If we’re in general agreement that Minato can make it in despite being a door, Shinjiro’s biggest obstacle would be the same as any other new fighter: would he be unique or iconic enough to justify new assets? Minato being the protagonist of his game, obviously is iconic enough, and one more variation on swordfighting can’t be that hard. Shinjiro, meanwhile, could make it in as a unique character, since he would be the only axe wielding character in the game. And Joker could be a clone of Hazama or Terumi, since he, as well, would be iconic enough to warrent a discussion. Of the three, I think Shinjiro is the least likely, especially since that unique, axe wielding gameplay would require making him from the ground up, whereas other new characters (primarily from rwby) mostly have a base to work from, lessening the overall workload by allowing those in charge of balancing to start from a base moveset, (If it weren’t for the Murakumo units, Penny wouldn’t stand a chance of getting in. But since they do, I’d peg her as merely unlikely), while giving the animation team a reference of what these character need to be doing. It doesn’t mean they can add such characters willy nilly, new assets are new assets, and the only clone I can think of that might not need any adjustments is Cinder as Yukari, since Isis doesn’t actually do anything but drop stationary Garu spells and Cinder has been shown to be incredibly resourceful with magic, but it does mean that if arcsys wants to lighten the load a bit by doing that, all new characters totally unlike the ones already in their previous games are less likely. But this is all conjecture, it’s possible Ruby is the only new fighter, and it’s possible we’ll get more new fighters than we can shake a stick at. For now, we wait for the 15th, and hope that the new reveal gives us a decent idea of what they’re willing to do for new characters.
Truth be told, I thought they’d do character reveals sort of like with mini trailers showing 1 from each franchise as they went along, or something along those lines.
The game is in really early stages of developement, what they show in the trailer was more like a pre-alpha build.
They already said that they need to redrawn the sprites of the other franchises to have an unified style with BB, for example.
Strange how Jin is being treated as a reveal when he was in the trailer. Also, it’s odd but for a game that’s supposed to have all 4 franchises, it’s weird we didn’t get say, a Weiss/Yang/Blake reveal alongside it them. Unless they’re like doing the RWBY sprites last or something.
Ah that, true. That would actually make sense then. They couldn’t show a new RWBY character for partner specific supers if we haven’t even gotten Ruby gameplay yet in the first place. I missed that they were specific.
So, I was reading the Tv tropes page for rhe game, because why not, it’s got funny jokes sometimes, and they claimed that running would be the default movement option, with walking removed entirely. It’s not my first instinct to trust an open wiki, but I haven’t been able to catch the livestream yet and won’t for a good bit. Is there any truth to this? I can think of a couple ways to get the same effect while keeping walking in (auto-run as a control option, keep it under stylish mode, pressure sensitive movement for pad players, etc.), and it seems like throwing the baby out with bathwater if it’s true. I’m all for accessibility in fighting games, but I don’t think running is a huge barrier for any prospective players.
I don’t know if there’s any credibility to that statement but I mean it could theoretically work. The game would obviously have to be balanced for it but I don’t see why something like that shouldn’t ever be considered. Cecil from the ultra poverty fighter E’s Laf works like that, his walk is a super fast dash and his dash is a teleport. He’s kinda unwieldy at first but once you get used to it he’s scary as hell. If they were to go down that road I think it would be more to make the game hectic and crazy than it would be for accessibility. But that’s saying they are in fact doing that, which I really doubt.
I definitely won’t be trusting it until I see it with my own eyes, from Arc Sys themselves. I suppose it could make for more exciting gameplay, but I feel like it would present some obstacles in approaching. If there’s something like FD-braking, or if there’s no recovery on it then it’d probably be fine, but without those, I think it might hurt the game overall. But who knows. The game’s got quite a ways to go, with plenty of time for them find a way to make it work or change their mind if it’s true. Still hope not though. That aside, I wonder what’s on october 1st? Another character reveal seems like a safe guess, but I wonder if that’s it. Maybe some gameplay, if we’re lucky.
I’m surprised there was no RWBY character announced. Kinda makes one think that the roster won’t be evenly split between the four franchises.
I’m still hoping Teddie gets axed.
Speaking of Axes, Shinjiro could be in this game if Arc Sys and Atlus wanted him in. Terumi and Hakumen are as dead as disco post-CF, but at least one of them will be in the game, they’re too iconic to drop.
That leads to time/universe merging shenanigans. Shinjiro can just come from a timeline were he got comatose instead of dead.
Thing is, does he have the popularity and uniqueness to be pulled back? I don’t think so. We’re not even sure if the P3 Protag will show up, let alone Shinjiro.
1st Impact October, huh? Does this mean we’re getting a demo or a loketest already? Way too early. We only have 7 characters, this makes no sense.
Calling Noel, Mitsuru and Waldstein for the next non-RWBY reveals.
