I mentioned this in the team thread over a week ago. I figured it was common knowledge.
It works better now than it did in Vanilla because the initial zipline seems to pull you higher.
Spencer, the Mini-DHC Glitch
If tomorrow’s patch is to contain bug fixes beyond the throw tech glitch, do you think the unscaled grapples might be taken out now that people are starting to realize how silly it is? I doubt it, but who knows.
If they were gonna remove it, they would’ve done so when they launched Ultimate.
Yeah I had this in my pocket in Vanilla but wasn’t using it because Akuma was too fast for the horizontal Zip line. You can also make ambiguous cross-ups depending on spacing with a diagonal zip line, and decent tic throw setups if they block the wire + assist. The biggest problem though is time; it takes a while to setup and they have ample opportunity to react/put themselves in a better position. With 3 zips though there’s potential to get creative and adjust the spacing.
Upwards diagonal mixups work great in the corner:
cr.:l:, cr., cr.:h:+beam assist/projectile assist xx :uf:+:s:+:atk:
Then you either come down with j.:l: or go straight into a low or command grab when you land. It’s pretty dirty.
thats exactly what i do…works well mid screen to for the unsuspecting quick cross up with the assist
Hi guys, I’m not that great at this game and I know the Spencer THC’s are well known to be stupid in some situations but it’s something I’ve been trying to expand upon since I saw Spencer/Storm in action.
So anyways, I’ve been running Spencer/Sentinel/Strider for about a fortnight and I saw a video a couple of days ago using Strider-Legion to DHC into Manuvers. Well I took the concept and placed it into my team figuring that if my opponent pushes a button they eat about 500k raw AND you get a followup. I don’t have access to an xbox at the moment so I can’t test thoroughly but due to the fast recovery of Arm I can wait then Grapple [Could proberly dash over if not in corner for UVG]. Biggest problem I have at the moment is not knowing how much more I can get after due to having no xbox. I’m pretty sure can get QCF+ atk - L, tkQCF + S. After that I’m guessing just the usual stuff.
Again, I know this is proberly common knowledge but I haven’t seen it really dove into.
Oh one last thing, again, proberly stating obvious but unless my opponent Adv. Guards the Bionic Arm part of the THC it will cross them up meaning they get hit by Legion/Sodium Force and I’m pretty sure that from point blank the blockstun doesn’t cause Absolute Guard.
Hope this is useful.
lol me three…every day I love umvc3 Spencer more and more. I also use the up-forward grapple to go into air loops using Cap’s shield assist (or of course solo Spencer) to take them all the way to the corner regardless of starting point.

 Up angled grapples are pro. I made a huge thread for it and the tech I was working on back in vanilla, but decided to scrap it because it wasn’t very interesting.
Regardless, it’s very fun to use and makes people mad when I tell them my jump cancels actually damage them, haha.
How the fuck do you move while Spencer is moving? Seriously. I wanna jump? NOPE. Spencer’s fucking grappling hook is out. I wanna wavedash? NOPE. Spencer’s fucking grappling hook is out. I wanna airdash? NOPE. Spencer’s fucking grappling hook is out. I wanna teleport? NOPE. Spencer’s fucking grappling hook is out. It’s like you can’t move at all or press ANY buttons while this fucker is trying to zip around. It’s super annoying.
Air throw him. Sounds like the Spencer players you play against aren’t very good. If it’s not covered by an assist on the ground, it’s also a free ground throw.
Air throwing doesn’t really help if I’m 3/4ths to a full screen away and can’t move because the bastard grapple will make sure I stay there. I can’t press any buttons or the grapple will catch me. And they’ll usually call an assist when they’re zipping over to me so I STILL can’t press buttons anyway. I end up having to block/guess/eat the mixup.
That’s actually the best time to throw.
Can another Spencer/Doom player help me out with this? With my corner combo using Hidden Missiles, the first otg tends to whiff on a few certain characters, Felicia and Spiderman specifically. I always do launch, magic series, TK bomber, MH UVG, backdash tk qcf M, air S, forward zipline, downforward zipline, launch jcc UVG. Then if I have Doom missiles still active, I do dash + assist which has consistently worked for me, except on those two characters. The timing seems right since I can get consistently on other characters. But half of the time the first otg on the Hidden Missile just doesn’t otg.
Not a big problem since I can just super after the second UVG and kill them that way, but it does bother me.
Can someone help me please.
No matter how hard I try I can not do :s: into :qcf::h:
Is there a trick here, do i need to wiff something or cancel faster ?
Any help would be great. I see this in a lot of combo videos and I would like to get it running.
Thanks
You should probably check the rest of the thread, since somebody asks this about every other page. In short, what you’re doing is :s::qcf::h: but instead you need to do :s::qcf::uf::h:, tiger-kneeing the motion for the Wire Grapple (Vertical) attack.
The full write-up, which people can hopefully quote in the future rather than typing up a new reply each time, is as follows:
:s::qcf::uf::h: works because the :uf: at the end of the tiger-knee motion will cause you to super-jump-cancel your :s: attack, just as it would do any time you press :uf: after connecting with :s: (try it!). However, a super-jump has 4 frames of start-up before your character actually jumps. By pressing :h: during those 4 frames, you will cancel the start-up of the super-jump into the Wire Grapple (Vertical) special move.
This is necessary because :s: is not a normal move like the :atk: buttons are, but a special move. The rules are such that you may cancel any :atk: into a special move or a hyper combo, and any special move into a hyper combo (but not into another special move). As such, I can cancel into Armor Piercer into Bionic Maneuvers. I can also cancel
into :s:, but I cannot cancel :s: into Armor Piercer (that would be cancelling a special move into a special move). Fortunately for us, :s: is a special move with the unique property that it can be super-jump-canceled. This means that we can cancel :s: into a super-jump with an :uf: command (or with :ub: or :u:), and since the start-up of super-jumps *can *be cancelled into a special move, we are now able to perform a Wire Grapple (Vertical).
Technically, this means that the commands for performing a UVG after a launcher would be hitting the opponent with :s:, then a super-jump-cancel by pressing :uf:, and then a very quick :qcf::h: in the four-frame window we have to cancel the start-up of a super-jump into a special move. Of course, we can do all of this with a much easier motion, made possible by the manner in which the game’s input-buffer handles your inputs. The easiest way to do it is with a tiger-knee motion:
:s::qcf::uf::h:
It doesn’t work the same as in the first game sadly. There are certain characters you will just not be able to pick up with the missiles like you said Felicia, Spidey, and Wolverine. It seems to be all in the character size, and how they lie on the ground that determines whether or not it will work. It’s not just a small people thing though, when you’re doing the tk up grapple combos it doesn’t always work on Wolvie…yet I have no problem doing them on Ammy.
I just make sure I have a combo that works on all of them, and adjust according to who I’m beating up on. Good luck

 Forwarding this for posterity because I actually did this yesterday. Including the cackling and arm throwing (well, it was more like bellowing).
Didn’t yell surprise, though. Kinda wish I did.
are my eyes playing tricks on me or did they move the double bionic bomber combos? i can’t seem to pull any off and they flip out immediately during the second one.
