Beleza Elétrica: The Laura Thread

Well, I’m hyped for her! Mika or Laura, someone’s getting sat on either way!

Facesitter Fighter 5?

I don’t see color, only fireballs to downback.

Jax, Bruce Irvin , Christie Monteiro, Eddie Gordo from tekken, Zasamel from Soul Calibur, Vanessa from Virtua Fighter before they white washed her and made her like 7 shades lighter, Darius from Mortal Kombat, Kai from Mortal Kombat, Tanya from Mortal Kombat, Venom from Guilty Gear, Jade from Mortal Kombat…

You can go away now.

Why is it stupid non sense? We’re discussing the character…

If you don’t like what’s being talked about veer the topic somewhere else rather than whine because what’s being discussed is on topic but makes you uncomfortable…

Because it doesn’t matter. Most here don’t care to discuss a non-issue. That’s what Tumblr exist for.

Off topic I guess, but when you do art for a living, you’re pretty much expected to be able to do something like that within 8 hours MAX. Looking at it, I think this must of taken that person about 4. But seriously, Capcom really needs to hire someone else for their promo art. It’s quite cheap and lacking in a lot of areas.

This isn’t official art. This is from Genzoman.

Seriously. And I thought I had said some relevant things on page 3 which got flooded out by this borderline-offended side chat about Laura’s ethnicity. I can’t wait when she’s discovered to be of 0% Black ethnicity so anybody who gives a fuck about race will really feel the crush then.

Anybody who picks or likes a character because of race is RACIST.

And Brazil isn’t even the last chance to get more Black representation in the game. I think Balrog has a good chance of filling in the last spot on the SF2 side. Even if not, you can bet at least one of the color alts will darken Laura’s skintone. Or perhaps any of the characters, close to what happened with 3S where we had a black Urien and a black Hugo.

I know. I’m not the biggest genzoman fan either but the point I failed to convey is that Capcom’s current promo art is looking like half assed fanart, and other people are doing a better job at drawing their own characters.

Really like this character. Like her design(she’s basically just wearing a gi, that she has tied into a half-shirt). I love that she looks like a real martial artist.

It’s weird that there’s another Brazilian lightning user. Is there something in the water in Brazil that gives people lightning powers?

I’m not sad at all that Ono’s change to troll people into thinking it was Blanka got spoiled. I’m tired of that shit anyway. It’s the one aspect of Ono’s personality that I have no affection for.

Agreed. I’m not a huge fan of SF5’s character art so far.

Isn’t black. She’s Brazilian, like Laura and damn near the same skin tone.

Most Brazilian’s aren’t dark skinned, we’ve established this. Reminder that “mixed race” does not equate to dark-skinned.

Sit the fuck down. Just because I pick Asian characters doesn’t mean I hate other races.

If you pick them because they’re Asian, and it’s not just coincidental because you like the character’s style then you’re racist. I’m sorry if you can’t handle the truth. But no it doesn’t mean you hate other races. I didn’t say that.

A lack of racial diversity and negative stereotypes definitely matter in any form of media. I think its rather arrogant to say its a non issue just because you aren’t bothered by it.

Nonsense. There’s zero wrong with playing a character because you relate to them culturally or racially. People tend to favor what they relate to. That’s not racism. Its reality.

All black kids growing up used Eddie in Tekken because he resembled us, had hair like us and fought using what we interpreted to be dance moves. To venture outside of video games, black kids are all over the world flocked to the Black Panther comic books because they finally had a superhero who looked like them and served as positive reinforcement. Positive representation matters. Diversity matters. Maybe not to those whose race are well represented or to those lacking awareness of the impact these kind of things have socially and psychologically, but it does.

I highly suggest looking into the definition of what racism is before throwing the word around. Someone bringing up the realities of race issues does not make one racist.

I’m over this topic tbh so I’ll catch y’all later.

That’s called preference, not racism. Racism is the belief that a race is superior to another. You don’t have to be racist to pick a character because they’re the same race/culture as you are, you do it because you relate to them.

Can the people who don’t know what they’re talking about stop derailing the thread with bullshit now?

Birdie is not a representation of black people, he’s offensive towards black people. I refuse to even use that character.

This subject can be a thread all its own, so I’m not even going to get into it in Laura’s thread.

The dictionary disagrees with you.

One definition of racism:
2 : racial prejudice or discrimination

Some definitions of prejudice:
: a feeling of like or dislike for someone or something especially when it is not reasonable or logical
a (1) : preconceived judgment or opinion

Racism does not have to be a dislike for a race. Any preconceived opinion counts as prejudice. And any prejudice that applies to race can be defined as racism.

Also, if you have a preference for one particular race, that could also be interpreted as racism against every other race.

A preference based in race, is another way of saying racist. It has nothing to do with supremacy. But hey I didn’t start this race side-topic so it’s not up to me to stop it. I was fine with the point I made on page 3 about command throws being so accessible with a lot of characters that people aren’t going to use them out of fear.

People are just superficial by and large. Like the gameplay comes second to the aesthetic.

This doesn’t disagree with me at all.

Try again.

No, it’s not. That’s a characteristic of racism, not a defining factor. You can have that kind of preference without being racist.
