50/50 vs sent using dormammu dark hole assist: call dorm, :f: zip. If dorm hits-combo. If blocked either :d: :l: or instant :uf: :h: , :s: xx :qcf: :h: and combo from there. Might work with other assist. Need to test more.
Also, it looks like Spencer can’t normal jump over sent. Might not be useful, just putting that out there.
Advance gaurd doesn’t work because of wave dashing. honestly the one that drove me batty was Taskmaster and he just webswings back into range or dashes in if his assist is going. With Wolverine I can jab him after his webswings and heavy afterwards to catch doom or sentinal assist before they get the attack off. Spencer can’t seem to do those. Advance gaurding also has the same problem it did in TvC, if u accidently advance gaurd an assist attack it means free combo for the player. Any player decent enough though just wave dash’s in after advance gaurd back into an aerial attack that spencer can’t beat out hence keeping u pinned in corner. I tried advance gaurd so many times to get out lol.
I know Haggar’s assist is incredible against rush down, but I’m not a fan of Haggar and was hoping he had other team options to stop the rush downs with sent assist or hisien ko or akuma assists. His assist also does not help at all against keep away so you need a second assist to deal with that, meaning u’ve forced the entire 3 man team to cover your point.
If we can come up with something to either win aerial exchanges or stop rush downs it free’s up at least one character choice.
P.S. I tried wolvies tornado claw assist, was pointless against rush they get hit before even starting.
I’m using piercer as well, but only because his grapple assists are garbage. I’m running bio / task / haggar though, so assuming I’ve built a few bars for task, spencer’s job is done; I never call his dumbass.
You mentioned an instant overhead “E” against sentinel a few posts back. What are you referring to exactly?
if your opponent is RUSHING THAT ASS DOWN, Advance Guard, and if they are gonna use a move to get back in range (You can guess it, or do it reaction, it depends on the character), just interrupt them with Bionic AARRRRRM.
not the most solid tactic, but its something to keep in your pocket.
Anybody tried using Thor or Haggar for the floorbounce assists? Seems like you could get a bit more damage on the combos using the wallbounce AND the floor bounce. Just curious if anyone’s tried it.
Ive been using Hagger with Spence but I havent figured out anyway to make use of Spencers bounce with Haggers assist.
I tried Steel Pipe assist and it didnt connect, maybe violent axe will connect off of floor bounce.
If so I would chase your opp down with forward :atk::s: or maybe even a dash will get you back into range to start up your BNB
This is the perfect oppurtunity for you to land a :qcb::atk::atk:
timing is just alittle weird. Wait for spence to land on the other side of the screen and input your bionic lancer, it will feel like its coming out late but itll connect.
Anyone have good footage of Spencer and how he’s played properly? All these fancy combo’s and use of Bio Arm is great… but actually applying them in a real match seems really hard for me.
I will for sure be using Trish and Hulk. I like her the most and thinks shes the best character… Hulk level 3 X-Factor is scarier than Sentinel imo, so I anchor him. I’d really like Spencer to be the third… but like I said it’s hard to use him when there so much shit flying around. Probably would be better to have him in the 2nd slot and Trish first…hmmmmm.
I definetly play a strong waiting game with spencer, you know abit of turtling. Just gotta wait for the right opportunity to get in but when you do it G.O. for you opp. Spence has big damage.
Throw an assist out that will put them in block stun then Fly in with your Grappling hook. Or you can swing around in the air while calling assist to confuse your Opp. then come falling down onto them witha :l: or some tricky Hook shenanigans.
But its really not that hard getting into Spences BNBs, its not ultra easy like getting in with the kaligraphy Dog, but its not impossible
If you’re playing against keepaway character on the other side of the screen, a nice trick I like to do is n. jump zip line forward and do a j.:h: as I’m falling. It crosses up and you can do a combo afterwards. You can use an assist to protect him if you’re having too much trouble.
This is what works for me. Once you get comfortable with the timing on your assist’s projectile and your wire grapples, you can vary the timing on each to make it difficult for the opponent to know which direction to block. You want your assist’s move to connect right as you are above their head with wire grapple. Practice your timing so that you can comfortably choose between crossing up and not crossing up the opponent with your air :s: on the way down from wire grapple. I tend to have more success with j.:s: than j.:h:; seems to yield more ambiguous crossups than j. :h: for me.
Honestly I have picked spencer like 97% of the time and tried all of his assist but with my team (Spence, Hag, Sent) I havent been able to successfully apply any of them.
Im sure there is something that could be done with slant shot or armor piercer, but im not seeing it yet.
BrainStorm session:
What about a ground combo with hagger ending in :h:Violent Axe, maybe Slant shot could get them off the bounce.
Or maybe a Armor Piercer while being pressured to get your opp off of you. (anyone know if Spence has any invcibility during his Armor Piercer Assist?)
Armor piercer actually compliments sentinel pretty well. You can hit it from Sent’s crouching medium and get the launcher right after it and use as a way to cover ground options as you move in from the air. Once you get the reaction down from the wall bounce you can get a nice combo from it. For instance, Magneto can easily do a dash into cr. H - S and start his game up from the wall bounce on reaction. So far I have not been able to apply it as an point assist and mainly land it as a surprise to most people. Unfortunately, this surprise includes myself. I usually use it when I am trying to bait a charge when I am playing keep away with one of my other characters.
They are not that great. All of Spencer’s assists are pretty much intended to be combo extenders.
Armor piercer assist is one of the more powerful assists in the game and it wall bounces too. Some characters don’t have wall bounces, so it’s worth using if you have a character in your roster that can’t wall bounce on his/her own. I think Hsien-Ko is one example.
Straight grappling shot is pretty bad in my opinion. Grappling hook loses to almost everything, so if it goes straight, it’s more inclined to get canceled out by other projectiles that it might run into like Sentinel drones or something.
Slant grappling hook is the one I use. I run a team of Spencer/MODOK/Sentinel and I sometimes use the assist in combos. For example, check the first combo of this video: . Otherwise, if I happen to be playing keep away, I can cover an angle of the screen with spencer’s slant hook assist. If he connects, I attempt to follow up.
