As in, whether or not a lack of racial diversity bothers Brazil doesn’t matter to me. I’m sure there was enough of a voice for their representation hence the creation of the character, but if there wasn’t, shrug, it matters to me hence I will bring it up.
Maybe it’s because I’m culturally unaware, but other than the obvious ones like Rufus, Fuerte, Deejay and T Hawk, what characters would you say were done distastefully?
And yeah I would say a starting roster without one black character when a huge chunk of the community is black would absolutely be unacceptable. We’ll see with the final two roster spots. Every ethnicity should have at least one rep. It isn’t that hard to do. The game is global now. The roster should reflect that.
True that. Bad response and I regre it. I’m sure Brazil will be very happy with her. I am too. Just saying that it would have been nice to see her black as she’s from the one country so far where a black character actually makes plenty of sense.
My favorite character is Gouki too.I actually thought he was black as a child lol.
Anyway, you don’t have to care about what I care about. Racial diversity is important to me and that’s why I brought it up. People can say they don’t care about color all they want when the race they’re come to accept as the standard are represented well. As I said, I doubt the reaction would be the same if every character was black. I think there would definitely be a discussion about a lack of diversity.
The fuck? Birdie is black. It makes complete sense that he comes from England. What the fuck is even your point? Can you stop being a shameless racist please.
Hmm, I wonder if they must sign a contract agreeing not to release the info until a certain time that Capcom desides. If it’s just based on good faith that they’ll keep it a secret, then there’s nothing Capcom can really do to stop leaks like this from occurring. If there actually is a contract however, then at least Capcom could sue the companies if they leaked the info before the contract’s specified date.
Anyways, ill let you guys get back to discussing gameplay and being hyped. I’m hyped too. Just hoping the starting roster has at least one unambiguously black representative that is tastefully done. With the entire representation of my people so far being a unintelligent thuggish buffoon obsessed with mine and materialism, , a posh brit with your blue contacts and permed hair, a white washed African girl, and dancing idiot who smiles while getting beat up, I should know better.
“50.7% of the population, now define themselves as black or mixed race, compared with 91 million or 47.7% who label themselves white.”
Wow, just WOW.
Black or Mixed Race, they’re adding two groups into one here. I’m actually Brazilian so I really know what I’m doing lol
Btw, I actually gave the 2010 statistics up there as well:
The only controversy is that many of us stay kinda confused when describing ourselves. I mean, I am pale as fuck, but I do have an indigenous remote descendant. But isn’t everybody like this? Ozzy Osbourne has even neanderthalensis genes inside him. There’s no such thing as 100% pure race.
But we don’t need to invent things that do not exist as well. I am white, the most big part of brazilians are relatively like me, believe you or not, and the other big part is like Laura. We’re in 2015 people, it’s time to people know that Brazil is not a jungle with native tribes and monkeys around everything, it was like this in 1500.
Dhalsim, Guile, Balrog, and Rashid. Basically, whatever characters make a point of representing any specific culture, they end up being a caricature. Whoever doesn’t is pretty neutral, despite having a canonical origin from a specific culture/location.
You don’t get to say things like that after saying you don’t care how Brazil feels about the Brazilian character lol. You sound like a hypocrite.
Understandably, too. I’d be pretty pissed if I had a chance to tease a would-be Blanka but ended up being a new character. Plus for us it’s just gonna make the wait til next reveal feel that much longer.
