Ignoring Tier Lists, you didn’t look up the game online, you didn’t visit Gamefaqs or some other site to learn the moves, you just picked up this game and really got into it. You start it up, you’re all ready impressed by the visuals, and you pick a cool character and start screwing around and start enjoying the hell out of your self. What are some of those fighters you’ve discovered?
Right off the bat; it was Garou and Last Blade 2. I played Garou for less than an hour or so at a time when I wasn’t into fighters, and couldn’t get into it. I read another review of it, and just went for it. Best decision I’ve ever made. Last Blade 2 had the same effect when; I was really in awe of the stages (particularly the one that was on fire).
Recently, I had the pleasure of discovering Kizuna Encounter. It sat on my Mame list undisturbed for a long time while I tried to perfect my self at KOF 98 and Street Fighter 3. I decided to try it out for the hell of it. I really dig on it. The combos are simple and are quite a spectacle. The characters are varied. The weapon-based fighting appeals to me. Plus I really dig the tactical nature of the Tag System; and I’ll go one step further and say if there is a Marvel VS Capcom 3, it should mimic Kizuna Encounter’s Tag System. Great game.
I was goint to troll with DOA, but you meant pick and play as in fun at first sight.
Then I really like Last Blade 2 even if I couldn’t even fireball the time I played it and Waku Waku 7 was my first experience with “cute” fighters that weren’t Capcom related.
Honestly, DOA looks fun and is easy to pick up and play. It’s more about when you get to the intermediate to high level play that the game starts to take it’s nose dive into hell.
On topic, I’d have to say the King of Fighters series for me back in like 99’. I had never played the games, and I remember playing KOF 97’ for the first time and my mind was blown.
Soul Calibur 2. I beat the game the first time I played and then proceeded to whup my bro and his friends (who were Smash players, but still, they played a lot of SC as well.) It’s a fun game that you can just pick up and do well at if you pick the right character.
I will have to say Fighters History Dynamtie/Karnov’s Revenge was pretty simple overall to pick up. It’s pretty much ST on crack. Even Breakers Revenge I would say is about the same as far as learning things quick.
