Hey gummy I found a gun for a genesis… what can you do with that?

Guys, after months of struggle, I’ve finally mastered crimping USB and other cables that don’t have 8 wires into an RJ-45 head without the casing being all messed up and down an extra inch or so. I’m so proud of myself lol They’re coming out really clean now!

See, if you put leos in all your instruments you won’t need those hub/dongles…

In harmony with that, if I don’t see one cheaper than $30 I’ll probably shoot the funds to you to source one locally

Didn’t know the genesis had gun games.

I think I can make it shoot real bullets.

the usb hubs are for the dual strike smd + flash drive mod inside a retro controller…

!!??:wow:??!!

check my post last page with the snes controller with usb hub, dual strike smd, and 1G flash drive. I want to do the same for other controllers now. Thats why I want to source the hubs.

I know you said you found a source, but did you check DealExtreme? If you need cheap crap, DX is the place to be.

Can you imagine if the XBOX 360 didn’t have the BS security on their input devices or if 360 didn’t exsist?
At this point all you would need is a MC Cthulhu–>RJ-45…Hell I’ve been tempted to do it now but I mostly play on 360 and it’s annoying to constantly bust out the Xconverter–>Fightpad (not to mention messy).

Sad thing is, my cynical side says this is the last generation of consoles to not use MS style authentication. We’re going to have this same problem from here on out.

Yes, next gen is going to be even more impossible to crack, I fear. Things like Paewang and PS360? Good luck.

I’m inclined to agree. I don’t even believe it’s cynical. Sony likely sees USB as a threat after the last round of exploits. Are these recent boards including the MS security chip? I know you said you saw one on a converter.

Edit: 100 pages of TTTOL. Neat.

AFAIK they are all using legit xbox security chips, procurred from god knows where but still authentic ones, with the exception of Paewong/Datel/PS360 which use the RAW chip, and I’d bet money that the RAW chip is a drop in replacement for the security chip.

And just to think out loud, I’m a god damned moron. I think I was expecting a particular type of communication between main chip and security chip, when the type of communication it actually uses* (*unverified but likely) should have been obvious. I need to either clone myself, or get puppy tranquilizers. Either one would be a serious boon to my productivity.

This is almost a certainty in the future unfortunately. Shit like Jailbreaking will have effectively forced companies like Sony to use some sort of authentication to eliminate that possibility.

Of course though, that does mean that there will probably be more people working on cracking that authentication since it will be more necessary for homebrew stuff.

edit:
just read your above post, it happens. Just gotta step back for a minute sometimes

People are going to find exploits.
No USB exploit? Flash the disc drive firmware. Can’t flash the disc drive firmware? modchip.
As someone who legitimately has used an Xbox as a media center for quite some time, I would love it if companies would allow such open projects to exist on their platform, but I know that’s never going to happen. It would sure kill off any excuse for there to be such exploits for legitimate processes.

I had an idea and I’m throwing it out there to gauge how retarded or awesome the idea is.

I’m sick of wrenching off e/c-clips. I was trying to find a suitable shaft replacement for a stick I’m thinking of and every time I thought of a setup, I had to wrench off an e-clip. Nothing hard, just tedious.

What if the e-clip was replaced by a clamp? I was thinking of something like a circular clothespin that would just grab the notch at the end where the e-clip would go. Make the pin spring hard enough and it shouldn’t move at all. Also, this would allow you to remove the joystick without any tools. On quick open sticks, you could remove them quickly and not have to worry about your joystick moved around.

Good or bad idea?

EDIT: Yay, made it to the 100th page!
