I’d do the same if I could play him on point.
Also, I use Haggar with Spencer as well. Who’s your 3rd member Nannie?

But Im gonna consider switching Either the Mayor or the Bot for MODOK.
Gotta hit the lab tonight to see whats up.
We should get some matches together so we can share some Spence and Hagger notes. Gotta mic?
Yeah, but I can’t find it.
Some general tips not specific to your team:
-Bionic Falcon Punch punishes alot, like Sent spits, move whiffs, and even some projectiles. XFactor after it hits and you should be able to kill the guy with Lvl2/3 XFactor. It’s also good to randomly throw around. If the opponent jumps over it, that’s cool. However, if it’s blocked, it has some recovery time so DHC into something safe.
-Bionic Maneuvers also stuffs alot – I’ve hit people out of EM Disruptors, Whirlwinds, etc. Once that claw grabs onto your opponent, no matter what your opponent has on screen, Spencer will combo through it.
-Air grapple (A+S in air) is good for running away for the time win or XFactor opponents.
-Jumping C for when you’re near overhead and trying to cross up, Jumping B if you’re farther.
-For the most part, stick to normals on point. A lot of Spencer’s specials have bad recovery, so unless you can cover him with an assist or cancel into a super, you’ll be punished hard.
I like the Armor Piercer assist.
In combos, it’s easy to set up for after the hit. The wall bounce opens up a relaunch, super, or a snapback if you need to take down an opposing Sentinel, Phoenix, etc.
Love it with Zero on point <3.
Not sure if anyone here would be interested, but since he’s my point character…
I’m using Arthur/Spencer/Haggar and streaming almost every time I play the game (can do training mode or XBL). So if you’re interested in any of those characters and would like to watch and talk strats or play me, check out Josh the Funkdoc’s Live Speedruns & MvC3 Practice on USTREAM: . . I don’t think I’ll do anything tonight since I already worked on capturing some stuff, but tomorrow I’ll stop the combo grinding and play some actual matches!
I don’t know if anybody has pointed this out, but Spencer’s dash crosses through Storm while she’s standing. Tested it with other characters and nobody can cross storm up that way. I wonder how many characters this works on.
Nothing Spencer does really seems spectacular. He just dishes out tons of damage, and stays in people’s faces.
FUNKDOC!!! We need to tangle!
I’ve been trying spencer in lobby matches and I’ve been doing well with him. I love his BIONIC AAAAARRRRMMMMM super, especially since it punishes basically anything easily with its startup and invincibility. Though I can’t seem to land the jump qcf H otg to get them after spiking them from an air combo. I’ve seen it work in those vids but I’m screwing up somewhere (probably everywhere haha). Any advice?
When you launch and you’re going for MMHS, be sure to jump up-forward and look at your timing. Some people do the MMHS slow, I’m not even sure how I do it anymore (just goes natural now). Just mix up the timing until you get it. As for the actual otg, if you’ve got a stick with a square gate you can do the tiger knee easily since you can just push the control stick into the up right/left corner, you can feel it easily with a square gate
Anyone know how good C command grab is priority wise? If it’s decent… you can really trap some characters down. I was thinking…
Any air combo that ends in air D into the corner -> j. C arm whip -> wall bounce -> while falling air C xx forward hook swing -> land-> pause -> C command grab when they air recover.
I got this to work a few times and if you tech into the corner, you can repeat the loop off the throw. If they tech out of the corner, you can still dash and C command grab them anyways, which puts them mid screen where you can combo bionic arm.
I was in training mode yesterday messing around with Spencer, and I noticed you can use the :s:+:atk: grapple to push the opponent to the corner after launching them. Just throwing that out there. I haven’t applied it to a dummy opponent or anything, so I don’t know how useful it is.
Whenever you go for the air reset command throw if you do it off a high wall bounce spencer will actually be off screen below them for a second. Should be able to set up an ambiguous left/right mixup as they come down. So on the air reset your options are:
H command throw
left cr.L
right cr.L
S+H grapple arm at them after they tech a direction
M/H qcf command arm after they tech a direction
The last two should hit them in the air and may beat some air normals. No idea how viable those options are, but there’s a lot of stuff to try there. Seems like there’s a pretty good mixup after a corner OTG into wallbounce with the air reset.
As far as assists, I use the upward angle grapple. The reason why I do this is it works well with weskers OTG shot after wesker’s combo. Wesker will shoot, and spencer will grab em in the air and pull them down, and I can get one more hit. So I can either super with wesker (worst option) or jump in and try to get a reset. The best reset that I do is jump E, they immediately land, and I do wesker’s command grab right away, and since the jump E finishes the combo, I don’t have to wait for them to get out of hit stun.
Anyway this assist might work well with other character who have otg enders for their combos. You just have to call out spencer before you hit the ground so it hits.
I can vouch for this. When Spencer pulls them down you can do whatever you want, even relaunch if you’re looking for great damage.
It’s corner only. You can land :qcf: midscreen if they don’t tech, but the spacing is tricky.
A combo I’ve been having fun with is his BnB corner combo, calling assist for when I pick them off the ground, then juggling with :qcf: super. The animation is long enough that I can DHC into the assist that I called to land the super :razzy:
I was just messing around with Spencer in training mode and I saw that, following >
> :h: xx :qcf:
in the air with a :df: :atk: :s: makes a combo and allows you to link a medium into it. I wonder if it’s possible to get an :s: off.
armor piercer is a wall bounce
Messed with this and it seems that it can only be done midscreen.
I was unable to connect anything after the :df::atk::s: beside another :atk: xx ::qcf::l:
air:s: wiffed; air:h: connected into :qcf::l: but I was always to high off the ground to combo into another launcher or ground combo; which is were we need to be to get Hyper Combos
This find will definetly make spence’s mixup game that much better
But I would forgo the :df: :atk::s: after an aircombo for a Bionic Lancer if you have the meter.
Not sure if this should be in another thread, but I’m streaming XBL matches now if anyone cares. It’s day 1 of actually playing against people and I have a lot to learn!
i really hope some of you guys are taking advantage of Spencers normal swing when an opponents next character is coming in. Timed right and Mid-Screen, it sets up for very tricky cross ups with the right assists
example (not great quality video)
