Best pick up and play fighters

For me, it was SF2WW, to some extent Fatal Fury Special, definitely DOA 2 HC, the first two Alpha’s and Tekken 6. Being a previously casual Tekken player I’m finding the game not difficult to pick up, I main Asuka, but as time goes on I’d like to use more intermediate fighters like Bryan. I don’t even go near Eddy or Christie, LOL.

Tobal!? OMG that game is hot fire. <3

By the same token, I don’t think I can include the RS/PJ games under the thread title’s category either. Sure, new guys are bound to get some specials and mash team-ups, but I think knowing throws/throw techs and the chains/air combos in the games are essential.

I do like the series a lot.

Samurai Shodown 4 may have the easy basic controls (3 slash buttons 1 kick buttons) but its combo system can take years to master, so basically newbie can pick up & play it in single player only, since he will be devastated online for sure. This is not quite the case of SS1 and 2 because there newbie has access to most of attack options right from beginning, and his survival only depends on tactics he chooses.

Akatsuki Blitzkampf, super easy to play, hard to master.

I have put my money in the Soul Calibur pot. People who couldn’t care any less about fighting games will play SC. I think it’s the pretty backgrounds which draws them in.

Power Stone 2…nuff said :arazz::arazz:

Jackie Chan Fists in Fire 2

Easiest game to pick up and play.

SF III 3rd strike never saw any commercial or anything like a hype for it here in europe but when i got it on my dreamcast i was stuned how good the game is.

While it may not be considered a true fighter, the Fight Night series (with the exception of LOL Parry and Haymaker all day Round 2), was fairly pick up and play. Don’t know crap about boxing? Pick The GOAT and screw around with the analog sticks, maybe block once in a while, and you’ll do fine.
There were subtleties that catered to higher level play (especially in Round 4), but were far from necesary if you just got into the game and wanted to have a slugfest.

Assuming that you guys don’t count Fight Night, I’ll cast my vote for MK (1-3), I loved that game way back when, MK was the first fighter I ever played as a kid, couldn’t have been more than 4 at the time. I still remember how sweet it was when I threw my first spear, but now I’m just getting nostalgic…

Mortal Kombat…

The later made 3d ones especially - That’s why they’re such a big hit with the kids (minus the ESRB rating)

Real Bout 2 is a definite pick up and play game.

Pretty easy to so most stuff in the game.

Guilty Gear is also a great pick up and play game to noobs because it appears as if it is really easy to do combos as first. Only when you play the game for real does it become apparant how hard the game can be.

Breakers Revenge 2.

I’d go along with that. The 2D stuff always comes across to the most casual gamers as being real technical stuff.

When I was in uni (going back a long-ass time now) Someone on my floor had a PS2. I had been out of the loop gaming-wise since the demise of the Dreamcast. I still had my PS1 and some games. I went home one weekend and brought my copy of SF Alpha 3 with me. And proceeded to humble everyone. Not because I’m good, but because they just didn’t play. Some of them even thought the series stopped with Super Street Fighter II, no idea at that point, Capcom was still doing a few 2D fighters (Wales is such a backwards country at times, and I say that as a Welshman). none of them knew much beyond a hundred hand slap (and similar “bash one button repeatedly” moves) anyway. After a while, they decided to go back to Tekken Tag Tournament, and I left with my ego boosted.

I would definitely say, in terms of picking up the basics, 3D fighting games like Tekken are far easier to pickup. That’s not to say the advanced shit comes any easier, but it takes less practice to get to a certain level.

Actually its just Breakers Revenge. Breakers was the first game. B. Revenge was number two or Breakers 2 if you want to call it that.

Samsho 2 or Special.

There are many figthers I could mention that are pick up and play. Though some are already mentioned. Here are some I know off hand. Samurai Shodown series in general is about landing solid hard hits. SSVSpecial is just great all round.

Garou for its JD system, etc.

For 3D fighters, Soul Calibur

Cool, you played Inuyasha Feudal Fairy Tale? I’ve been wanting to check out this Dimps made fighting game for a while. A sequal was made, but was based on Shaman King (and only in Japan).

I agree with Bushido Blade, as for PF, yeah it is FTMP. Psychic Force in general is a great fighting game though. Love playing PF2012 on the DC.

Destrega is awesome, it really is an easy game to get into. Me, CJ81, and some other friends agreed that this game (and some others like PF) is great for gamers that love Shmups. LOL

Hell yeah, Power Stone (both games) are great to play on the spot!
