Best Ultimate Tech Talk Hang Out Loud Edition season VI, RIP MarkMan's #BeardStache

True

Why is it so many people insist on S-video when other video connections are superior?

Are there really any?
I’ve never heard of any people asking for S-Video; I’ve always thought it was the connection type that you fall back on when you don’t have RGB or Component.

It’s mostly on facebook and YouTube comments, people act like S-video is needed when RGB mod is an easier project

So, I think I convinced my wife to let me upgrade my cell phone line and put the Note 9 I currently have on her line. We’ve been with T-Mobile for around two years now, and there’s no real plans to change carriers. I ended up deciding to pick up the new OnePlus McLaren 5G edition after a crapton of research between it and a Google Pixel 4 XL. The only other phone I was considering upgrading to was a iPhone 11 Pro, but since I’m leasing the phone through T-Mo; the initial payment for the iPhone is too rich for my blood. For $100 less, I’d be losing wireless charging (which I’m kinda okay with), but I’d be getting 256gb of UFS 3.0 storage; versus 64gb on the Pixels and the iPhone 11 Pro.

It really all depends on my wife’s EOY bonus tbh.

Managed to pick up a used BenQ GL2460HM in good shape from local classifieds for $65CAD (about $48USD). This screen joins my two gaming screens (both BenQ RL2455HM monitors); if you count my main 60" TV and my custom arcade cabinet, I can practically run a tournament/event at my house!

In all seriousness, been wanting a proper screen at my modding table to do my testing when I mod/clean consoles. I’ve been using an old Dell 1907FP (19" screen with 5:4 aspect ratio), but it only has DVI and VGA inputs, and doesn’t have any built-in speakers. Been an old Composite/S-Video-to-VGA converter (definitely laggy) and a pair of external speakers, or an HDMI-to-DVI converter (no sound that way). Happy to finally have that replaced.

Lol it’s a clone of a existing stick

I hate how the sneaky perspective on the photos for that casing make it look MUCH thinner than it actually is.

Yep. It’s official.

Mad Catz is dead.

Random question: what’s the most compact/smallest joystick lever that’s available these days?
I kind of have an urge to build a really slim/thin joystick, but it doesn’t look like the LS-33 is available anymore?

https://arcadeshock.com/products/seimitsu-ls-33-or-ls-33-01-kai-joystick-compact
arcade shock seems to have them, but only with the PCB 5 pin connection. The .187 connection doesn’t seem to be available
and these bad boys

Both are made for shallow cases

Thanks!

I checked both Focus Attack and Paradise Arcade Shop, and neither had the LS-33 listed.

Already aware of PS-15s as I use them in one of my casings already.

Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals! :triumph:

edit: gonna put this here too, since a few of you (like @Darksakul) know about it … but I got offered a full-time contract working on a Intuit product starting on the 13th. Gotta work through two weeks of training before they start paying. $11/hr with a 40 hr work week incoming.

May your Christmas be down right fierce

Hee hee, Bungholes.

Happy new year everyone!

I’m starting to become interested in those emulation handhelds from China. A lot of them are crap, but there are some good ones. I might end up just getting a Vita, but I really don’t want to carry an additional cable. The last one in this video looks promising, it uses parts from the Vita.

There are alot of promising handhelds made with Raspberry Pi compute modules you may want to look at.

I would build one myself if I was good with my hands. There are some nice ones on ebay with GBA shells, but they’re way too expensive.
