Best Ultimate Tech Talk Hang Out Loud Edition Season V

That’s the thing… I didn’t root mine lol. it was an update that Verizon pushed through that did it to me

i just put together one of arts tek cases. for the bottom, i put super glue on the thread of the 3/4 inch scews because i think i ruined the threading in the plastic (the screws fall straight thru). has anyone else had this problem before? i was thinking about just buying slightly longer screws and throwing a washer and a nut on the other side so i dont have to worry about the threading in the little plastic corners.

But I guess in a way, that’s a good thing, since Verizon would cover that if your phone was completely unusable afterward.

I was merely mentioning rooting just on the basis of I don’t want to brick my phone or have it do something inexplicably retarded, then my warranty be voided.

AdBlock.

Try that out, tell me how it works.
Google needs to add it into the API, chrome is currently incapable of blocking flash ads.

It works just as well as AdBlock for Firefox, which you should be running regardless of what the browser has. That’s what extensions are for.

Think about how Google makes their money and you’ll realize why they’ll never do that.

Two hints: Google Ads and Youtube Ads

^^^ i was going to say the same thing…even tho google is mostly know for its search, and more recently within the last couple years…chrome, gmail, youtube ect., theirs adds are their most profitable division and they try to integrate them with all their apps in one way or another. just wait til next year, between apple and google, those mobile platforms are getting primed to forcefully rape you with adds.

It doesn’t. Its not in the API to allow blocking of elements in flash. Adblock for chrome will block regular ads, but it won’t block in-flash ads. its something that they need to change to make possible. go load up a justin.tv or livestream stream in Chrome, you’ll get ads.

Chromium (Chromes base) is an open source project. I know exactly how google makes their money, and I don’t think they did this as a fuck you to people who use adblock (otherwise regular google ads would be unblockable). Its just that they didn’t think about it.

So I had an epiphany tonight that was long needed.

I had been considering getting a Cthulhu to replace my Saulabi’s stock board. That’s not to say that the Saulabi board doesn’t do it’s job well, but the fact is that:

  1. The way I had to wire it with 203C buttons (The Korean ones with the PCB terminals), it’s more trouble than it’s worth to have to go back into the stick and resolder a loose connection between the PCB and the buttons. On top of that, the main reason I have troubles with the buttons coming loose is the awkward way I had to solder the buttons in, considering I had to lay the board somewhat flat. The board itself also pushes on the wires, causing some tension on the buttons as well. Just not a good wiring scenario.

  2. No Home button access on the board. I spend most of my time on my 360 anyway, and have the Guide wired for Start + Back on the Imp, but just in case I get assigned the wrong controller number on a PS3 at a later point, I would like to have the ability to go in and fix that.

  3. I just noticed I really like lists.

But I would like to run more than just PS3/360 on this stick, considering I play on other consoles, and this is now the stick I’m most comfortable on. However I ruled out going MC because I thought that doing so would cause too many problems opening up the stick, considering how the bottom is a lid-type deal, and the top is merely a plate with no place to house an RJ-45 adapter.

Then it finally hit me: I’d be using a neutrik. How could having a detachable RJ-45 cable running from the Neutrik to the Cthulhu/Imp cause problems with the lid? [/facepalm]

Having never done a MC Cthulhu + Imp installation, is there anything I should keep in mind while doing this? I have done a Cthulhu + Imp before, but with MC, I don’t want to screw up my ability to use multiple consoles by wiring it wrong.

Good ol’ Ritz has you covered, brother:

As for the Start + Select = Guide/Home issue, I recommend using a dedicated guide button. I know you already said you don’t have one, but just consider it a disclaimer.

edit: I took out some incorrect information. I got my wires crossed somewhere and got this confused with another job I did. Get it? Wires crossed? I’m so punny…

Adblock’s latest version has flash blocking in beta.

Not blocking ads for either livestream or justin.tv :[ I really wish it did, its a lot more responsive than firefox.
I largely suspect this push for youtube ad blocking to be in conjunction with the switch to HTML 5, but I would have to investigate more.

I guess that might cause a small problem. As in, there’s really no good place to put a dedicated Guide/Home button. The top plate is really busy, so there’s no place to put it that isn’t intrusive to the basic functions of the joystick, and to put it on the lid would present the problem of opening the stick that I wanted to avoid by not installing the MC in the first place.

Might just have to ask Toodles this what-if scenario. My theorem is that the Imp is the first board recognized, and not the Cthulhu. So, if the MC Cthulhu is set to first position, and Start + Select is held down when plugged in, the Imp will recognize that, not the Cthulhu, and run in Xbox 360 mode. Even if somehow the MC Cthulhu got tripped into Bootloader mode, the only signal that would be taken through the USB cable would be from the 360 PCB, so it would be a non-issue. Of course, to play on PS3 or my other consoles, I do nothing when plugged in, and it just works.

If that’s the case, I could merely plug a USB cable directly into the Cthulhu’s USB jack, then hold start+select to bypass the Imp and enter bootloader mode. But it’s just a matter of making sure that’s the case.

As for the Guide = Start + Select on the Imp, I already have that taken care of. Guide works perfectly fine on my xbox sans the dedicated button! Just no go for the PS3 since the Saulabi 4K neglected to add any functionality with the Home button. Makes no sense to me, but whatever.

Even if it would cause problems though, I just thought of another solution. The Start and Select points on the Imp only control the switch itself, and not the Start and Select functions. Essentially, it looks for a combination of two signals that when pressed simultaneously, Activate the switch when plugging in, and activate Guide/Home when already plugged in. So by all accounts, I could switch it from Start and Back being wired to them to R1 and R2 on the PS3 board, which are relatively unused at the right side of the button layout.

If I don’t bridge the area on the MC Cthulhu for Start + Select = Home, then that still poses no problem. R1 + R2/RB + RT would be home/guide for both system.s

Wait, nm. Ignore what I said earlier about shorting the unlabeled contact point. That was for something I did earlier where a guy wanted to just use the Select button as the system select switch, yet have S+S=G functionality.

This is what you need to do, as told to me by Toodles himself:

  • Wire the MC Cthulhu to be the primary
  • Wire the 360 guide to home on the Cthulhu
  • Wire home on the Cthulhu to guide on the Imp
  • Do not use a jumper wire from Home to Ground on the Cthulhu
  • Wire Start and Select on the Imp to their respective Start and Select on the Cthulhu

This will get you Start + Select = Guide for 360 and PS3, enable Start + Select as the system switch. And yes, you’re correct about plugging a USB cable into the Cthulhu when you want to use the PC bootloader.

Awesome. Glad to hear that I was also right in my assumptions. Think I need to put in an order for a Neutrik + another MC Cthulhu soon then!

Finally it came! Loving it so far.

Can… Not… Resist… That what she said… Gah!!!

Since I’ve been thinking about CvS2 today, I decided that I really really want to buy a Sega Dreamcast.

However, I want to get one that can play CD-R’s, and I’ve heard that Sega produced a model that removed that capability. When buying a Dreamcast from Ebay or something, is there any telltale sign that a Dreamcast has what I’m looking for?

I think the black one, Sports edition is the one that doesnt play CD-R, all the white ones are good
