I soldered up my first Chimp for someone’s TE yesterday. He also wanted a octo gate, which was sold out at the time, so I modded a 2 way gate to a circle gate instead. I must say I’m proud of myself. I never used a TE before, so I plugged it up to my PS3 to test it. I must say that JLF isn’t as bad as I once remembered. I may have to rethink installing that JLW in my upcoming stick…
Should I put the A B X Y RT RB LT LB on the template or not ?
I’m in the process of trying to convince someone that his HSS-0130 is trash and that I’d gladly “dispose” of it for him. Don’t think it’s gonna work though.
Are you on windows vista or windows 7? if so check your hosts file (read the ggpo faq on their forums).
If I wanted to paint the L1 and L2 buttons on my namco stick, what kind of paint/dye/whatever should I use?
I don’t believe I’ve ever gotten a chance to discuss my experience with GroovyGameGear’s “microleaf” switches for Happ buttons. For those who don’t remember, microleafs are little (I believe) momentary contact switches that are designed to fit Happ buttons as a replacement for the regular microswitches. Well, I’ve been using them for about a year in my Happ stick, and I love them. They are VERY responsive and require little force to activate, and operation is very smooth unlike the original switches which were stiff, loud, and require quite a bit of force to activate. If you, like me, are one of those oddball Happ Competition users who finds yourself a bit envious of the more responsive Japanese buttons, the micro leafs are a great alternative. I don’t know how long they last in comparison to regular micro switches, but at least 18 months or so of light use has not been enough to wear them out yet.

Interesting. I always liked the click of the cherry microswitch. That said, after playing with a TE, I can understand the appeal of a softer button. I may have to investigate, especially since GGG has the new Ice buttons that let you use wither switch
I wonder if these work well on a joystick… It would probably feel like an optical.
I’ve talked to the guy who runs GGG before and he says that they don’t work with joysticks. He may come up with a microleaf that’s joystick compatible in the future, but there haven’t really been any developments on that front as of yet. Personally though, if I want an optical feel I think I’ll go with an optical stick, and if I want mechanical I’ll stick with mechanical.
Unfortunately not. They have another product that will though.

I have been obsessing over these but I haven’t yet placed an order. I did mod a few old cherry switches to make them silent. The whole process felt a little hokey.
Seriously considering this:

SNES Advantage, converted to USB with a kit from RetroZone.

Wanting to do this for nostalgia emu goodness, but retain the slow-mo and turbo functionality.
Also, chicks that can solder give me the horn.
EDIT: Well, guess I’m doing it! Found an Advantage on eBay for $12 LOL
Soldering isn’t that hard, really. Traditional female oriented handicrafts like crocheting, quilting, etc. are like 1Mx more involved.

Those do look interesting. Wonder if it’s worth springing $20 to pick up a set
That’s true. Alright so she’s hot too.
What makes it hot is most women I know wouldn’t be caught dead with a soldering iron. Also she seems into games which is a plus…and she’s kinda hot already.
I sense a MvC3 custom stick in the future…
At least wait until they show more art assets, or at the very least the official logo.
Google’s SketchUp is pretty damn easy to use, I have to admit. Took maybe an hour to get the hang of how to specify lengths so I could get some precision, but once I got that, it’s been pretty slick. In a day, I’ve gotten this far, and I spent weeks in solidworks and didn’t get this far.
