I have hours into the 360 version and I played the PS3 version on my friends HDTV last night and I thought it looked great and noticed almost no slow down so as far as I’m concerned demo wise, people are over reacting as usual.
I hear the NA ps3 demo performs better than the JP demo. If that’s true then it’s a good sign to say the least.
That’s what I heard as well which is why I felt like posting. It does indeed look good on PS3 so far.
I just got my PS3, and just downloaded the Bayonetta demo. I love this game. I never played any of the DMC games, so the style is relatively new to me, but I feel this is a game I will definately invest money in buying…
Been reading the thread for a while, just downloaded the demo last night. Am I the only one who can’t see anything that’s going on in this game?
It’s not because the graphics were bad or anything, there was just too much going on a one time for me. Felt like I was going to have a siezure or something. In addition, I fail to see how this game is somehow substanitally better than DMC3…
I think you’re just not used to this kind of action yet. I was watching a colleague play, and I noticed he couldn’t really see when to dodge, either.
And yeah, judging from the demo, I don’t think this game is nearly as good as DMC.
Bayonetta > DMC1 > DMC4 > DMC3 >>> DMC2
Yeah, no.
As always, SRK hypes the new thing, and like always, SRK will be wrong. This happens every time something with hype is on the horizon.
I’m not going to argue whether or not Bayonetta deserves the top spot yet, but why do you think DMC1 is superior to 3 and 4? I enjoyed 1 quite a bit, but the gameplay was a bit unrefined, the acting was lol-tastic, and the story was rather simplistic. Still a great game, but I find 3 and 4 far better.
I also maintain that 3 is better than 4, as it has better pacing and level design, a larger and more fun weapon set, a much better story, and a better soundtrack. Don’t get me wrong, the core engine in 4 is by far and away the best in the series, the addition of real time style swapping was well needed, and Nero is an absolute blast. When I want to sit down in Bloody Palace for a while, I play 4, no question. But as a whole experience, I enjoyed 3 more.
At least we can agree that 2 is a horrific pile of shit that needs to be forgotten, though. Probably the worst temporary downturn I can think of in a quality franchise.
i played the demo last night as well. i didn’t have a problem with too much going on. however, sometimes i can’t see when i’m being attacked, but i think the problem lies in the camera angle. Ninja Gaiden camera angles aren’t the best, but i found myself adjusting the camera more in this game. overall, it’s looks an okay game.
I don’t know sir. I loved all the DMC games. Well, not 2, but no one loves that red headed bastard child. And I even suffered through Ninja Gaiden. I might need glasses though. Law school has done me in…
Fixed. Devil May Cry 2 was an awful game. But Damnation is the single worst video game in the history of human existence.
I agree with this whole heartedly. While DMC 4 was a very good game, and the new character (even though I personally didn’t like him - sorry Nero, you’re not as cool as your father Vergil…) took the series in a new direction which kept it from getting stale…Devil May Cry 3 was not only the pinnacle of the the series, but one of the best games I’ve ever played. *(Not to kick off a side debate that doesn’t belong in the thread, but it definately makes my top 10 PS2 titles of all time list.) * The game actually had a story, was fun as hell, and fuck what you heard, Dante vs. Vergil in the rain is one of the best cutscenes in a video game in recent memory.
I’m not saying Bayonetta won’t be an improvement on the DMC formula, but I don’t see this to be some quantum leap forward. But like Sep said, this is typical SRK hype for something new…
And certainly does not make Dante look like Kurtis Stryker.
Launchpad McQuack, FTW.
DMC4 over DMC3? Put down whatever shit you’re smoking.
I actually think the Jester/Arkham reveal was the highlight of the game for me. Not necessarily because it was a huge surprise, but because the cinematography and and camera work were so well played. Definitely one of the most memorable gaming moments of the past decade.
Edit: And I was under the impression that Stryker was top tier in UMK3. I think calling Dante that was a compliment.
The combat system of 3 and 4 is definitely better, but on a whole, I still think DMC1 is on top. I much preferred the level design of the missions, the art direction, it didn’t have that shitty battle song from DMC3, and I love the feel of the game. I know thats hard to explain, but with DMC3 and 4, I felt like I running around trying to get to the next battle, by passing all the bullshit platform/puzzle stuff. Plus, I felt it had a better balance on the enemy design. I mean, yeah you can do all kind of crazy shit in DMC3, but they suck. Either the enemies just stand around like idiots, or they’re fucking chess pieces and stupid bird things.
No, its just flat out fucking better. I vastly prefer the level design, enemy design, combat system, boss fights, and music of Bayonetta to any of the DMC games.
And DMC3 is more or less equal to DMC4. They both have their collective flaws. For every Savior fight and super repetitive levels in DMC4, theres a tedious chess board or giant blob boss fight in DMC3 right there to balance the suckage between them.
Bayonetta isn’t perfect. I could do without that flying level, and it has a few too many QTEs. But on the whole I have a far more fun time with it then any DMC game.
DMC1 actually engages you in combat witch DMC3 neglects to do 90% of the time. zzzZZzzz. 4 is better about it but still not as good as DMC1 is.
Man someone else who understands!
I couldn’t even get into DMC3 or 4 and I loved the shit out of 1.
3 and 4 just felt really chorey compared to 1.
Man, they add in a bunch of QTE/misc other gameplay elements that can outright just kill you instantly -_- Add in that QTEs have to be timed perfectly, or else you fail them = lots of deaths for me per level.
Luckily, when you resume at a checkpoint after dying, you get your health back, otherwise there’s no way in hell I was going to beat that two headed dragon boss dude.
Ouch.
Yeah, on my first playthrough, its a bitch to have all Gold/Plats, didn’t fuck up on some random QTE and there goes your rank. Luckily, theres only like…half a dozen of these mothafuckas and you to look out for them on your next playthrough. Still, real dick move not giving niggas a warning.
I played the demo. Felt like DMC to me, but then im not really into the dmc games. I played the first one and could not get into any other DMC games after that. I’ll probably rent this game.
i agree with the dude who said its just plain better. Not even about hype just a matter of fact for me. Especially music wise. i prefer it over lame trying to make it sound hard like dmc 3. i like good rock so to me that sucked. i prefer a music style i’m not familiar with, and i dig the soundtrack. it fits well
