boy rubys voice is pretty bad… and that art man… its choppy as fuck. Deff looking like a mugen game for sure. Hell its almost giving me capcom fighting jam levels of how out of place it looked. Ill say it again with the way this looks and how choppy that animation was, no reason they cant put in GG characters and scale them up like they did guile, morrigan sprites etc for cvs2.
RWBY is a guilty pleasure of mine watching a (dead) dudes passion project but at the same time the rest of the shit behind it is ass or cringe.
The sprite would be less jarring to look at if she was up against UNIEL characters but yeah. It could improved more.
This video is very interesting. Lots of stuff to dissect there.
First, Ruby looks pretty good. Problem is, we’ll get to hear a lot out of her if she’s high tier and I’m not sure how to deal with her voice.
Second, Ruby/Gordeau teams are going to be hard to deal with. Stubby button characters like Akatsuki and Naoto Kurogane might drop in tiers if this trend continues.
Hud looks nice. Not too sure about the quality of the rest or if this is a “20% Build”, but Arc Sys (Or was it Mori) said that sprites would have some adjustments to fit the visual thing of the game. Don’t know if this is in effect or even possible. The characters are way too different art-style wise. Can’t see it happening.
We got Overdrives Resonances. Sounds like a comeback mechanic.
Happy birthdays confirmed. Having an assist blocked sounds like a great way to getting rekt by a resonance comeback.
We got assists on deck. Multiple per character too. In the same match.
But of course, the most important is… Hype Dog is Back!!! (Where’s the footage tho?)
I actually always thought Jam’s voice was kind of amusing with the constant "Wooohooo!"s.
That being said, people shitting on Ruby’s voice is kind of irritating since I mean, it’s not like Rooster Teeth is an anime company, so most of the RWBY cast has either RWBY or RvB as their first role. It’s not like they’ve been in a ton of different things like I dunno, Troy Baker or Cherami Leigh or something, so being extra harsh on them for not having as much experience seems a bit odd to me.
Abridge series like DBZ, Hellsing and Yugioh puts the voice acting in RWBY to shame.
Though I will say characters like Weiss and Pyrrha have better voices out of the show. Just Ruby never really had great voice acting. Your lying if you say she does.
From season Chapter 1 to now, yeah she’s improved. But its still bad, imo.
Is the Yugioh Abridged thing still just the one guy doing all the voices?
And I was never going to go into watching an initial side project with a small crew and expect everybody in it to have had the same amount of experience and polish to make it have super top tier Voice Acting without previous chances to develop it. You don’t throw someone into the NHL and then trash them for not being better than Gretzky. That’s just having ridiculous expectations. You have to judge things comparatively and get that a bunch of them have been learning from scratch.
Granted, I will concede a bunch of the RWBY fanbase was hating on Ruby’s voice in Volume 4, but apparently none of them got that “having to change the voice around at times to compensate for being pregnant messing with the hormones” was actually a thing, lol.
So, what I’m getting from this is that I’m somehow 100 times more tolerant than most people, or I’ve been desensitized as a result of the 90s cartoons and stuff as a kid, and from the bad Saturn/PS1/90s PC CD gaming voice acting I encountered when I was younger, lmao.
I mean, I don’t find it super annoying either. I get why others do, especially projectile from the round start, and, if the option is availabe, I may end up switching her to the japanese voice (especially if it uses the MVC3 style character-by-character language selection), but it’s not a huge problem for me right now. Now, if Yukari gets in, THAT’ll be an issue.
The only P4A/Ultimax English voice stuff that ever bothered me was Aigis constantly screaming “My Armour!” whenever she got hit, but that was just because it happened so often since there was a limited amount of “taking damage quotes” more than anything.
Oh, I don’t mind Jam’s or Ruby’s voice. I was just pointing that Ruby isn’t the first character with an annoying VA, and TBH I didn’t noticed her voice in that match until people started complaining.
On the other hand, the possibility of Nanase’s theme being in really send a chill down my spine…
