- It is true that the more recent Tekken has been taken better care than the neglected VF5. Also VF had trouble turning popular outside Japan, to the point that Sega had to put aside Eternal Champions so as to promote that game. VF needs an update desperately and also good online code. Sega unfortunately are dissapointing in the online play department. While in gameplay those games may be tight, in the rest Tekken and DOA far surpass VF. But even during the arcade days, DOA and Tekken were more popular than VF. Each game has a dedicated fanbase.
-Regarding anime fighters, the irony is that just like shmups (eg Touhou) they thrive not on consoles or arcades, but on PC. Blazblue and Guilty Gear are just the exception to the rule. The online play there is also much better than the console version. Eg Guilty Gear Reload for PC is much better than Guilty Gear R for online. Because as has been proven with Skullgirls, online play requires constant tweaks, something consoles are too slow or expensive to adapt to. this might change with the new consoles, but I dont see many anime fighters and fighters in general making their way there. DRM there is even worse, adding also the subscriptions.
Fighters are even playable online on PC in console emulators with much better netplay than their console versions.
Eg you can play CvSNK 2 that way, but not on PSN, since it is only the offline version.
Shows really how far behind the approach of console publishers is.
a much smaller user base enjoys those games, sometimes for free if they dont own any copy, while the majority of console gamers are screwed over despite paying for the product.
