Not a lot of 3s players in this section unfortunately. They’re more in their own 3s section, you could post in the video thread or general thread over there or make your own topic
The issue with that video is more about the lack of diversity than the quality, the quality actually isn’t an issue. You’re basically doing the same things over and over so its hard to get a sense of certain things (or it will lead people to think that you don’t know things that you may already know)
anyway
For the love of god stop with the air tatsus
You have to learn how to stand still, you’re just constantly doing thing. You don’t seem to be picking a spot, guarding a point trying to position yourself or your opponent you are just moving around a lot. Slow down and be more patient and dictate the flow o the match.
Learn all of your normals and pokes. Sakura has a number of good moves but you are using the saw ones especially c.mk over and over and over again. It makes you very predictable to counter.
Practice hit confirming off of c.mk because you are landing it and then giving up free damage afterwards by not continuing to combo.
Learn to combo off you light attacks. I may be off here, but your overusage of cr.forward directly into special at this stage is usually a sign of someone who has problems with the links needed to combo from their light attacks.
I don’t think you went for a crossup pr really any kind of pressure after a knockdown on your opponent your ar just letting him get up for free and giving away momentum. Focus attack isn’t really a great option after you knock someone down.
Hey, new guy to playing SF4, I play with friends mostly but I want to get better and actually beat people online for once.
Im having trouble on who I should Main, Cody or Yun, and from my understanding, they both woudlnt be good fit to be alts for each other? From what i understand, your alt should do what you main can’t.
I play on PC, and i use one of those PDP fight pads.
Id really appreciate any help of critique. And before you say anything, im practicing really hard to mix in dragon kicks and the flip grab with yun.
I just really get super nervous and flub up a lot online.
Your game from more than 1/3 screen away is almost non existent. Anywhere beyond that range and you just seem to be in a rush to get into that range. It is highly predictable going to cost you on better opponent than you had in that video. You need more patience and familiarity with what your characters can do outside of that range instead of just rushing to get in all the time.
You have to get better punishes, You are punishing point blank whiffed dragon punches with a few crouching jabs. Not only are you losing damage, but when you are playing against someone and you leave youself wide open and all they punish you with is a few jabs, it is a huge psychological boost, because someone who punishes that weakly is not someone peopleworry about losing to. Don’t be that guy.
BLOCK. you are getting hit with way to many full screen fireballs and half screen huricane kicks.
You are playing your game and your opponent is playing their game and neither of you seems to be dictating gameplay or adjusting to the other. You actions come off as too random to instill fear in an action. For example the already mentioned hurricane kicks and whiffed shoryukens, You opponent is doing some really predictable hurricane kicks, If you see that pattern and just block and punish consistently you send the message that “hey, that won’t work on me either stop doing them or you will lose.” At that point they either 1) continue using it and and lose, 2)panic at the loss of a tool and leave opening as they try to figure out what to do, or 3) they adjust. In truth at high level play most players go with option 4) which is not doing the unsafe thing that will get you blown up in the first place. but at beginner levels its mostly 1, 2 and 3; and alot more 1 and 2 than 3 at those levels.
You do need better combos but what you could use more than that is more patience and better understanding of your character’s normals.
Strategies for picking a secondary is a fairly high level thing, honestly just play who you like and don’t worry about it at this point.
What should i be doing when im not close to the other player? My friend told me to build meter but I can’t think of how to do that. He said use Palms but the recovery time on it is so slow and it feels like anyone could just run in and punish.
I have a bad habit of trying to land super usually costing me a round or the whole match.
Also, yeah I really can tell from watching myself i need to capitalize on punishes more, and work on more target combos with Yun.
Boah man, was quite raging when seeing this :D. You played quite solid, but WHY, WHY the bad habbit with the shoryuken shit on nearly every wakeup, and you whiffed all the time. Just stop that, its bullshit. You have a view options here:
just block
Focks absorb back dash.
practice these, your pp will explode.
Ah yeah, and punish harder.
So I finally decided to actually get goot at SFIV, had the game for like 2 years now and I basically only ever played single player, messing around on training every now and then but nothing out of the ordinary. Needless to say, I’m getting my ass handed to me so much it’s not even funny (if it helps, been playing for a week, around 4 hours per day).
I main Sakura, I know she’s one of the least noob friendly characters but I can’t seem to enjoy any others, Juri is a close second. Here’s a match I did yesterday, prepare yourselves, it is painful.
Managed to win the first round (I don’t even know how) but then I threw the match away, I feel like I overextended a lot. Also when playing, I have absolutely no clue what I’m doing, I try punishing the opponent or trying to land one or two hits and slowly kill the guy. I also have trouble knowing how and when to throw somebody, infact, I never do it because I can’t find a good moment, I end up getting punched in the face if I get close.
Basically, every single match ends up with me getting badly beat up, if I’m lucky I’ll get somebody with the same skill level as me, but sadly my matches are against c, c+, b and even a couple of b+ players, I don’t feel like I learn anything from getting perfect’d 3 times in a row.
Where should I even start? I have been mostly practicing simple combos, cancelling moves and so on but I cannot even land them while on online matches, there is surely something (a lot) of things wrong in the way I play.
Charged fireball isn’t a good idea from far away (and if it’s not a setup on a knocked down) opponent. Stick to regular fireball from afar.
Be careful when (over)using s. hk as a poke, the opponent will catch on and punish eventually. Make use of all your buttons, not just the heavy attacks. Also study your tatsu (spinny kick) and running shoryuken, there are unsafe versions and ways/spacings to make them safe.
You also need to learn her reliable pokes and combos. Sakura is like 90% offense, that’s where she shines. Playing her Ryu-style in SF4 won’t get you far.
On the whole I think you would also benefit from the Sakura advice that was posted earlier in the thread. From here onwards:
To land Ultra 1, you usually need to dash forward once after the EX tatsu. For starters, I recommend Ultra 2, it’s not as tricky as U1, and you don’t have to dash to combo it after an EX tatsu.
Whoopsie, can’t beleive I missed all the sakura talk that was going on right above my post I’ll check everything out, thanks!
I noticed aswell that I was playing Sakura as if it was Ryu, I tried being a little more aggressive and the results appeared almost instantly, I’m starting to win more often, feels good :).
Whats up everybody, I will be having my first offline session for SSF4 AE in a few hours. I am scared but also excited (I am an NRS player so I have some fg experience). I will be uploading some videos tomorrow.
Some more videos. I’m really looking for player tips/analysis, but I’ll take everything. I know I have some bad habits, but I’m trying to work on them. Thanks for all the replies.
On the Cody vs Guile match, I honestly don’t know what to do against him. I got steam-rolled, but I felt it might be good to post since he’s a character that gives me a lot of trouble as Cody.
Ease up with the flowchart. Use your normal moves, and learn to do some combo’s. Fortunately for you, the Dudley was kinda spamming DP and randomly doing Ultra. It’s good that you know about blocking and punish as shown in Round 2.
Ken, like Sakura, likes to go on offense. The turtle style (especially if you throw out unsafe shoryukens in response) is not the ideal way to play him. Definitely make use of his other normals and moves. Tatsu/EX Tatsu is pretty good.
For example:
Regrettably this is a loss because the Dudley is pretty good, but this gives you an idea of an active/moving around Ken:
You really are not playing Street Fighter yet you are just doing shoryukens. Don’t take this too hard, but you should be losing to pretty much everyone you face playing like that. That win was more of a display of how bad that dudley was since all he needed to do to beat you was block and punish your recovery.
With that said my advice would be what 4neqs did. You need to watch more high level Ken matches, as of right now you don’t really seem like you know what Ken plays like or is capable of outside of shoryuken.
Here is the link to the video thread in the Ken forum, take a look through some matches and get feel for Ken’s normals and playstyle.
also stop mashing shoryuken whenever you are in blockstun, any good player would just block after attacking you so that the shoryuken come out and then punish you afterwards.
Are you talking about the very noticeable skill difference between the two videos? It’s highly implausible, but not impossible. In any other thread I’d probably call foul, but here I’ll take it as legit.
Come on guys, this is obviously a troll/done for a laugh. Nobody goes from flow-charting it (a bit too obvious, that in itself was a troll - not even a noob does just shoryukens ALL the time and consistently) to watching videos of Fuudo all night and picking up Fei Long, let alone any other character just like that.
He has been playing SSF4 since April 10th 2013 - recent yes, but in the space of 9 days has already managed to rack up 100 wins. Highly unlikely for a genuine newbie. Oh and did I mention that he has been playing Street Fighter 4 since February 2011?
You’ve had your laugh, now please move along and leave this thread for people who may not be very good, but genuinely want help to improve their game, say someone like me, lol.
Dog, how is someone supposed to go from-
Actually, now that look at the upload dates, it’s been more than a month since the first video was uploaded and the second one was uploaded yesterday, so I think that this COULD be legit (Unless that’s what he wants us to think!!!).
I mean there’s a big skill differences but it’s that good. He still made mistakes and execution errors. The first post could be a troll post and the second could be his real gameplay. They’re more possibilities than I’m willing to type but yeah.
Edit: But then again skill differences is a little too big for a month :\
Anyway, I seem to have a trend going when I play. I do bad/decent in ranked, decent/good in endless and good/great offline… except in tournaments. I tend to fall to the stress. It’s not so much playing in person, but with such large groups of random people, it’s likely more of an anxiety issue. I know that I have some bad habits, but I feel like I really need to work on myself as a player. I seem to spend most of my time working on execution and setups, I don’t have much real world/in action experience… and randoms online don’t help much. I’m also down to play some endless if anyone wants to analyze me there.
