Bayonetta demands Dante (DMC) to make her a sandwich. Patch fix available for PS3!

Thanks for the response, solidfox.

“Try your best not to get hit at all. Finish the stage as quickly as possible and keep combos fresh. Just like DMC, not much different in the points area.”

I’ve actually done all 5 verses of the demo (I don’t actually have the full game yet, though I wish) without taking damage, just not consecutively in a full run of it. Regarding time, I have considered that maybe going as fast as possible may not always be the best route. Of course you’re playing it dangerously when you play this way, but think about the time you’re allowing yourself to do extended combos. It seems like it can be a positive (or negative) trade off depending on the Verse. I’m thinking stay and play a little longer such that you get a better combo score, yet meet the time requirement for Pure Platinum too. Afterall, I’ve seen 10s of seconds difference in runs that still yielded a Pure Platinum in the area of Time.

  1. "Just keep combos fresh, don’t do the same move twice, unless you have to for the sake of the juggle or combo."
So, I guess that’s to say there’s some kind of point scaling in the system that looks at repetition?

  2. "Witch Time adds 1.0 multiplier to the score, so yes it’s advisable."
Of course, if you’ve already REACHED 9.9, then it is not helpful other than creating a safer environment, right? But I can see how doing it will help QUICKLY move your multiplier up to 9.9.

  3. "I usually do torture attacks to dying enemies."
That seems like a damn good point, brother. Thanks for the tip. I think I’ve sometimes done torture in thinking it would quickly lead to a boost in my multiplier. But with the point at #4 in mind, I may do as you do.

I’m keeping my Top 3 runs in Excel for each Chapter, verse by verse. The flat database is already set. Here’s my best most recent full run of the demo:

I’m no DMC vet (only played a little bit of the original, but enough to understand the bar it had raised for the genre), but I did complete Ninja Gaiden. In fact, I’d say Bayonetta is my first game of this kind SINCE Ninja Gaiden (Xbox)… not even NGB! But I think I’m going to be okay. I’m very interested in getting Pures. The question is will I feel positive about doing it on the hardest level, or will I settle merely for doing it in Normal…

If you want to get an idea of what you are doing wrong in the demo check out my play-though. I’ve posted this before so for people who have seen it just ignore this link.

I agree that spending time more on combos then finishing the level quickly. As long as you meet the minimum requirement for a platinum in time you should be fine.

Bayonetta is a harder than DMC4 IMO. It feels like it is just as hard as DMC3, maybe even harder. The maximum difficulty in the game is called non stop infinite climax. They actually remove Witch Time in this mode. The enemies are faster,do more damage, more health, new moves and have different attack patterns. So it will definitely be more rewarding for you. Especially since you come from a Ninja Gaiden background.

What makes Bayonetta more difficult than DMC is the fact that some enemies cannot get owned by air juggles because they air recover quickly. On later difficulties most enemies enter a metal Zangief type mode while attacking. So you cannot stop them from hitting you unless you hit them multiple times before hand. Bayonetta follows a string type system for combos. Almost all of her strings can be interrupted so she is never safe. That’s why the dodge is so important in the game. Now take all this and understand why the final difficulty is hard. With no Witch Time as a reward for dodging, the game becomes a nightmare.

You do have a lot of accessories and weapons to aid you but I’ll let you discover those.

That was a damn good run through the demo!

The only section I haven’t Pure Platinum’d is Verse 2, which is the PS3 demo’s Verse 1. The highest I’ve scored on that verse is Platinum, but it was not in a full run (more of a practice run). So I feel enouraged between my scores and seeing your run just now. I didn’t see much difference in how you and I play. I’d say there was less repetition in your comboing. I think the biggest area I need to improve is in mixing up the combos more, which I’ll need to go into the training area some more for. Everything else just comes down to focus. I’ll PP this demo before the end of the month for sure.

Again, thanks for the responses!

Holy shit. Nice vid solidfox.

What is the hardest default difficulty?

Yeah it seems to be an effective way to play in the demo. Honestly though once you play the game your style changes a lot. Just due to the weapons and accessories available. Seeing myself play over 2 months ago is kinda wild for me.

Thanks, I know a lot of SRKers will do just as well and even better. Just gotta wait for everyone to get their copies.

Very Easy>Easy>Medium>Hard>Non Stop Infinite Climax

EDIT: I apologize for not being able to record play-through’s of the game on other difficulties like I promised. I recently got the ASUS VH236H HD monitor (Lag Free monitors they used at Evo). My old Samsung LCD had bad TV lag so I sold it to a friend and purchased the ASUS online. Only problem is that the ASUS does not have component, which I need to record. All it has is DVI,HDMI & VGA. I guess it’s not much of an issue since many players are uploading vids as well. But just thought I’d let you guys know, if anything I’ll post screens of my progress.

Thanks for the tips. These will come in handy once I get it. I just pre-order my copy at gamestop and they gave me a poster collection that comes with 8 big posters. Looks nice. Can’t wait for 1/5/10.

Well, I was an inch away from doing it. Verse 3 denied me. I had Pure on every other verse, but made a mistake that dampened my spirit enough to, well, make some more mistakes! lol. The mistake? SOMEHOW an enemy got isolated down the hall. I got really panicky when I noticed that. To make a long story short, I tried to keep my chain alive with gun fire, but after killing him, it wasn’t long before the chain broke.

That run still represented some progress, as I finished with 4 Pures (a first) and 1 Gold. In a way, that was my best run. In terms of score, it was far from being my best.

My best for that would be this
Chapter Clear:
Used Item: No Item
Combo: 784,105
Time: 10:02.10
Damage: -500
Award: 8000
No Item: 5000
[PLATINUM]

which was 2 Pures, 2 Plats, and 1 Gold. I really ripped up Verses 1 & 2 like never before in that run. Verses 4 & 5 are pretty much “free” Pures always.

Question:
What’s the online Leaderboard like with this game?
Is it just Combo score for each verse or chapter, or are there more stats that are on display on the leaderboard (like trophies and awards on a verse basis)?

Where are you guys getting the full game? Every game store in my area is stating a Jan 5th release day.

Japanese import PS3 is fully in English

OKay, thanks. Guess I’m just going to have to wait. Just a little impatient.

The leaderboard has scores for individual levels and total play-through scores for TIME and COMBO. The leaderboards are already broken due to the Kilgore Combo Exploit. The exploit allows you to get 9.9 multiplier just by doing the combo twice or three times depending on the situation. I don’t think exploits are cheap but leaderboard wise they ruin competition. I knew this was going to happen because it’s hard to find any legit leaderboards in videogames. Fighting games have rage-quitters and action games get owned by exploits. DMC4’s leaderboard was broke as f*ck.

Anyway don’t pay attention to leaderboards that much for action games like DMC or Bayonetta because one exploit found=random dude getting 999999999 score.

I’m not really concerned about scores

but one of the things I hated about the DMC series was the backtracking.

Is this present in Bayonetta, or is more linear level progression like I’m imagining.

Bayonetta has close to no backtracking. The only time you would backtrack is if your looking for some secret bonus stages (Alfheim’s). The levels are pretty long and not in an artificial way. So in short yes, it’s linear level progression. DMC4 was hurt a lot by backtracking imo.

I think linear level progression is wonderful news actually. I wish that wasn’t seen as a negative in gaming today.

I’m really glad it’s like that instead of DMC’s “open world” symphony of the night castle exploration.

hype+

Backtracking in games like this is so excruciating. I just want to keep moving forward having fun. Not having to run back and forth to solve some stupid puzzle.

Anyone see any major differences between the US 360/PS3 versions?

Bayonetta is kinda short if you’re good(I beat it in 8 hours, six deaths, 3 were from gay ass QTEs, didn’t use any items), but its 8 hours of the “good stuff”. No padding, backtracking(unless you want to for bonus challenges, looking for extended life/magic), boring scripted scenes that lose their impact on the second go-around. Its a game you can run through in 3 hours with good use of Panther mode, but its something you will greatly enjoy each and every time.

Anyone started on hard mode? that shit is insane. I just finished normal and the very first stage of hard mode is a complete Nightmare. I thought the chickens were chumps but they’re actually scary now. :frowning:
