Think out loud, eh?

‘This should be easy enough, just recapping a monitor!’

‘All done, time to plug it in.’

‘This is going to be the longest MAME project ever.’

Started work on a design I’ve always wanted to copy: Sega’s New Versus City.

Here’s the work in progress.

Not quite finished yet (need the text on the upper right and have yet to replicate the logo), but it might already be good for some variants.

Anyone ever consider doing something like this to connect their PS2 stick to their PSP?

Thought of getting a PS3 stick and playing it with my PSP, but not PS2, interesting… I’d have to look into it further…

I lol’d.

Seconded. It’s so frustrating to mod that I just replaced all the internals with a madcatz pad.

Thinking about drilling 20mm holes in the top for LB/RB/Back/Start, but I dunno if that’ll end up looking like ass. Might as well try it for the hell of it, right? XD

So what in the hell kind of blue are dark blue sanwas?

THESE PICTURES DO ME NO JUSTICE! I don’t want to get some blue buttons that turn out grey like how i ordered violet buttons but turned out pinkish :[

Dark blue Sanwas some times called indigo are almost as purple as a gamecube but not quite.

Sooooo, I have a question. I bought this stick:

Mine’s like the SG-6 or something, looks exactly the same, but I believe it’s for Genesis

But when I’m moving the joystick around, there’s no “clicking” whatsoever, like in Sanwa and Seimitsu. It’s by ASCII, and I heard they had joysticks that were optical, and wanted to know if this was one of them? Just curious. It feels a little weird, but I actually like the non-“clickyness”, I guess you could say.

ASCII did produce sticks with optical joysticks, but those didn’t come about until the Dreamcast era. That stick there is probably operating using rubber contacts like you’d find on a digital pad which is why it’s so quiet.

Ah, ok. That’s pretty cool.

Is there a list of optical joysticks that ASCII made?

Yes, my Post in Thread of Ikagi-chan about Optical Joystick.
Also shown in First Post of that Thread.

Cool, thanks! I found it.

I’ll head back to my local trade center this weekend with pictures of these sticks and see if anybody has 'em. Just to see if I can find a sweet deal.

how the fuck can a joystick operate with conductive pads?

Just like a dpad can… Basically it would be a dpad with a lever connected to it.

My J-stick enthusiast friend tried out my stick fairly extensively today. He said that in his opinion the Happ Competition buttons w/ Groovy’s microleaf switches felt very similar to Seimitsu’s buttons, except obviously with a smaller surface area. That had been my general perception as well, since they’re not quite as soft to the touch as Sanwas but still light as a feather compared to the cherry switches. So, to reiterate, if you want Seimitsu responsiveness with the familiarity of Happ buttons, then Happ competitions w/ microleafs are a pretty good solution.

Quick question:

I want to replace my custom joystick to a Sanwa JLF. I use quick disconnects, which model of JLF is the one WITHOUT the PCB and the one that lets you use quick disconnects with it?

Also, I’ve been outta the modding scene for a while, where’s the cheapest place to buy a JLF replacement? (pref. to Canada) I used to buy from LizLick but I won’t anymore since they’re skimming by not inc. balltops anymore with their JLF’s…

there is no JLF without PCB, you just need to cut the tracers and then you could use the contacts.

?

Quick disconnects won’t connect to the JLF TPMA, I think you’re thinking of soldering the connections to the Microswitch feet which would work but I have quick disconnects.
