Beginner match analysis / gameplay critique thread

Just got in from Bar Battles and about to collapse. I’ll reply tomorrow, I’ve been meaning to for a while.

I’m a noob and probably should’t be giving out too much advice. In fact, jugging by this video i’d say you’re better than me :\ but I actually have some advice for you.

-Use sweep less, it’s very unsafe (-14) and alot of characters can punish with ultra even at the tip.
-Most of the shotos cr.mk lowers there hurtboxes, so can you use it to duck under some moves like Viper’s burn kick (Last Evo Infiltration used Cr.md kick to duck under Adon’s jaguar kick.

-http://www.airryu.com/?page_id=284 This is Air’s guides, here he explains Ryu’s matchups. Good stuff, some of it can be applied to other characters.
-You can hit Guile out of his sweep before the second hit comes out. Punish with focus, neutral jump, Ultra etc.

I hope this was useful, they are better players here with better answers, I’m shore they have more to say.

*Edit

By the time I got to the guile match I already knew what was going to happen from watching the ryu matches. Your links are good and you are playing pretty good overall, but you are getting impatient. You jump forward at times that aren’t great or when things aren’t working out on the ground. Combos and setups are all part of your up close game, but you need to start working on getting into that space more intelligently. Even in that second round it was still clear that Guile had a good chance of winning if he could get you off of him and put some distance between the two of you.
My advice would be to find a good guile and play them as much as possible, so you are playing the matchup from experience and not just dealing with it on the fly. I’ve always felt that good guiles and sims are the best at making people play the game that they are supposed to be playing instead of the game that they want to play.

I warned the Ken troll/deleted the posts. Let me know if something like that happens again.

I don’t play MvC3 as much as I do SF4 or SF games, so I can only notice the very basic stuff, by virtue of the matchvids I’ve seen, and what little I know from watching my friends play. That being said…

Your Deadpool didn’t do much at all. You should have used his gun moves and grenade moves to zone a fair bit, but instead you tried to get close to the Magneto (bad move) and did unsafe stuff (random launcher wtf) that got him killed.

You were doing ok with Ammy at first, but after landing her HHHH combo, you backed off more than a little when Magneto got knocked into the corner. This allowed him to recover and make a comeback. Learn the right time for backing off, as well as the right time for sustaining pressure.

Actually, learn more of the fundamentals in general. You should know how to move around (probably the most important thing in a Marvel game), what your characters can really do, and how your three characters are supposed to gel together as a team.

Ease up on the spazzing and the high risk moves. Your opponent basically had his way with you in the end (e.g. Viper landing her super on your character with little to no difficulty).

Sent you a pm as well.

I’ve never been exactly an expert when it comes to fighting games, but until recently I’ve been able to maintain a solid 600 PP rating in ranked matches (not great but not the worst either). I took a fairly long break from fighters, and now that I’m trying to get back in I’ve been getting slaughtered in almost every single match I’ve been in. I know my execution is off and I’ve got some issues with knowing when to attack, but I can’t help but feel there’s something more fundamental going on if I can’t even beat people in the 100 PP range. Since I don’t have a way of capturing my screen (I don’t even really have a digital camera at the moment), would it be possible for someone to jump on Xbox Live and take a look at what I’m doing? My apologies if this isn’t the place to ask for this.

Edit: This is for SSFIV

buy a cheap capture card. it will help loads

Yep.

You’re playing online so you’re going to get hit by a lot of bullshit. You also need to YOLO it up online. You had plenty of opportunities to Bionic Arm or any of Sentinel’s random hypers. Of course it’s terrible advice as you get better, but sometimes you have to meet derp with more derp. Also the person you were playing doesn’t seem that bad. He does a lot of safe stuff which is why you are having trouble trying to punish his moves. You have to work on setups for that. It also seems like you’re missing the “flow” of the match. Like for example, normally fighting games are like chess. I do a move; you block, then you do a move. I block, then I do a move. But with Marvel, sometimes it’s- I do a move, you block. Then you block my assist, while I do another move. Then I do another move. THEN you can do your move. Figuring out when to do what attack is important for all fighting games, but especially Marvel since being wrong on that can lose you a character. You said “I can’t even practice” in the video, but learning all that IS practicing. You don’t have to hit the opponent to “practice.” That’s what training mode is for.

FT5 with DragonLord, A runback of the FT7 we had earlier. I played Gen. Comments and tips will be appreciated

This gameplay is almost a month old, I ran into trouble with recording and was short on time and then I was going to post on Friday when I remembered about evo (Congrats to Xian, I’m still a little salty that he put Sako into losers but he earned it for sure lol.).
Ok then here we go:

Since I was forced to watch these matches like 4 times I was able to see my own faults (Y R U MASHING, STOP MASHING, R U STUPED!!!) like jumping in with lk or doing srk on my opponent’s wake thinking that I have 2 bars for FADC into ultra…
But I’d like two point out that the first 2 matches we’re little laggy

Hey folks, this is a video of a few games I played on SF4 on pc, im a bit of a newbie to Street Fighter, ive only really been playing it properly a week or two, and im really learning basics, now i dont expect to ever be an expert, however is there any basic tips you could provide me based on the video. (Some bad losses in here so I do apologise in advance) - My Tag is Narthas (Ryu)

When’s Injustice? Is there any in this thread?

This thread is ass #kappa :P.

I’m going to need to jump start this thread after The Fall Classic, between that and Summer Jam and work I’ll be busy for the next month and a half at least. I want to get more people in here so that there is a a good response time for people posting videos.

AFAIK I replied to Gambe’s and ugo’s videos outside of thread because they posted their concerns elsewhere too.

I was going to post my video here and in the ryu thread but forgot. When I remembered I didn’t really want to just because. Now I’m like “Meh, the vid is pretty old…”, but that’s really dumb excuse so I’ll post it anyway.
I have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

At least the concept of getting people to post videos when looking for help is working, but the response time in here is still less than it should be.

How the hell is this off topic? I clearly posted a video? SMH people…

You can try asking in this big Injustice group on FB I frequent:

It’s kinda dead forum-wise if you’re not using testyourmight.com.

There’s a few pro players on that page too, and they’ve been okay when it comes to questions in my experience.
