Pretty much every SF game (for casual play ofcourse).
KOF MI imo…
A couple I have are
Daraku Tenshi- The Fallen Angel
Project Justice
Tech Romancer
Not only do these games have very unique and interesitng visuals, but the fighting is fun, simple, and easy to pick up
Akatsuki Blitzkampf.
It’s hella dead, though.
I was actually coming to this thread to post the exact same thing. Failing that, Soulcalibur II is a really fun fighter with cute little extras like the weapon collection.
I thought Destrega was a very easy game to pick up and play… the mechanics of it weren’t complicated so you stood a chance even if it was the first time playing it.
However much I love this series, I’m going to have to say no. You have to learn a bunch of mash strings to do well.
This is true.
3s, RB2, Garou and CvS2 are great starters while still having a learning curve. What I started on at least.
Garou and Last Blade 2. I tried both randomly and enjoyed and enjoyed them.
Breakers Revenge and Akatsuki Bltizkampf both come to mind when I think of an easy game to get into and get to a point where you feel like you know how the game works. The opposite would be VF5.
Samurai Shodown 1 & 2
First time I played Alpha 3 I was hooked.
Good point Real Bout 2 then, I be reppin’ Xiangfei all day…
and Rival Schools I guess…
We heard you the first time.
I do agree though, of all the fighting games I own (and my selection’s not half bad) non gamers always like SamSho best (usually play IV). I think they like the colourful characters, easy to pick up controls, bad english and people getting chopped in half.

this game only has 5 buttons. High attack, mid attack, low attack, jump, guard. Its very intuitive @ first pick up. If you need to go mid, use the mid button etc… 8way run\walk. Best throw system ever in any fighting game period. The game was designed so any player can pick it up and start playing but the engine allows very deep exploration with combo’s and mobility options.
The game can be found on the internet and if you enjoy 3d games, this is one of the best that has gotten very little play. This game was only released in japan but there is a fan translation on the net in english.
Squaresoft really nailed it with Tobal 2. The graphics, the gameplay, the quest mode that allowed you to play as every enemy you capture in that mode, bringing the roster up to over 100 playable fighters. Tobal 2 was much ahead of its time.
Bushido Blade 1 and 2
I have access to the game on pc\psx now and I recently got up with a friend to play. Now, he’s not the best fighting game player EVER, he’s pretty mashy but he picked up the game and instantly figured it out. He was performing combo’s and teching throws w\in minutes. There was even a part in a our set where he started copying some of my movement options and used them against me.
For a beginner to do that, its a testament to the games design. Very easy for a new comer to pick it up but if a veteran sat in training mode for a bit, he\she would easily see that the game has more to the eye.
This game is rather easy to get a hold of through the internet and if you have a ps2, try it out. I guarantee you if you’re a fan of 3d games, you will not be disappointed. Even the casual 2d player may like it. It really is one of the best games I’ve ever played and I’ve pretty much tried them all @ this point.
