C’mon man not all are like that. I play on the 360 and i play in my squad all the time. We usually get the win and gold squad medals all the time.
I will be on later today in about two hours if anyone wants to join me. GGs to whoever goes by the name waczack. do you PC guys go on a vent to chat?
GGS Man it was fun sniping it up with yah haha ill be on later today for some more.
Yes we do. Be sure to get Xfire because 20 friends list cap is wack.
You mind if I give you an add? Would be good to get a few games in with some people who can play for objectives.
Sure man… my squad and I will be on tonight
About 1.5 years ago there was some site streaming a “competitive” TF2 match on xbox360, and the commentators got all excited when one of the soldiers rocketjumped…“wow that’s pro!”. Yes it evens out, but only because there’s no cross-platform-play (which is perfectly fine and sensible, just sayin’).
I think it’s got a lot to do with Battlefield’s roots. 1942, BF2, and 2142 were all on the PC. In fact, I don’t think they even made a BF game for console until the original Bad Company. Makes sense that the ‘good’ players are mostly on the PC.
Love my 12x zoom, get my marksman god shots.
The godawful Modern Combat
I play on 360 and can agree that most people are garbage. If I get a group of 5 or more of my friends in a game, we will wreck shop and have half of the other team rage quit. It really pisses me off when we have 11 guys and only 3 on the other team.
The only reason we are good is because I convinced some friends who I play left 4 dead with and know what basic teamwork is.

i’m not going to argue which is better, pc or console. The rub for me is that I can’t AFFORD a rig right now to play it. Not that I don’t have the money, but i’d rather do something else with it (like invest it). Now, when all three games - SCII/DiabloIII/BF:BCII - are out the same time, i’m going ALL OUT.
Was about to say. Being able to switch between infantry made it REALLY worthwhile…
edit GGs to Wackzac. I finally unlocked the M95 and boy was I having a blast with it. I was snipin dudes from the red building behind the 2nd set of M-COMs in the corner, ALL THE WAY to the 4th set of M-COMs, with headshots. I was getting ~270 points per kills, it was so f’in nice.
Realized that this post turned into a major rant when I got done typing but here goes…
There’s PC gamers, and there’s PC GAMERS!
You’ve got people who buy PCs from Dell or Best Buy and are part of the reason why The Sims have consistently been the top 10 selling PC games of the last decade. These people don’t know about drivers, PCI-E, DirectX, overclocking, or any of that. They are just casual gamers and buy games for their PC and hope it will work.
Then you got the enthusiasts. They are far outnumbered by the first casual group but they’re the ones buying parts and building PCs themselves. Despite their smaller numbers, they driver companies like Nvidia and ATI to constantly release more and more powerful products. They’re the ones that disable mouse acceleration via the registry and edit CFGs and INIs to get every advantage possible.
In my view, console gamers fall into the first category. To me, they are all casual. There’s no “hardcore-ness” to console gaming. Sorry, I only meant in console FPS gaming. How could I forgot what forum I’m on?
For console FPS, it’s a level playing field. You buy the hardware, you buy the game, and that’s it. Therefore, there isn’t any drive to find better. You just accept what you’re given.
There’s no helping you but your skill. Some might say thats as fair as it can get and I agree. I feel it would be better if you could use keyboard and mouse without input delay and acceleration, but developers clearly do not implement this due to the unfair playing field it would create. In fact, console games like MW2 have some form of auto aim on during multiplayer even with auto aim off. This is clearly an artificial boost to make the gameplayer faster and more enjoyable. Console gamers are vastly hindered by their game pads.
Because PC gamers can remove accel, and OC their mouse rates to low input delay and various other things, their ceiling of potential rises and you get people who perform at ridiculous levels. You get people who cry that it is unfair, but I feel it is their fault for not looking for better. Where does tweaking and optimizing start to get unfair? Am I being unfair because I dl’d the latest drivers to get stable/more frames per second?
Without the hardcore gamers looking for every advantage, you would not get players like 3D.Miller, dkt, fatality, SK Heaton, and tons of other pros I can’t remember. Their amazing frag videos would not be possible because they would’ve been hindered by their hardware. The incredible skill at the “pro” level of play has a direct trickle effect on the competitive community. These players are the innovators that generate strategies, videos and demos that the community absorbs with aplomb. This is why I’m an advocate of tweaking and optimizing because in the end, if I get owned, it was my own fault and no one elses. And don’t get me wrong, these same people would be top tier with a default PC setup, just as Justin Wong or Daigo are with whatever the are given.
The final blow against the competitive nature of console FPS is the demographic. You’ve got a lot of kids playing these games, and frankly, they are mostly bratty and immature. I know the console has got good players, but how far can you get when your competition sucks and cry cheater when you beat them. PC gaming will still be the center of competitive gaming, especially when you talk dollars.
In the end, it seems like PC gamers can play to win, while console games can only play to play.
If I could rep you I’d give you over 9,000!
Great post! I always felt as if, no offense to the console FPS players here, that PC is far superior to console.
Nice names you threw out there. Don’t forget fr0d. =]
I hate to knock on ShadowInfinity’s post, but I’m in the former category of a PC gamer–the one that buys pre-built machines from Dell, HP, and the like.
Casual gamers, like myself, can be better than your “hardcore” PC gamer. Eventually, we will be better than the “hardcore” PC gamer, and anyone who says otherwise is an idiot. I play Halo 3 because it’s THE BEST FPS ever made.
…who the fuck am I kidding? I was throwing shit down back in the days of UT and Q2. Hardcore gamer FO LIFE, YO!
P.S. I love the aspect of throwing down a third of the money into a PC I can call MINE and it still be 3x more powerful than cookie-cutter PCs…=D
edit Also, PC players–add me to your xfire: tzbigworm
I’ll always remember my years playing FPS on PC but it just got to the point where I couldn’t afford to spend money (or at least didn’t want to) on parts every year to keep up to date. I buy a console and it’ll average a 7-10 year lifespan hoping that it doesn’t break while out of warranty. Yes the learning curve is a whole lot easier on console, yes a good majority of players are garbage, yes you have to deal with the teens hitting puberty and taking out their nerd rage on you because you are better and daddys money won’t change that. But at the end of the day if I enjoy a game I honestly couldn’t care. I wouldn’t consider myself a casual gamer in any sense, I play far too many games and spend far too long doing so. I’ll always be a PC enthusiast at the end of the day but I transfer that enthusiasm to console gaming.
That said, anybody have a clue how well Bad Company 2 would run on my spec? I’ve got a 3.0Ghz Athlon X2, 4GB of RAM and a ATI 4850. OS is Windows 7 64 bit if it makes any difference.
been doing pc since return to castle wolfenstein rofl.
kinda significant to the topic: nvidia soft-launching their dx11 cards.
I waited 2 months for reviews on the gtx 470 only to find out that the 5850 is still better than it in BC2, and power consumption. damn you nvidia! my kill ratiooooo
I’ve been playing on the PC since Unreal Tournament 99 came out. The reason I hopped onto the Xbox bandwagon was because SF 4 was better on Xbox than PC and Infinity Ward took a shit on PC players with MW 2.
The final nail in the coffin for me to retire from PC gaming was that I lacked the cash to buy a new PC If I had the money to get a top of the line rig that would play BC2 at max fps then I would jump back to PC gaming faster then you can blink. I just love the competition in PC FPS games. The comp in Xbox BC 2 sucks so bad… I sometimes have to stop playing in rage because my team sucks so bad.
