Damn, now I wish I took the time to learn vertical grapple setups.
Sigh… goes back to the lab

What new characters are you guys using in ultimate with BC and do you think he is still a strong anchor with the X-factor nerf? Also general BC team building tips appreciated.
He was a mediocre anchor before, but he’s much better now that he isn’t nearly as reliant on assists for his longer combos.
So Wire Grapple beats super armor. I suspect many people already knew this but I don’t think it’s common knowledge. I’ve known about this for awhile, but neglected to ever mention it because I was waiting for Ultimate to come out so that I could make the following video.

you really are amazing
im having a real hard time doing the mid screen combo right after wire grapple i keep missing the follow up grapple to continue the combo. any advice?
Isn’t that hyper armor on that Nemesis super? Doesn’t super armor absorb 1 hit only while hyper armor absorbs all hits? Or do I have it backwards?
How are people converting happy birthday’s into kills that start off with a normal touch (not Bionic Arm)? Aerial Exchange seems to no longer work on both characters. I’ve tried it with different characters and the assist falls out every time. Seems like a new system mechanic that went unmentioned? Can Spencer convert a happy birthday if he’s not in the corner? I don’t see how…
Most birthdays come from bionic lancer, which leads into xfactor into air loop x3 ending with dfa into bionic lancer if needed, if I get the birthday with magic series its just LMH bionic arm into the same exact xfactor air loop, I try to keep it simple and the execution is extremely easy but there are probably more efficient ways of doing it, or without using xfactor.
trying to do
5MHS>j.M>delay diagonal grapple>j.H>land>236H+L>TK bionic knee (forgot real name, j236s)>5m>5h>236H+L
they randomly tech out of 5m>5h after the bionic knee - any idea if its just timing (im pretty sure im getting the 5m>5h cancel fast enough) or if its some other issue? about half the time it works, other half they just tech
edit:found that omitting the first 5h makes it 100% consistent, but harder to confirm. seems like the drop is char specific
also, starting to have problems with canceling non-wallbounce armor piercer in corner to bionic maneuvers - the input is right and im doing it fast enough, but it doesnt come out (bionic arm always works, but it does like 70k less dmg)
Piercer into Maneuvers can be made easier via input buffering. input 236 S >> 2 atk instead of 236 twice. If inputted close enough the 236 will count for both inputs and cancel the piercer right after it hits.
This is… Unusual. Who does it fail against?
I was testing this out the other day. If hitstun deterioration has proceeded too far, then 5MH will fail at the H. If for instance, you accidentally did a 2H instead of 5H at the start, this will fail too.
Didn’t seem character specific though, just depended on how much histun deterioration there was. For instance, my preferred method of going in is overhead/wire grapple H/S + Tasky arrows, so most of the time this combo would definitely fail for me.
Remember when Spencer was an obscure character?
Good times.
Yeah, he’s becoming less and less interesting to me.
Yea kinda sucks to see sooooo many choosing him now, but I don’t really think it’ll stay that way for the duration of the game. After the other characters get fleshed out a bit more, and they realize it still takes work to win with Spence…they’ll go back to the trechcoat mafia with the quickness.
Either way I don’t run into too many other’s that are great with him, they bionic arm/xfactor, raw horizontal zips, abcs, and call assists…when their Spence is all they have left, and NO xfactor…it’s not really a fight. That…and just because they pick him…doesn’t mean they know how to block against him lol.
He’s just way too awesome for me to let him go, the day I put him on my squad in vanilla (Cap/Spencer/IronMan), something just clicked in my head, and it’s almost better when he’s on point with Cap/IronMan assists behind him.
Even if you decide to leave the fellowship, thank you thank you thank you for all your posts/vids. Between watching you, Kuurann, and Combofiend I was able to get a good idea of his tools, and more importantly (to me) his movement. After that I just spend a billion hours in the training room experiementing, and now while not perfect yet…I feel as though I have a good Spencer. It only goes up from here, so thanks!
Long live the arm!
Kei
I don’t mind people playing this character, as long as they know I didn’t pick him to bandwagon his tier status. I guess I’m just a hipster that way~
DOUBLE HIPSTER
I don’t mind the new players either, as long as they play him well and do some work for it. I feel that Spencer can be an asset to almost any team and he’s one of the most fun characters in the game.
Apparently I suck really bad because I can’t get any timing down with Spencer. I’m using Wesker/Spencer/Taskmaster and just doing the simple combo with Spencer and Task (since I assume Wesker’s out of the picture usually if I get to Spencer). Anyways, I can never get anything to work after the down forward air grapple (I have to fall too far to do anything, so I assume I’m doing it wrong), so I’ve been doing this:
lmhs mmhs tk j.h grapple, (then this is the part that kills me) j.h, (land) H grapple + L, tk air qcf+s xx Bionic Maneuvers > DHC into Task’s upward arrows.
Do you guys have any suggestions on how to make the air H into the immediate upwards grapple work? The opponent either recovers in air, or a Light ground grapple comes out since the timing is wrong or something. Argh!
Am I using the wrong buttons? Like am I supposed to a falling S into the H grapple? Do I have to time the falling H earlier? I feel like I’m waiting almost until the end of my time in the air and it doesn’t work, but it also doesn’t work when I do it halfway down.
edit: I can do it offline some/most of the time I guess… I think maybe I’m not cancelling the H into the grapple, like I leave too much of a gap or something. I dunno! Any helpful execution/timing tips in general or any super basic but damaging BNBs?
Spencer is garnering a lot of hate.
Brace yourselves my fellow Spencer players.
We are officially tier whores now.
