers drag/wallbounce people into his teammates’ supers to make them hit in weird ways for better results.

I don’t see him being a top-tier pick but I think he’ll be pretty decent against characters who can’t zone him well and/or have a lot of nice extended hitboxes for snatch bullshit.

I’m sure Spencer will have a reel em in assist, a la Magneto Hyper Graviton.

I’m gonna rock Spencer/Thor/Hulk

Spencer on point, with Thor’s overhead assist should be nice. It sounds like anyone with low crouching A’s (everyone?) will benefit from overhead assists since you’ll be able to presumably create an unblockable situation. Hulk’s gamma charge assists (both the forward and vertical directions) supposedly have super armor so those would be great when someone is rushing you down.

With that being said, I only picked that team because they are part of the characters and playstyles that I like. I’m sure “better” characters like Dante or Deadpoole could be even greater assists.

This nigga here, he’s got some brass. I dig that originality, hoping to see more teams like this.

Spencer looks like he could have some relaunches or some sick resets with that OTG claw grab. Good shit Nitsumma.

Word? that’s similar as hell to my potential team (Thor/Spencer/S.Skrull) with Thor on point and Spencer with his (hopefully) GET OVER HERE assist…right into Thor’s command grab, then shenanigans should follow right after…hopefully it works out as planned, lol.

The one armed punch wallbounce is most likely his side exchange.

I can’t see why classic Spencer’s outfit would be a licensing issue amongst Capcom itself, that seems weird. Also, Spencer’s ReArmed costume not only appears in Bionic Commando in a flashback, but it can be unlocked for use throughout Bionic Commando if you get a certain item in ReArmed, so the clearly the use of certain costumes or looks for the character isn’t restricted to certain development teams.

Im willing to bet that at some point the ReArmed Spencer costume will be available as his alternate, so I wouldn’t worry about it.

Except where according to the Eventhubs news gather with Niitsuma and Seth, and they said that Marvel would basically be getting the alternates, and Capcom would be getting the “colors”.

I’m confused about Nathan’s ethnicity.

Yeah well, no one really knows for sure if they will stick to that or just add shit later on anyway.

I think that just meant that the colors for the marvel characters would be meant to suggest other costumes (like Spidey’s, where they are different costumes, but still just retextures) whereas the Capcom colors wouldn’t have any kind of significance like that. I doubt it had anything to do with actual alternate models and frankly, the way Marvel’s being so hardassed about colors I strongly doubt we’ll ever be getting alt model costumes, but I guess that’s for the spec thread.

Back on topic (kinda) is the dreadlock Bionic Commando worth a play? I’m having a hard time telling whether the decent/good reviews are legit or just based on Bionic Commando respect.

White guy with dreads.

It’s fun but flawed. The plot will make you cringe, and the level design is kinda lacking. There are a bunch of awesome set pieces, but there are also a bunch of parts where you have to fight inside of a tunnel or building. Swinging around is really fun, and you get a bunch of cool special moves. They really nailed the bionic arm. The soundtrack is .

Totally worth a playthrough, especially since it’s cheap.

I really liked it. I actually just beat it recently. The story is is definately loopy, but I think it was clearly intended to set up sequels (although that may not happen now since GRIN closed down). You have to play it for yourself and not pay attention to reviewers, basically. The Bionic Arm is a great deal of fun, you have lots of little options to take out your enemies with and it’s overall a pretty solid game. I also concur that the soundtrack is completely boss.

Without spoiling too much, the biggest risks they took was the direction of several characters in the game, arguably changing the character of the various protagonists quite significantly. Some people were abhorrent to this Idea, but in my personal opinion it allowed them to create something surprising, which I appreciated.

It’s not as if the original Bionic Commando characters were particularly deep (although they were etremely timeless in the video game world, something Im sure some people will use to argue against ever touching them or taking the severe storyline directions they went with in this game) so for me it’s a welcome change. Besides, it’s running somewhat seperate from the ReArmed series which gives you all the classic gameplay without the all the shocking melodrama.

Spencer is soooooo underrated
