I bought the US version, then a japanese controller and burned all the games. It’s not so expensive that way.
For anyone learning the game, make sure your playing style is not a hindrance to your future advancement. I didn’t really pay attention and suddenly I was up to 10s and 11s before I realized that I played two keys with a single finger, and changing your playing style after all that time and muscle memorization is extremely hard.

does anybody know what you have to do to earn the ability to create custom expert courses in empress? if its available in the beginning, where is it?
You can do it from the beginning. In Troopers and Empress you have to do it a different way from how it use to be. When you select expert mode, go to a custom course. Bring up the songs by pressing select (?) it will be 3y3s x5. Press and hold select, you can then change the songs and the name of the course.
This is probably a dumb question…but would the PS3 be able to play japanese discs? Just wondering…

Beats, just get a swap-disc and a PS2 fat. All you have to do is pop the case off. No skills required, just a screw-driver. Its how I’ve been running it.

Doubles is really fun after you start to get over the learning curve. It’s so frustrating at first but get’s really exciting when you start clearing 8s and 9s.
yeah, from the bit I played it was quite fun. and I like doubles in step games a lot too. and I generally played 1 handed.
but I don’t know how I’m going to get another (my 3rd) BM US controller so that it matches. bah. I’m pretty pissed I didn’t get it back >:O
