What? Diagonal zipline totally has landing recovery, (although not much,) and horizontal always recovers in the air.

nvm finally did it, you’re right. i don’t think its particularly important either way though because you should generally only be using it in situations where it will air recover anyway, and punishing it in general seems fairly impractical due to how fast he recovers, especially since you can only due it on whiff when you have no blockstun.

It’s absolutely important; Spencer has slow normals and can’t win a point blank poking war. One of the best ways to counter Spencer diagonal zips after blocking is to just mash throw or S. jab if he didn’t cover them properly with an assist. His approach isn’t free if the person knows what they’re doing.

So I’ve been out of the loop I guess? Haven’t kept up with fighting game news and most of my time playing UMVC3 has been in training mode cause I don’t wanna go through the hassle of buying more xbl (long story in itself). I’ve gotten used to new Spencer. Pretty much like 2 changes and he sky rockets in terms of being a better character.

So now this week I learn that people hate Spencer? This hurts my heart.

So how do u stop it if he instantly recovers?

I mean his horizontal one. like jump, assist, grapple toward u. If u jump u get hit by arm and his air attack, if u stay down he gets a free mix up.

Do u have to block the arm then air grab or something?

If he’s pulling that stuff assistless just jump up and air throw him.

But what I mean is when do u air throw him? Before he releases the line or after?

Ehm… Semantics… Catch him while he’s pulling himself along the zipline. At that time he can’t take any actions.

Just jump up and mash H…

Or to be safer, jump up, block the zipline and then mash H!

There are a lot of assist setups based around getting the opponent to block the zipline, though. Assist generally strikes as they’re forced to the ground, and they have to keep blocking until they’ve already been mixed up.

Can still tech it for the moment until the patch comes out that gets rid of that.

BUT, any tips on the timing for :s: sjc :m: Diag Zip :h:. I always seem to whiff the :h:. Is there a specific timing for getting this consistently??

Well yeah, obviously. Well, right now you can’t grab a ziplining Spencer as long as he’s mashing on H like vanilla Magnus

Hmm, I might be wrong here, but couldn’t you tech grabs while ziplining in Vanilla?
Meaning that if they reverse whatever glitch they introduced, Spencer should still be able to tech these grabs?

Nope, Spencer was very much boned if you airgrabbed him during ziplines.

I had a lot of trouble with that until Stark wrote up some help. I think it was :s: sjc :m: as early as possible, then wait until your a tiny bit above your opponent then :df: Zip :h:. If you cancel into :df: Zip it too early, you’ll be way under your opponent.

I found a corner to corner combo with Spencer that with no assists does around 700k+ and is self sufficient meter wise. I posted it in the combo thread if anyones interested.
