Best Ultimate Tech Talk Hang Out Loud Edition season VI, RIP MarkMan's #BeardStache

My space is EXTREMELY limited. All previous attempts to lure home a candy cab have failed. This one is the only one the wife would possibly tolerate.

In a parallel universe, another me has two Egret IIs in his/my living room.

Space isn’t exactly limited for me; we live in a pretty large townhouse for just the two of us (no kids… yet?.. but that’s a whole other story).

My wife tolerates the cab that I have because it’s a custom that I built back in 2012. I don’t use it much these days, but it’s still a great conversation piece with guests, plus it’s a nice completed project that I’m pretty proud of. My wife is pretty proud of me building that too; she shows it off to her geekier/gamer colleagues too.

This is probably the only cab my GF would tolerate at home:

Sega CD support!

Anyone needing a Mega Everdrive x5 in a few months?

I got a older Mega Everdrive that would be an equivalent of a X7
I might sell that for the Mega EverdrivePro.

Was playing around with the idea of getting a MegaSD, but I hated having to deal with TerraOnion at all. I sent them a message once as I had a issue with their pay system (foreign bank transfers) and I needed their feedback to talk to my own bank, they adamantly refused saying it was my problem. That is a great way to lose a customer.
Stoneage gamer a good middle man (and much easier to work with), but TerraOnion’s negative customer service skills and the issues that was with the SD SYSTEM 3 and how TerraOnion did not see as it was their concern to fix the issues with their own product made me avoid them.

KRIKzz on the other hand, I had talked to directly and he was actually was helpful.

I would be down for the Dreamcase by TR Fightsticks, but I for one didn’t not like the rear power button or that blue Swirl Logo.

Not a fan of TerraOnion at all (based on what I’ve read). SSDS3 though is the only comprehensive solution offering PC Engine CD support. If Krikzz comes out with a competing product, I’d jump on that.

For me the biggest turnoff of the Mega SD, outside of who designed them, is the cart height when inserted. Each shelf in my shelving system has about 7” between levels. The Virtua Racing cart thing going on with the Mega SD is a no-go for me.

The Dreamcase looks cool, but I don’t really see the real purpose of it.
The Dreamcast’s stock case is iconic, and unless it’s physically cracked/broken, I woudn’t see the purpose of changing it. There are at least 2 nice 3D printed interior part sets for the GDEMU, so unless you’re just lazy to open the cover to change SD cards, I don’t even consider that a real reason either.

On the topic of Dreamcast, I’ve been seeing a discussion by Voultar on Twitter about changing to a DreamPSU power supply might be problematic with voltage swings/spikes (maybe just the knockoffs?), but I don’t think he’s revealed everything yet and I’ll wait for the full Youtube video. I personally prefer the stock PSU and I left it in there on mine, but this is interested discussion nonetheless.

I think part of the problem is finding a good and stable power brick for the pico psu and dreampsu. There some noisy 12v 3 amp bricks out there

I also know Voltuar isnt a fan of the PWR+ brand.

Yeah, he did mention the power brick issue.

As I think I mentioned in this thread before, I prefer to keep the stock PSU in my Dreamcast as it keeps the external components more to a minimum: no power brick and only a power cord, which is cleaner in my opinion.

PWR+ I use on my DC seems to be working fine. On the topic of PSUs has anyone tried the Triad PSUs recommended by FirebrandX listed on DigiKey for other systems?

I got one for my PC Engine but haven’t tried it yet.

So with Japan basically stopping shipments out because of the state of emergency going on, where’s the best place to see about getting PC Engine stuff that’s not named eBay?

No clue. If you find out let us know. I ordered another Core Grafx pad via eBay from Osaka last month. Tracking says it was returned to sender from Japan post. Hopefully I can get my loot back.

I got a recent communique from Blackship that urged people to get their orders in. SAL service out of the country is stopped entirely, but it looks like North America emerged unscathed and items shipped EMS will still head out.

Here’s a PDF link to Japan Post stating what’s stopped, and where. If your country isn’t on the list, you’re fine: https://www.post.japanpost.jp/int/information/2020/0401_02_01_en.pdf

I support this “mom 'n pop” shop in Virginia. Not the cheapest, not the most expensive, their product descriptions are accurate, their item condition ratings are conservative vs. in dreamland, and they ship stuff packed with TLC.

P.S. Linking directly to my favorite TG-16 game vs. their store front :sunglasses:

I’ll look at getting a PC Engine/TG16 very soon, because I just spent $75 on the Command and Conquer remasters to get a limited edition physical copy. I regretted not getting the one they had for Lawbreakers, plus the entire musical score for all of the games in the collection were redone by Frank Klepacki. They’ll also be available on a USB disk that comes with it, and the physical box will be opened exactly once to get the Steam code, and to take out the USB stick with the music and copy it to my computer. Then it’ll be put back in the box and put in storage.

I noticed estarland ages ago but was strangely apprehensive about ordering from them. Thx for the heads up.

Oh the new updates to the CPS1 core from Jotego is hot.
So good to play CPS1 games that aren’t software emulated.

Even for the core being in the Beta stages right now, the fact I got World Warriors, Champion Ed, Hyper Fighting, Alpha (CPS1), and the CPS changer version of Zero working is awesome.

Some gems I didn’t know existed as CPS1 games, example Willow the Arcade game is like easier Ghost and Ghouls.

Bob from Retro RGB did a write up based on Voultar’s findings.

Found my Silver PSP in storage today, complete with copies of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 and Ys VII. Debating looking up how much I could get for it all.
