Quality comes with a price tag unfortunately. Imho I’d buy something worth while than buy a chinese system that barely plays NES games.
Man up to version 6 on these now! Happy New Year SRKTT
I’ve been checking nearly every day to see if FA gets a restock of Taeyoung Fantas. Every day I’m disappointed.
Alienware is interested in making a hybrid device like the Switch
@Darksakul said something about this yesterday in a thread … and what I think he said was basically equivalent to a fucking shit no.
A handheld Windows Switch wouldn’t be bad in principle, but it would probably have the battery life of a Sega Game Gear and either overheat in 10 minutes or have fans so loud playing it in confined spaces is impossible.
Oh, and what’s up guys! Here’s to a good 2020
Yep, I have a strong aversion to Dell’s approach to manufacturing.
God Damn there this whole era of Dell Machines (1998 to 2015) I refuse to touch with a 11 and a half foot pole and one of you guys holding the pole. Priority connectors everywhere that is so bad that PC Repair Textbooks ether mention or have a whole chapter on this poorly made junk. Their HDDs dont use standard IDE connectors for no good reason other than force you to go to them for repairs and upgrades. Its like a early precursor to Apple’s current pants-on-head retarded designs.
Strangely in that their monitors are designed well with quality and durability in mind.
I also hate the direction Dell took alienware.
This device is going to be a ill conceived handheld that based on PC design.
They said the prototype has a 2 hour battery. So like my current gaming Laptop.
In other news, I looking to mess around with the MiSTer, I already have a DE 10 Nano ordered from Digikey, and I got a USB hub daughter board, IO Board, an SD Ram module for it (32mb) and a case for it.
What drives up the price of a project like this is all the little shit you forget about, SD card, If your IO board dont already include a fan get a 40mm fan, 2 pin dupont connector for the said fan, inline on/off switch for the power supply, case, ect.
To be fair, Dell isn’t the only company notorious for using proprietary connectors just because screw you. Sony has done it for eons.
Speaking of proprietary connectors, I’m usually bothered about proprietary power connectors.
One particular era that especially bothered me:
- GBA SP, GB Micro, DS all used different power plugs; this was particularly aggravating as the three units had some overlap in their lifetimes.
- PSP, PSP Go, Vita (1000 model) and Vita (2000 model) all used different power plugs as well; although at least the Vita-2000 used a standard micro-USB as its port.
Should get my Terasic DE 10 nano board in This Friday.
Getting also a Cheap OTG USB hub, a small 40mm Fan and such Thursday.
Also decided to grab the Retro-Bit Official Sega Genesis USB Controller 8-Button Arcade Pad
That should cover most of my gaming needs other than games that use paddle controls.
Wondering should I bother making a MiSTer thead or not.
We got hardly anything else going on of value in Tech Talk.
I hear ya. I don’t come into TT like I used to either … All the threads I pay attention to haven’t had posts in a long-ass time (Korean parts thread amongst the many many examples), and my ass isn’t up for getting infractions or accidentally summoning D3v to get my forums account murked.
Looking back at goals I had at the beginning of '19, I’ve done absolutely none of the modding I intended. Partly because I eased off SF, as I still can’t fully get behind SFV (though the latest wave of changes seem interesting) and partly because real life kicked me in the nuts. There’s no rulebook to being a father, that’s for sure.
On the other hand I did get some good cooking done, figured out how to source wood for my offset smoker (when you’re in a townhouse community you can’t go out back and cut down a tree) and got some watches to scratch the horology itch (still mad @d3v set me down that path, but hey…). My wife got me the twin for my brown and gold Recraft, a SRPC09 . I picked up a ‘Bottlecap’ and a Fossil Rutherford, because it’s hip to be square. Afterward it was trying to find the right leather strap, bracelet, Nato or single pass strap to match each watch. My wife just laughs when I try to find the right watch to match what I’m wearing. Gotta coordinate. Or something…
Also dove into bourbon, which I’ve stayed away from for some reason (but had no problem with Islay scotch for years). SLowly restocking because of… reasons (being a dad again, no rulebook)m but should have a decent selection by summer
Think I"m going to finally pull the trigger and get my sticks rebuilt and pull together a new project. The Brook wireless board shoudl do the trick in one
I’m mad I went down that path as well, as I have so much I want to get, but can’t seeing as I’m technically unemployed at the moment.
I gotta get through two weeks worth of training for work before Intuit will start paying me. That shits gonna be hard as hell.
But my wife’s okay with me putting extra hours in so we can hit up Combo Breaker this year.
Man, I really want to hit up another major FGC tournament/event sometime.
I made to EVO2013 and had a blast; competed in SF4:AE2012 and SFxT.
Problem is, I’d totally want to compete, but I really spread myself wayyyy too thin across too many fighters in the last couple of years to stand any sort of chance: I mainly play Smash Ultimate, I don’t touch SFV much anymore, but I also play DBFZ, BBTAG and UNIST…
Never been to EVO. Would like to add it to my bucket list. This year is out for a few family trips planned, and next year I really want to go to COTA in Austin for the F1 race.
I went to EVO2013 with my brother, 2 cousins, and a close buddy. Met phreakazoid there when I picked up my JLF Links, saw Markman from a distance but he was busy at the time and I couldn’t manage to go say hi, and managed to get photos with Umehara Daigo and Yoshinori Ono.
But next time, I’d love to try meet up and hang out with people from SRKTT, if possible.
I’m either eyeing Combo Breaker or Evo unless I decide to pool money up for 2021 and Japan.
Hmmm… been a while… might have to poke around a bit
I won one of my grail watches. Well, modified version. Originally wanted the silver face Snoopy watch, but those has been sold out for a while and were going for ridiculous money on the open market. This one, on the other hand, is much more personal. As I kid I flew kites with my dad and could really relate to Chuck. As a washed old fart, I can truly appreciate this one. Found on Ebay before these went out of stock under retail. I could wear it every day…
On the stickmaking front, anybody have experience with that Brook PS4 wireless board? I need a wired and a wireless PCB to get these projects rolling. Wired shouldn’t be too hard, but I wasn’t sure if the Brook board still had random 8 minute timeout issues or not.
Toying with the idea of a Korean stick build. If I don’t care for the feel of the stick I can always swap a Happ in there (I’ve got 2 tall cases that can fit the parts with no problem).
